Recent advances in allergic and immunologic disease research have been heartening and have led to better care for our patients. These advances make our mission statement, to fund research that leads to the prevention and cure of asthma and allergic diseases, more achievable than ever. Consequently, our efforts to support young investigators have taken on a greater urgency and contains hope for even better outcomes.

The AAAAI Foundations success over the past year is a testimony to our generous supporters. In 2017, we were able to support three Faculty Development Awards for the first time. Each of the awardees is an outstanding young investigator and our support is timely to their careers.

Our awards are a meaningful and effective investment. Since the first ERT Faculty Development Award was awarded in 1993, our award recipients have shown a

remarkable 1700% return on the initial support provided by the Foundation, generating an additional $54.25 million in funding from other sources. Funding for research in A/I at this moment is crucial, as advances can improve quality of life for our patients like never before. We are continually grateful to our membership and our partners in industry for their continued support of our mission.

2016 Benefit and Run/Walk Raise $247K for Research

Nearly 500 Foundation supporters gathered for the 2016 Benefit at the California Science Centers Samuel Oschin Endeavour Pavilion. Dinner was enjoyed underneath the massive Space Shuttle Endeavour. Drs. Rob Lemanske and Tom Fleisher presented a brief program announcing the 2016 Faculty Development Award recipients and unveiled the Foundations new video and GAIN Campaign.

More than 500 people helped Light Up the Night in Los Angeles by running and walking for allergy and asthma research. The Foundation was pleased to have Football Hall of Fame legend Eric Dickerson begin the event as Race Grand Marshal. Eric Dickerson is a grateful patient of AAAAI member Dr. Stuart Epstein.

CONGRATULATIONS TO REGION 5: MID-SOUTH, WINNER OF THE 2016

RSL CHALLENGE.

The seven regions of the RSLAAIS Assembly competed to win free CME for a 2017 course. Their efforts generated over $64K of the $316K raised for the GAIN Campaign in 2016.

GAIN CampaignThe AAAAI Foundation Council designated the Grow Allergy & Immunology Now (GAIN) Campaign as the Area of Greatest Need for 2016 and members more than doubled the amount contributed over last year. Every gift made in 2016, unless designated otherwise, was directed to this effort to fund a third Faculty Development Award for 2017.
