How to Avoid a Stinging Incident
For People, Pets, & Livestock
Arkansas State Plant Board
Bee Aware
How to avoid a stinging incident:
• Stay away from honeybee colonies,
• Have feral swarms and colonies removed from your yard or premises,
• Check work area when using machinery such as mowers, edgers, blowers, or other heavy equipment.
Bees collecting pollen or nectar are called “foraging bee”. When they are away from “home” they are
rarely defensive.
Bees do not attack unprovoked. But the will vigorously defend their home.
Pet and livestock safety
• Do not tie or confine pets near colonies no matter how tame they seem to be,
• Check barns and pen frequently for honeybee colonies,
• Keep dogs under control while hiking..
