    REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, JANUARY 17, 2012

    The Board of Trustees:

    Reelected trustee officers for 2012: Mrs. Marie Shepard, President; Mrs. Rene Dungan, Vice-President; and Mr. Charles Boston, Secretary.

    Approved minutes of previous meetings. Received the monthly financial status report. Approved the claims docket for payment of current accounts. Received monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special events. Approved requests to conduct the following fund raiser activities: Jefferson Middle School Band to

    sell team tumblers January 23 February 3, 2012; Columbia High School Basketball Boosters to sellchicken plates February 3, 2012; Columbia High School French Club to sell Bon-Bons February 1-29,

    2012; Jefferson Middle School Renaissance Club to hold a Mardi Gras dance on February 16, 2012;

    Columbia High School Softball Team to sell barbeque chicken plates on February 18, 2012, and to

    sell tickets for a chance of winning up to $500.00 (The drawing will be held on April 17, 2012, senior

    night.); and Jefferson Middle School Junior Beta Club to sell raffle tickets for a watch and a power

    balance bracelet February 13 March 13, 2012.

    Granted authorization to purchase forty-five (45) season tickets from the New Orleans Saints NFLorganization, the sole source provider, to continue the school-wide positive incentive program at

    Columbia High School for the 2012-2013 school year.

    Approved the request for authorization for selected Columbia High School students and chaperonesto travel to Etampes, France, March 30 April 14, 2012, to participate in the Columbia-Etampes

    French-American Foreign Exchange Program.

    Adopted the 2012-2013 budget development calendar. Gave the assurance that necessary funds will be budgeted for the 2013 fiscal year to pay the

    districts portion of all expenditures for E-Rate subsidized expenses as required by the Schools and

    Libraries Division of the Universal Services Administrative Company.

    Granted authorization to solicit bids from vendors for the purpose of upgrading the wirelessinfrastructure at Columbia High School and Jefferson Middle School.

    Approved the recommendation to terminate a custodian at Columbia High School. Approved the employment of Lindsey Davis as the Speech Pathologist at Columbia Elementary

    School, effective January 10, 2012, pending the results of a current background check as required by

    State law; Drew Inman as a sixth grade teacher at Jefferson Middle School, effective January 4,

    2012, pending the results of a current background check as required by State law; Terry

    Montgomery be changed from a full time bus driver to a substitute bus driver, effective January 5,

    2012; Jean Sauls, Rueben McDowell, and Nena White be employed as after-school workers for the

    21st

    Century Community Learning Center on an as needed basis at the certified personnel rate of

    $25.00 per hour pending the results of a current background check as required by State law,

    effective December 14, 2011; and Twalia Swanner, Toyia Bourn, Judy Griffith, and Jessica Meservy

    be employed as after-school workers for the 21st Century Community Learning Center on an as

    needed basis at the professional personnel rate of $25.00 per hour pending the results of a current

    background check as required by State law, effective December 14, 2011.

    Accepted two students released from the Lamar County School District as tuition students for theremainder of the 2011-2012 school year.

    Discussed a confidential student matter in executive session. Was informed that Coach Greg Owen was selected by the National Federation of State High School

    Associations (NFHS) to receive the 2011 Coach of the Year award at the state level in the sport of

    baseball.
