India with over 50 per cent of population comprising youngsters below the age of 30 years is at the
cusp of social transformation driven by advances in technology. This phenomenon is manifest in
terms of hundreds of Start-up companies established by aspiring college graduates, who are not
satisfied with routine job postings that limit their creativity and accomplishments.
To leverage this propitious scenario to boost economic growth, as country‟s premier professional
body – The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, held one-day brain-
storming session, entitled, „IETE Innovations Meet‟ on Saturday, 27th August 2016, where many
experts expressed their thoughts for the blueprint of India‟s progress.
Prime Minister Modi‟s novel ideas that inspired discussions included Government‟s recent
projects like “Digital India” and „Make in India”. Particularly, country can be justifiably proud of
the „Aadhar‟ project, that is today a model for the world, inspiring many countries to embrace this
biometric-based identity for the millions of population enabling direct transfer of government
benefits. The meet commenced with the welcoming remarks from Prof (Wg Cdr) P Prabhakar
(Retd), Chairman Board of Research, Innovation and Standards, who highlighted IETE‟s
initiatives to build innovation space, it‟s contribution in creating innovation ecosystem and how
IETE can contribute meaningfully, given the requisite financial support by the Govt. IETE
President, Smt Smriti Dagur highlighted the appreciable innovative efforts of India in attracting
foreign investment and setting up of R&D units in the country. She mentioned the innovations by
the name of jugaad at a village level and opined that these ideas might become path breaker of
tomorrow. She called upon all to work together towards building young innovators base and
offered IETE‟s platform to promulgate Govt schemes to reach out to people.
The Chief Guest Shri Ajay Kumar, Additional Secretary, MeitY, Govt of India, in his address
emphasized on the deployment of innovative solutions for which there is a need for suitable
interface between Govt, professional bodies and industries. He said that IETE stands a golden
opportunity to expand its space via Govt promoted projects like Digital India or Electronics
manufacturing workshops and it can also play its role in spreading awareness for developing
competence, which is central for innovation. He offered full support to projects which are central
to MeitY development plans.
Shri Sagar Paliwal, CEO, Auticartz.com, touched upon the present status of highly unorganized
auto service sector in India, which he says is filled with spurious spare parts and unprincipled
dealers. Today the customer has no time to search for the right service provider and end up buying
cheap Chinese knockoffs of real ones. He talked about his creation of e-commerce platform

(autokartz.com) that caters to all the needs of the car owners, be it installation, servicing of the car
products or 24×7 road side assistance, etc. Shri Ajay Mohapatra, CEO Just rojgar India Pvt Ltd,
& CEO- We the People, got into details of how they are creating sustainable livelihood for the
people who are at the bottom of the pyramid; their training courses (on line & off line) meant for
illiterate and a larger platform for unorganized sectors.
He was of the view that technology must reach masses and there is a need of incubation centres at
village level. Shri S K Prusty, Dir, DoT, advocated the importance of communication. He said
that innovation could thrive only through communication, that is among different verticals,
different layers, different geography that will lead to transformation. He also shared his conception
of Standard Operating System for Indian languages (SOIL), useful for mass innovation. He talked
about making things simpler for the citizen by devoting his time & efforts in core activities
without wasting time in number of auxiliaries. Dr Ravi Krishnan Elangovan, IIT, Delhi ,
enlightened the audience about the present Innovation Ecosystem in IIT Delhi, where it has
introduced multiple courses which provide opportunity to work on real world problems through
collaborations. According to him new teaching/ learning ecosystem is conducive to innovation.
There is a need to enable /nucleate multi-disciplinary teams and co-creating the products and
solutions involving end users at every stage. He also said that we should ensure that there is a
continuity of innovations for longer durations. He shared his case study on problem driven
innovation on Typhoid diagnosis. The next speaker, Shri Kashif Sherwani, Research Scholar,
CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh presented his talk on “Tool for Real-time Assessment of Postural
Stability and Biofeedback for rehabilitation”. He said how with their virtual kit and observation
and questionnaire they are helping the patients with adverse effects. Associate Professor Jiwan
Reddy, SNIST, Hyderabad, threw light on his research paper “Design of Electroencephalography
(EEG) based speech recognition system for people with speaking disabilities”.
According to this research they analyze the EEG signals to process speech recognition, convert
effective brain signal to word conversion, assist
people and enable communication to enhance their confidence. Shri Yogesh Andlay, School of
Inspired Leadership, Gurgaon, enlightened the audience on his „School of Inspired Leadership‟ of
whom he is a part of mentoring network. He talked about his programme that creates leaders with
confidence, character & enthusiasm. Shri Rajesh Gaba, Innovator, LED lighting Innovation
Point, shared his successful work on development of LED lights with parallel load with equal
distribution of current in each LED chip. Wg Cdr K K Verma, Founder Director, Innovative
Institute of Unlearning, talked about some ground situation in India with regards to innovation. He
called it a long journey and setting the right priorities. He was of the view that there is a need to
unlearn outdated perceptions, working with latest technology & resources, strengthening of the
institutions.
The meet showcased how academic and industry collaboration are transforming the sectors and
how further collaboration will further shapethe country. The concluding remarks were delivered
by Maj Gen P K Jaggia, VSM (Retd), Secretary General IETE.

Gupta, Chancellor, Sharda University and Chairman SGI were the Chief Guest. In his address,
Shri Gupta while lauding the government‟s visionary initiatives like setting up of National
Innovation Foundation, said that while US spends 2.7% of its GDP on R&D, India‟s figure of
0.85% is a matter of serious concern. Recalling the government‟s intent to set up world-class
universities on the lines of Harvard, he ruled that there was no clear-cut roadmap to achieve this
objective.
A conscious approach to nurture creativity is a must at all levels of education -- from school to
college. According to him, a student should be trained to be passionate about study, about doing
PhD, as today, reputed universities are keenly looking for PhD students. He asserted that the next
economic boom will be in the area of multidisciplinary-research embracing biology and
engineering.
Giving background of the event, Lt Gen (Dr) AKS Chandele, PVSM, AVSM (Retd), President
IETE remarked that via this initiative, IETE has facilitated an inspiring dialogue among industry,
academia and R&D Labs to create an ecosystem geared towards deepening the innovation culture
in our economy and society. He expressed deep satisfaction at the enhanced level of participation

Research, Innovations and Standards (BoRIS) lauded the infectious enthusiasm of participants
from reputed R&D Labs like CDoT, CDAC, CEERI, CSIO, CEL and industries namely, Accuster
Technologies & autokartz.com besides educational institutes such as Amity and Sharda University
Greater Noida, BITS Pilani, ACE, Hyderabad, Aligarh Muslim University etc.
Prominent speakers included Dr Tanya Singh, Amity University, Noida; Shri Bharat
Ravichandran, C-DOT; Shri Dheeraj, CSIRCEERI, Pilani; Dr Pankaj Dalela, C-DOT; Ms. Garima
Chandel, ITS Engg College, Greater Noida;. Shri Achu Chandran, CSIRCEERI, Pilani; Shri

K Sherwani, CSIO-CSIR, Chandigarh; and Dr Rakesh Kumar Sehgal, CDAC Mohali, Shri

Bhargava, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal. Working models titled, Pathology Lab in a
Box, High Definition Flexible Endoscope, LTIVA-Hotplate, Automated Solar Panel Cleaning, T-

IETE has conducted its 3rd
Innovators & Industry Meet, organized by Board of Research,
Innovation & Standards (BoRIS), on 01stSept 2018 at IETE HQ, New Delhi. The inaugural session
of the meet was graced by Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defence R & D and
Chairman, DRDO as the Chief Guest. In his speech Dr G Satheesh Reddy congratulated the IETE
for holding such a prodigious national level event. He advised the young audience and the
participants to explore opportunities of innovations for the success of central government‟s Make-
in-India movement. Before this, Prof (Wg Cdr) P Prabhakar, Chairman, BoRIS, presented
overview about the meet highlighting the achievements of the meet. Prof (Dr) K T V Reddy,
President IETE, in his presidential address, congratulated the team BoRIS for the successful
conduct of previous 2 innovations meets and organizing the 3rd

The inaugural session was followed by the presentation of Zonal Innovators who had won the
respective IETE‟s North, South, East and West Zonal Innovation meet. There were 9 presenters in
this session who apart from giving presentation also displayed their innovative projectswhich were
evaluated by the panel of evaluators, Prof S S Aggarwal and Col Mahesh Khera (Retd). Ms.
Jigyasa, from North Zone, stood 1st for her project, Vehicular Child Trap Alert System. Ms. Divya
Sodha, from West Zone, stood 2nd
for her project, Automatic Instrumentation System to Record
and Indentify Nocturnal Bird Calls with Various Weather Parameters. Mr. Prasad Nilajkar, also
from West Zone stood 3rd
for his project Smart Automated Bus Station. The 1st, 2
nd and 3
rd
winners were awarded with cash prize of Rs. 15000/-, Rs. 10000/-, and Rs 5000/- respectively.
Apart from the cash award, Springer sponsored e-Book coupons worth EUR 300, 200 and 100
respectively to the 1st, 2
nd and 3
rd winners.
In the second session, innovators and researchers from academia and industry presented their
presentations. Amongst the students, were, Mr. P Sai Krishna Chaitanya – Automatic Light
Brightness Control, Mr. S Sridhar Reddy – The Smart Catle Shed, Mr. K Uday Kumar – Smart
Security System for Multi Purpose, Mr. Rahul Chavan – Smart Water Management System, all
from Anurag College of Engineering, Hyderabad, Mr. Kunal,– S-Mart Real Time Demand
Scrutinizer, Mr. Deepanshu Gupta – Road Editors, both from YMCA Faridabad, and Mr.
Yashvardhan Varshney – Deep Learning and NMF Based Single Channel Mixed Speech
Separation for Automatic Speech Recognition, from Aligarh Muslim university. Two of IETE‟s
sponsored PhD students; Mr. Prashant Upadhyaya – Performance Evaluation of Bimodal Hindi
Speech Recognition under Adverse Environment, from Aligarh Muslim University, and Mr.
Mrinmoy Bharadwaj – Investigation of Graphene based Antennas for Next Generation
Communication Networks, from IIT Guwahati also presented their final research work. Mr. Rohit
Arvind Deshmukh from AISSMS Institute of IT, Pune presented his innovation project -
Wheelchair with Smart Healthcare Technology. Dr. Tanya Singh, Amity University, Noida
highlighted the need of E-learning in Higher Education.
The strength of 3rd Innovators and industry meet was the representation and presentation by the
industries. Mr. Sagar Paliwal, Founder & CEO of Autokartz.com presented the details of their
Start-Up - An Automotive Eco-System. Sh. L B Gautam, country head of Accuster Technologies
Pvt. Ltd. presented their latest innovation product - Mobile Diagnostic Lab. Mr. Vishal Seth, a
Research Engineer in the RoboSpecies Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Noida presented company‟s latest
Innovation - Robotics and Automation in Education. Mr. Shubham Shukla of Persapien Innovators
Pvt. Ltd. presented his Innovation project - Airlens. Mr. R D Verma, an AMIETE in Electronics &
Telecommunication Engineering and CEO of Airsolwin Services, presented his Innovation project
- EPC Solution. Ms. Swati Meherishi an Executive Editor of Applied Sciences and Engineering at
Springer spoke about Workflows in the academic publishing industry and innovative technologies
and data tools. Ms. Varsha Thakur from Cyber Education & Services, Quick Heal Technologies
Ltd. spoke about Cyber Security Education in the current IT services. Mr. Nate Srinath
Nudurupati, Founder Director of Inxee Systems Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi presented a useful talk on
emerging technology, the Internet of things (IoT). Mr. Sandeep Saini, Solution Architect & Head
LTE RAN Product & solutions, Ericsson India presented a talk on Driving Innovation – Telecom.
Dr. Ravi Chamria, CEO of Sofocle presented another useful talk on Blockchain Technology -
Efficiency for the Future. Lastly, Mr. Nikhil Kanodia, Business Head at Precision Electronics Ltd.
(PEL), shared his experiences in building up a small business entity into a big company.
The valedictory session of the meet was graced by Dr. Madhavan Nair Rajeevan, Secretary,
Ministry of Earth Sciences as Chief Guest and Mr. Vipin Tyagi, Executive Director, C-DOT as
Guest of Honour. Prof (Wg Cdr) P Prabhakar, Chairman, BoRIS welcomed all the dignitaries
present on the dais. Prof (Dr) K T V Reddy, President IETE, expressed his gratitude towards the
chief guest Dr. Madhavan Nair Rajeevan for gracing the event with his presence and granting an
amount of Rs. 2 Lakh for the conduct of the event. He also welcomed and thanked the Guest of
Honour, Mr. Vipin Tyagi for sparing time for the meet and presenting a useful talk on new
technologies like NGN and Giga Networks. The chief guest hailed the presence of young students
in the meet. He also appreciated the efforts of IETE in bringing young innovators and the industry
people on the common platform for their techno and economic interaction and collaboration. He
promised to support IETE‟s such events in future too. He presented the prizes to the winners of
inter zonal innovation competition and mementos to all the participants. Lt Col Dipankar Sen
(Retd), Secretary General, presented vote of thanks. He congratulated the team IETE for the
successful conduct of the meet. He expressed special gratitude towards, Sharda University, K R
Manglam University, G D Goenka University, Quick Heal Academics, Springer, and Redefine
Dimensions Convergence Pvt. Ltd. for their sponsorship. He also thanked all the attendees for
making the meet meaningful by their presence. The meet ended with the National Anthem.
On October 22, 2019 the IETE Mumbai Centre organised IETE Innovation Meet-2019 at Shah &
Anchor Kutchhi Engineering College (SAKEC), Deonar successfully. The theme of the meet was
focused on the Advances in Radio Frequency measurements. It has provided opportunity to
academicians, students to update themselves with current trend and interact with the industry
Experts. On this occasion centre also organised national level project competition.
In his welcome address and opening remarks Dr. S. S. Thakur, Chairman IETE Mumbai
extended deepest gratitude to the Chief Guest, Key note speaker and dignitaries for gracing the
occasion with their kind presence. He also briefed the need to conduct the innovation meet. Dr.
Bhavesh Patel, Principal SAKEC elaborated how Institutes are playing vital role in innovations
today and emphasized on Technological innovations to change the future life. Dr. K. T. V. Reddy
briefed how innovation meet started and role of IETE in innovation in Technology. Dr. J. W.
Bakal congratulated IETE Mumbai for organising IETE Innovation Meet in Mumbai and informed
plans and programs of IETE. Key note speaker Mr. Jayant Potdar delivered a talk which focused
on how the innovations are changing the industry dynamics and human life. He quoted some
example from Automobile Industry and Computer Industry. He also motivated participants and
appeal them to take part in Technological innovations. Mr. Parag Walinjkar, Honorary secretary of
IETE Mumbai Centre offered vote of thanks. Other than more than 50 registered participants,
dignitaries of IETE Mumbai and Navi Mumbai centre, invited speakers and guests from Industry,
ISF coordinators were also present for the inauguration function.
The first lecture was delivered by Mr. Kartik Parikh, CEO Fastech Communications an
expert from Industry, who explained how radiated RF measurements are carried out, equipments
used, scope and applications of it. The second lecture was delivered by Mr. Anish Murthy, RF
Design Engineer of Anirtsu India Pvt Ltd. He briefed on RF Measurement Technology and
various instrument used to carry out RF measurements.
After invited talks Mr. J R Nikahade, Deputy Director DTE and Mr. Karnani, former
senior scientist from BARC inaugurated project exhibition. They also judged the projects
exhibited by the student participants from various states in India. They selected three best projects
to award prizes. Three more consolation prises were distributed to the participating groups
selected by judges. Cash Prizes were distributed during valedictory session of the meet to the
respective winners. In the valedictory few participants offered feedback after closing remark
offered by the guest. It was concluded that the meet has met its objective successfully. Participants
were happy with the arrangements and organization of the event. At last honorary secretary
offered the vote of thanks.
