EuroTier 2016 has once again broadened its cattle and cattle hus-bandry sector substantially. Accordingly there will be a diversified technical programme for the sector this year as well.

The Cattle Forum in Hall 12, Stand H20, will offer lectures every day between 10:00 h and 18:00 h on topical themes concerning cattle breeding and husbandry. Alongside a number of talks and presenta-tions on animal health, animal welfare, bio-safety, feeding, manage-ment and economics, the Forum will also present the expert work carried out by DLG Committees to the EuroTier visitors. From 12:00 h to 14:00 h there will be lecture sessions on the focal area of the Spe-cial “Healthy udders throughout the year”, which will be translated into English.

Cattle Forum

Special “Udder health throughout the year”

With the title “Udder health throughout the year”, this year’s Special in Hall 12, Stand F25, is devoted to one of the major challenges for successful dairy farmers – maintenance and improvement of udder health in the herd and in individual cows. In the Special, which covers a floor space of 600 m², listeners can learn with the aid of charts and posters, short videos and further illustrative material where optimal values lie on the individual farm and what factors need to be taken into account to optimize the “lactation”, transit and dry phases.

The udder health-related statistics provided in the monthly monitor-ing reports for dairy farmers provide the farmer with information about the health status of his herd and help to conduct a vulnerability analysis. The Special will present interpretation aids and possible ways of improving udder health.

Is it true that healthy animals don’t need any antibiotics? With regard to the discussion on reduced use of antibiotic veterinary medicines that repeatedly flares up in public, maintenance of udder health through optimal keeping and care of dairy cattle is the primary goal of dairy farmers.

On the eve of EuroTier, 14 November 2016, animal farmers, advisors, researchers and exhibitors will be meeting in Room 2 of the Convention Center for the Cattle and Pig Event (starting at 18:30 h). On this evening, internationally acknowledged experts will be explain-ing their perspectives on the key issue, “Animal welfare and modern agriculture – contradiction or the future?” The lecture session will be followed by a joint reception in the Foyer of the Convention Center.

TopTierTreff

International Cattle & Pig Event

The TopTierTreff – top cattle genetics in Hall 11 – is a major attraction and a must for cattle breeders. German and international dairy and beef cattle breeds will be on show on the rotating stage on all four days of the exhibiton. Some sheep and goat breeding stock will also be featured. TopTierTreff will thus support you in selecting the right genetics for your farm. The animal presentations will be translated into Russian on Wednesday afternoon and into English on Thursday afternoon. Details of the time schedules can be found on the appro-priate page on the internet.

76 Up-to-date information on the internet: www.eurotier.com

The Pig Forum in Hall 17, Stand A05, offers a highly interesting pro-gramme with topical themes from the field of pig production on all four days of the show. Listeners will learn all they need to know about the latest feeding strategies and feedstuffs. They can gather information about measures to improve animal health in the housing, or let interna-tional experts explain current trends in keeping and feeding systems on pig farms.

The Pig Forum will also be a central platform for presenting the expert work performed by various DLG Committees. Let practitioners tell you about their experience with new keeping methods, feeding strategies or materials to keep the animals occupied and improve animal welfare.

On the eve of EuroTier, 14 November 2016, animal farmers, advisors, researchers and exhibitors will be meeting in Room 2 of the Conven-tion Center for the Cattle and Pig Event (starting at 18:30 h). On this evening, internationally acknowledged experts will be explaining their perspectives on the key issue, “Animal welfare and modern agriculture – contradiction or the future?” The lecture session will be followed by a joint reception in the Foyer of the Convention Center.

The Special show “The future of pig fattening” being held in Hall 17, Stand B05, has been organized jointly by BFL (Bauförderung Landwirtschaft – an organization devoted to promoting agricultural building construction and optimizing livestock management condi-tions) and DLG.

Following a focus on piglet rearing in 2014, international trends in keeping finishing pigs will be presented at this EuroTier. Many EuroTier exhibitors will be showing proven and new options for housing construction, climate control and keeping, feeding and health management. This is the place to gather information about practicable solutions offered by the participating companies in order to ensure both animal welfare and environmental protection. The Special “Future-proofing pig finishing” will also feature alternative marketing channels for pigs.

Advisors on keeping methods and feeding management, animal health and housing construction will be available to interested visi-tors as expert and neutral contact partners. In addition, the EuroTier Pig Forum directly opposite starting at 14:00 h every day will be presenting selected themes from the Special for discussion.

Against the background of current discussions, one section of the Special will be devoted to castration without anaesthesia. Pig farmers will be able to collect information here not only about the pros and cons of the individual alternatives. The Special will also be looking at the perception of boar odour, as well as the marketing and the processing properties of boar meat.

The Poultry Forum in Hall 4, Stand A33, is offering a highly interest-ing programme covering topics from the poultry production sector on all four days. This year you will be able to learn above all about options for emission reduction in poultry housing, how to deal with birds that have not received beak treatment and about animal wel-fare.

The highlight for the poultry sector is always the International Poultry Conference which is held the day before the trade fair opens, this year on 14 November, starting at 16:00 h in the Convention Center and entitled “Animal welfare in international trade – fundamental ethical value or trade restriction?”, to which all interested in the sector are warmly invited. In his introductory lecture, Professor Harald von Witzke will explore the pros and contras of high animal welfare standards in Europe for international trade. This will be followed by a panel discus-sion on the subject. The conference will end at around 17:30 h.

The popular sector get-together, “International Poultry Event”, will start at 19:30 h. This year guest speaker Christopher Langholz, Group President Global Poultry, Cargill, will be talking about the topic “Asian rising”.

The Poultry Special is being held as a special show in Hall 4, Stand A31. It offers opportunities to gather information about process-integrated emission reduction measures known as “indoor” processes that minimize the development of dust, ammonia and odour emis-sions. Where their effectiveness is demonstrated, these methods can be an alternative to waste air cleaning, with the advantage that in addition to their emission-reducing effect, they also have positive ef-fects on animal health and animal welfare as well as on the working conditions for operators.

EuroTier exhibitors will be showing and presenting their approaches and methods in the fields of flooring (e.g. special litter materials or litter additives), feeding (e.g. feed additives or adaptive feeding) and air conditioning technology (e.g. heat exchangers). The Special will be accompanied by discussion panels on indoor methods in the Poultry Forum.

Aquaculture as the controlled production of aquatic organisms has been part of EuroTier for more than 10 years now. This

is one of the few international exhibitions in the agricultural sector that informs professional animal farmers about this innovative sector. Aquaculture now accounts for more than half of the aquatic organisms consumed worldwide (FAO 2014). Reason enough to organize an industry get-together for aquaculture.
