Nursing Updates from the BON and DADSBON will discuss Scope of Practice, delegation, changes to Chapter 225, and update on the On-Call Pilot. DADS will discuss the role of the nurse in ICF, HCS and TXHMLVG services. Update on Managed CareOn September 1, 2014, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabili-ties (IDD) who are covered by Medicaid and reside in a community-based ICF-IID or receive services through a 1915© IDD waiver will begin receiving acute care services through a STAR+PLUS managed care health plan. This panel of HHSC staff and managed care plans will provide the most up-to-date information on the implementation, initiatives to address any issues that may have arisen, and will be available to answer any questions. Attendees will be asked questions prior to the meeting. Each managed care organization will also have a booth for more interactions.

Too Many Individuals with ID in Nursing Homes Over 4,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities and related conditions are stuck in nursing homes, and an additional 900 moving in per year. Many could reside successfully in the community with the right support. Hear about the sta-tus of the fight, led by Disability Rights, to address the rights of these individuals to move to less restrictive community-based residential settings, including HCS group homes and host homes.

Book Review: In My Father’s EyesJoin author Sheila Allee in a discussion of her book In My Father’s Eyes, which focuses on intellectual disabilities, an interest that sprang from a friendship with her Uncle Melrose, who had a profound intellectual disability and lived for 60 years in a state institution. Sheila met him for the first time in 1991 and shortly after was able to help him move to a group home in Georgetown, Texas.

Then they will ask you to put your business card in their prize bowl, and a winner will be drawn on Friday.
