Zenebe contributed to the project entitled ‘Strengthening farmers’ resilience to climate change through agricultural water management’ (funded by USAID). Zenebe has started his carrier in the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) as a junior researcher in Agro-meteorology and GIS research program in 2000. Zenebe has extensive research experience in the field of land and water management such soil and water conservation and small-scale irrigation at plot and watershed scales. At plot level, he designed and led several participatory research on different technological options for restoration of degraded landscapes in Ethiopia; identifying the effect of soil conservation structures on different ecosystem services; water balance studies of different land use and effect of conservation agriculture on land degradation and crop yield. At the watershed scale, he designed and led several research activities for improving land productivity through an integrated watershed management approach in Ethiopia. Zenebe coordinated the watershed- management research program at EIAR for three years. He had also a privilege to coordinate the African Highlands Initiative (AHI) watershed management programme in Ethiopia. While coordinating AHI, he led an interdisciplinary team in the development and implementation of participatory action and empirical researches to improve livelihoods through the intensification of under-utilized and degraded watersheds. Honorary Appointment Zenebe has appointed as adjunct associate professor in the University of New England (UNE) in Australia since January 2014.
