• Utilize the GBA website – www.GreensboroBuilders.org
for a listing of licensed general contractors in the area

• Ask family, friends or coworkers for recommendations.
• Make sure the builder/remodeler has an active NC
General Contractors license, a permanent business
location and a good reputation with banks and suppliers.
• Find out how long they have been in the building
business. It usually takes three to five years to establish afinancially sound business.
• Check out the company's rating and if there have
been any complaints filed with the Better Business
Bureau. If so, ask for more details.• Make sure the builder/remodeler has sufficient
workers compensation and general liability insurance.
If not, you may be liable for any construction-relatedaccidents on your premises.
• Ask the builder/remodeler to provide you with names
of previous customers. If they won't, beware. If they do,ask the customers i f they would hi re thebuilder/remodeler again.
• Ask to see the builder/remodelers work, both
completed and in progress. Check for quality of
workmanship and materials. Taking advantage of theannual Tour of Remodeled Homes and Parade of Homesas these are great ways to see their workmanship firsthand.
• Do you feel you can easily communicate with the
builder/remodeler? Remember you will be in close contact with them throughout the construction processand afterward as you live in your new home.
• Make sure the builder/remodeler provides you with a
complete and clearly written contract.
• Be cautious of unusually low-priced bids. Keep inmind that less expensive does not necessarily mean better!

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: ADDITION / FULL BASEMENT / DECK UPGRADE
The homeowners needed more room for their growing family. In addition, they wanted to improve and update the entryfrom the garage, their laundry, the existing small pantry, and the existing deck. They also wanted to add another bath, astudy area for the kids, and more storage in the basement. We worked with a preliminary layout from the homeowner, andwere able to offer improvement suggestions through our interior designer and CAD services draftsman.
Although the original brick selection had been discontinued several years ago, Pine Hall Brick custom made 10,000 bricksespecially for this home. Other challenges included designing the basement with a stepped crawl space with the assistance of ourstructural engineer to avoid undermining existing footers on the rear foundation wall of the home, and installing new beams tosupport the existing second floor and roof where the first floor walls were removed to open to the new addition.
Thanks to our great homeowners, and our experienced team of subcontractors, suppliers, designers, and dedicatedcraftsmen, Piedmont Personal Builders has finished yet another beautiful project for another Piedmont Triad family.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: COMPLETE RENOVATION
Since we added new mahogany doors to the front exterior of the residence, we decided to build a small front porch toprotect the integrity of the wood. As you enter the front hall the floor is composed of new hardwood from the diningroom on the right, surrounding tiles which were used in the rear entry. All of the moldings in the dining room, livingroom and library are new as well. The dining and living rooms also have new bay windows.
The master suite was completely renovated. We increased the size of the bathroom by fifty percent which accommodateshis and her sinks and a vanity. The walk in shower is enhanced with multiple jets, changing light, music and steam. Thebuilt in seat is oversized for comfort and convenience. The Italian tiles lend elegance to the setting.
The size of the bedroom was increased by incorporating the former closet space into the room. The two brick exteriorwalls were sheet rocked and painted. Molding, paint, shutters and a ceiling fan were added.
A doorway was created into the adjacent bedroom and a his and her closet was made with wooden shelving, drawers, laundry hampers and plenty of space for hanging garments.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: VAULTED STUDIO / KITCHEN / BATH RENOVATION
To realize the dream of teaching baking and sewing classes, the homeowner re-purposed several spaces in her home. Thefocus was the existing one car garage - it became an airy, open vaulted space with a full kitchen and sewing studio. Thisnew space includes room for demonstration, exhibition of projects and a hands-on work area for her students, as well as ahalf bath with custom fixtures. The beautiful new side entrance into the teaching space emphasizes the dual purpose of thehome. The existing family-style kitchen was given a new work pattern and more floor space by moving the range to a sidewall. The oven and microwave were carved into the wall next to the refrigerator, in a space that used to be a bathroom.
The renovated master bath now offers a large grout-free shower with a seating ledge, a private toilet and readily accessibletoiletry storage. The closet was also enlarged and reconfigured for better organization.
The existing carport became a two car garage. All of the items from the original garage are now housed in the “little housein the woods,” which sits beautifully in the backyard’s mature landscaping.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: KITCHEN / HOME OFFICE / DECK
The owners of this Starmount golf course home wanted to expand and brighten the existing kitchen, create a functionalhome office space, and find a lower maintenance and more visually pleasing alternative to the old wood deck on the back ofthe house. The kitchen was gutted and windows and French doors were added to let in more light. White painted maplecabinets were used in place of the former dark oak cabinets. White quartz countertops and a natural marble backsplashwere added to lighten the kitchen further. A large walnut butcher block island counter that matches the French doors wasincorporated to warm the space. A large brick and flagstone raised patio was added in place of the wood deck andoverlooks the fairway. Custom wrought iron railing finishes the look.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: KITCHEN
This kitchen remodel began many years ago as nothing more than a dream. A dream of one day turning a cozy, warm andyet outdated kitchen into a modern, classical masterpiece. We began this remodel with a complete demolition of theexisting 1970’s style kitchen. By starting with a clean slate, we were able to remove the existing aluminum wiring andincrease the homes energy efficiency by adding additional insulation in the walls and ceiling. Our mission for this projectwas to exceed our owner’s expectations and we accomplished just that, with a collaborative effort from our subcontractorsand skilled carpenters. We installed solid wood cabinetry in linen and chestnut finishes with hand washed mocha glazing, exquisite solarius granite countertops, modern Kitchenaid stainless steel appliances, custom made tile backsplashmedallion, 3’ wide custom finished hardwood flooring, open concept inspired extra large arched entry ways and customcarpentry that you really “must see to believe”.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: KITCHEN / SUNROOM / DEN
The owners of this beautiful home inherited a dated kitchen with white thermafoil cabinets and white ceramic tile. Thesunroom addition off the kitchen was rarely used…it still very closely resembled an old outdoor porch prior to itsmakeover. Our goal was to update the kitchen with cherry cabinets, granite countertops, and a marble tile backsplash andopen the space up to the adjacent den area that was converted to a media center. The kitchen also boasts stainlessappliances with two dishwashers that handle cleanup duties when entertaining. The old sunroom was gutted and broughtup to date by removing wooden posts and making the ceiling all one height. Stone was added to the fireplace tocompliment the spa theme and a floating, rubber backed gym floor was added for aerobic workouts. The space is now aluxurious home gym that functions as good as it looks.
