    Basic Setup Your new Martin bow takes little setup to get started shooting. Please read and

    familiarize yourself with these starting procedures before shooting. Many of these

    procedures may have been completed by your authorized Martin dealer. After

    completingthesesimplesteps,youwillbemoreaccurateandwillhavegreatersuccess

    fromthestart.Acarefulandthoroughinitialsetupwillmakethetuningprocessmucheasier.

    CableGuard T he C ab le g ua rd s ho ul d b e p os it io ne d f or a de qu at e

    etching clearance. Depending on model, your bow may have

    astraitcarboncableguardinstalled.Ifso,yourcableguardis

    alreadypositionedforoptimumetchingclearance,andnofurther

    adjustmentisneeded.Ifyourbowcamewithametal,doglegged

    cableguard,pleasefollowthedirectionsbelow.Cautionshouldbe

    taken against over rotating the cable rod asexcessive clearance

    cancauseunnecessarypressuresonthelimbsandaxlebearings.

    Followthesesteps:

    1.Visuallyalignshootingstringdownthecenterofthegripforsingle

    cam,andoutsidecenterforduocams(3/16"totheleftofcenteron

    righthandbows,3/16"totherightonlefthandbows).

    2. Adjust arrow rest left or right so arrow is centered with the

    shootingstring.

    3.Adjustcableguardsothatcablesareoff-setno more than neededforetchingclearance.

    Onceoptimumangleisachieved,fullytightenthescrew,butdo

    notovertighten.

    SettingCenter Shot After your arrowrestis installed, you will

    needtosetitatagoodstartingpointtobegintuning.Theeasiestwaytodothisisto

    visually align the bowstring in the center of

    thegripsection.Ifyouareshootingyourbow

    withareleaseaid,your restwillneedtobe

    centeredwiththebowstring.Duringtuning,your

    arrowrestmayneedtobemovedinorout

    from its centered location. This is normal

    because different shooters apply different

    pressures to the bow. Fingershooters willneed to position the rest so that the point

    is about 1/8 outside the string. This is to

    compensate for the horizontal bending of

    the arrow upon release.Anarrow rest that

    provides some side support, such as a

    cushionbuttonforthearrow,isbestfornger

    shooters.

    QuickArrowRestandNockPlacement Youcanquicklyandeasily settheposition of your rest

    andnockpointusingtherestmountholesinyourbow.Your

    restshouldsitlevelwiththetworestmountholes,orlock

    mountofyourbow.(Seegraphic)Whentherestplacement

    iscorrect,youcanbeginplacingthenockset.Placeanock

    looselyonthestringandnockanarrow .Visuallyalignthe

    arrowlevelwithorslightlytail highoftherestmount holes.

    When the correctheightisset,crimpthenocksetintoplace.

    Thiswillgiveyouagoodstartingpointtobegintuningyourbow.

    SettingTheTiller Taking a tiller measurement allows you to check the relativetension setting of the upper and lower limbs. After setting the draw

    weightonyourbow,youwillneedtocheckthetillermeasurement

    tomakesurethatyouhaveadjustedyourlimbsevenly.OnallMartin

    compoundbows,0oreventillerwillshootperfectly.However, the tiller

    measurement can vary up to 1/4 closer at the bottom. There is

    no set measurement that provides peak performance for every

    shooter.Tomeasureyourtiller,simplymeasurefromthelimbpockets

    tothestringonbothendsofthebow.Someshootersndthatdifferenttillermeasurementsfrom"0"workbetterforthem.Itwillnothurtyour

    bowinanywayifyouexperimentwithtiller.

    Note: Your Peep Sight position and your nock point position can

    change when you turn one limb bolt. Take detailed measurements

    and be sure that your nock and peep are correct each time you

    turn your limb bolts.

    MeasuringDrawLength Whenyourbowisatfulldraw,theapexofthestringshouldbe

    nearthecornerofyourmouth.

    Drawlengthcaneasilybemeasuredfromtheapexofthestringatfull

    drawtothepivotpointofthegrip.From

    that measurement add 1 and you will

    have the A.M.O. standard draw length.

    AllMartinBowsareadjustablewiththeuseofmodules.Refer to the section that

    coversyourspeciccamstyleforinstruc-

    tionsonadjustingdrawlength.

    SettingNockPointWithBowSquare Placeabowsquareonthestringandslidethesquaredownuntil

    itrestsonyourarrowrest.Thenplaceamoveablenocksetonthe

    string.Usingthemeasuringscaleonthebowsquare,setthenock

    setattheproperlocationonthestring.Agoodstartingpointforngershootingishigh,measuringfromthebottomofthenock

    setto90onthebowstring.Startat1/8highifyouareusinga

    releaseaid.Ifyoudonothaveabowsquare,youcansnapan

    arrowonthestringandvisuallylevelthearrow.Thencrimpyour

    nockset.Inapinch,thiswillgetyoutoagoodstartinglocation.

    ArrowSpeedandStringAccessories

    CertainbowstringaccessoriesincludingD-loops,stringsilencers,andpeepsights,canreducearrowspeedbyasmuch10-15fps.

    ChangingDrawWeight Martinbowshaveafteenpounddrawweightrange.Usinga3/16allenwrench;youwill

    turnthelimbboltsclockwisetoaddweightandturncounterclockwisetoreduceweight.One

    completeturnoneachlimbboltprovidesabout3poundsofadjustment.

    TIP:Markalineoneachlimbboltinwhite-outorwhitepaintmarkertomakeiteasierto

    keeptrackofhowfaryouareturningeachbolt.Note: Do not shoot your bow with the limb bolts more than 5 turns out from the

    riser.

    ReplacingTheStrings Shouldyourstringneedreplacing,itisbesttogotoyourMartindealerandhaveitdone

    byexperts.Alwaysbesurethatthestringyoureplaceitwithisofthecorrectlengthand

    materialforyourbow.WerecommendusingMartinHammerheadbowstrings.Stringwear

    isnotcoveredbywarranty.

    CareAndStorage Whenproperlycaredfor,yournewMartinbowwillgiveyouyearsoftrouble-freeservice.

    Whenyourbowisnewitwillrequirenolubrication.Overtimeyoumayneedtolubricateyour

    camstoguardagainstfrictionandnoise.UseadrylubricationsuchasTeonspraypowder

    orgraphitepowder.YoucanalsousewetlubesuchasMolyLubeorTri-Flow.Donotuse

    WD-40lubrication.

    Agoodruleofthumbwhencaringforyourbowistokeepitascomfortableasyouare.If

    itistoohotforyou,itistoohotforyourbow.Ifitgetswet,dryitoffcompletely.Periodically

    cleanyourbowwithawetragandmildsoaptoremovemudordust(caution:donotstore

    untilcompletelydry).Prolongedexposuretoextremeheatmaycausefailureinyourbow

    limbsandexcessivestretchinyourstringsystem.Itwillnothurtyourbowifitisrainedon

    whileshooting,butmakesureitiscompletelydrybeforestoringitinabowcasetoguard

    againstrustorcorrosion.

    AdjustingtheTRGTofunctionproperly,thecablesrunningthrutheTRG

    should travel freely all the way to full draw without

    long-termcontactwiththeendofthecableslot.With

    somelongerdrawlengths,thecablemayreachthe

    end of the slot before the archer reaches full draw,

    allowingthecabletorubagainsttheendoftheslot.

    Whenthisoccurs,asmalladjustmentcanbemadeto

    extendtheTRGrodoutfromtheriser.First,pullthe

    cablesoffoftheTRGandaroundtothesightwindow

    sideoftheunit.Next,loosenthetwoAllenscrews

    securing the rod to the riser and slide the rod

    outward.Averysmalladjustmentisallthatisrequired.

    (Bothscrewsshouldremaininfullcontactwiththerod

    whenre-secured.)Tightenthescrewsandreinstallthe

    cablestotheirslotsontheTRG.

    Basic Setup

    InstallingandAdjustingtheDrawStop. There are a total of four parts to the Draw Stop

    assembly.Arubbercap,thealuminumbodyoftheDraw

    Stop,an8/32screwandan8/32hexnut.Toinstallthestop,

    placethehexnutinthetrackonthebacksideofthecam.

    Toadjustthestop,drawthebowbackeitherbyhandorina

    scale/shootingmachine.Atfulldraw,slidethestopuntilit

    contacts the under side of the limb. Back the

    stop off of the limb 1/32 (appox.) to allow for the

    rubber cap to be installed. Snug down the Draw Stop

    with the appropriate Hex head wrench, and install the

    rubbercapovertheDrawStop.

    Note: Some versions of the Acu-Trak and C.A.T. cams have numbered draw

    stop tracks which have no correlation to the draw module number or draw moduleposition numbers.

    InstallingandAdjustingtheSTS MostMartinbowsareoutttedwithanSTSStringDampeningunit,orareequippedto

    acceptone.Thisunitisinstalledinthe3/8diameterholelocatedjustbelowthegripand

    issecuredinplacewiththesetscrewintersectingthisholefromthesideoftheriser.The

    STSrodshouldbepositionedsothattheSTSBumperisnearlyagainstthebowstringwhen

    thebowisatrest.ExcessivecontactwiththebowstringwillpreventtheSTSBumperfrom

    performingeffectivelyasadampener,andmaycausetheBumpertobepulledoffbythebowstringduringtheshot.Asmallgap(approximately1/16)shouldbeallowedbetweenthe

    bowstringandBumperwhenthebowisatrest.

    Single Cams That Use F Modules MartinSingleCamsystemsfeatureamodulardrawlengthadjustment.Aseriesofdraw

    lengthmodulesareusedtoadjustdrawlengthinone-inchincrements(seebelow).Draw

    lengthscanalsobeadjustedinhalf-inchincrementswithineachsizemodule.

    AdjustingTheSingleCamDrawLengthUsingdrawlengthmodules,thedrawlengthcanbeadjustedin1"increments.Tochange

    thedrawlength,replacethemoduleonthecambyremovingthescrewsthatholdittothecam. NOTE: do not draw your bow without the module installed. It will damage your

    harness.

    ThemodulesizesrangefromF-1toF-7.Asthemodul enumbersgethigher,thedrawgetslon-

    ger.Thedrawlengthcanalsobeadjustedin1/2"incrementsusingthepegsonthebackofthecam.

    drawlengthmodule.Eachdrawlengthmodulehasnumbersthatindicatedrawlengthset-

    tings.TheStandardModulehaspositionsthatnumber#1through#7,witheachnumber

    providingadditionaldrawlength.TheLongModulehaspositions#8and#9.Thehigher

    the#position,thelongerthedrawlength.

    ChangingtheHybridCamsDrawLength Whenyouareadjustingthedrawlength,makesure

    thatboththeupperandlowermodulesareinthesame

    setting. To rotate the modules, you will rst need to

    removethetwo(2)allenheadmodulescrews.Rotate

    the module to the desired position and replace and

    tightenthescrewsintheappropriatepositions.

    DO NOT attempt to draw the bow without the

    draw length modules in place and secured.

    Cam tuning assures straight and level

    travel of the arrow (nock travel) as it

    travels thru and from the bow. Tuned

    Cams will benet accuracy and keep

    noise and vibration to a minimum. To

    full draw, slow down and watch as the

    cable stops (the ends of each draw

    module at the same time. If your cams

    First, relax the bow properly in a

    Fine Tuning Your Compound Bow

    Paper Tuning Papertuningwillworkforallstylesofshooting.Asyouaregoingthrough

    thesestepskeepinmindthatpapertuningisnotchiseledinstoneasthelawofarchery.Itisa

    guidelineforcleanarrowight.Manyshootersndthattheirsetupshootsmostaccurately

    whenachievinglessthanperfecttuningresults.Forexample,sometargetshooterssettheir

    bowstotearslightlyhighthroughthepaper.Theyfeelthismakestheirarrowightlesslikelytobeinuencedbyoutsidevariableslikewindorrainandhelpsarrowclearancewhenusing

    ashoot-aroundtyperestsuchasabladeorpantypelauncher.

    To begin paper tuning, set up a frame or rack with paper suspended from the

    frame. Position the frame far enough away from your backstop so the arrow can

    completely clear the paper. Stand about ten feet from the paper and make sure

    yourarrowislevelasitiesthroughthepaper.Fireatestshotandreadtheresults.

    Proceduresforcorrectingtheteararelistednexttoeachdiagram.Pleasenotethattuning

    procedures recommended for f inger shooting often differ from those used for

    release shooting. You will find that the arrow spine reaction is different for fingers

    and release, therefore, the procedures for correcting the different disturbances vary.

    There are two things that you can do to correct this problem; you can select a weaker

    arrow, or you can decreasethe cushion plunger tension. Increasing the peak weight of

    yourboworincreasingyourpointweightwillalsomakeyourarrowactabitmorelimber.

    Ifyourunetchedshaftsimpacttotherightofyouretchedshafts,yourarrowistoolimber.

    Therearetwomethodsyoucantrythatwillcorrectthisproblem;youcanselectastiffer

    arrow,oryoucanincreasethecushionplungertension.Decreasingthepeakweightofyour

    bowordecreasingyourpointweightwillalsomakeyourarrowactabitmorestiff.

    To furtherfine tuneyour setup, step back totwenty or thirty yards and repeat

    the above procedures. Small flight disturbances will show up better as you getfarther from the target. Your Martin bowis essentiallytuned when your bare shafts hit

    togetherwithyouretchedshafts.Keepinmindthatifyoucontinueandcompletethesuper

    Super Fine Quick Tune Shortrangegrouptuningwillworkwithanystyleofshooting.Bestresultsareachieved

    Thisisagoodultranetuningmethodwhenspacewillnotpermitlongrangeshooting.After

    completingthefollowingstepsyouwillhaveverycleanarrowightandawelltuned,accurate

    setup.

    Tobegintheshortrangetuningmethod,youwillneedapieceofcardboard,oratarget

    face.Makeabroadlinethroughthecenterofthepaperontheblankside,makingsurethe

    lineisthickenoughtoseefromtwentyyards.Startatabout10to15yardsfromthetarget.

    Useyourtuningtargetandpositionthelineverticallywhenyouaretuningthearrowrestand
