Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP is an international law firm with more than 1,600 attorneys in 23 offices worldwide. Our more than 200 attorneys in Europe, including approximately 30 attorneys based in our Frankfurt and Munich offices, focus on dispute resolution, mergers and acquisitions, corporate gover-nance, private equity, antitrust and tax law. In September 2014, we expanded our German dispute resolution capabilities by hiring Dr. Anke Sessler, former chief counsel litigation at Siemens AG.

By pursuing the challenges of the Vis Moot Court, you have added an important element to your legal education. As many of our attorneys at Skadden know from their own experiences, attending a Moot Court can be an exciting time and can give you the opportunity to build many new relationships.

Skadden is pleased to be a part of the Hanover PreMoot, and we look forward to meeting you. We wish all of the participants luck and success at the 12th Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot Hongkong and the 22nd Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot – Vienna.

On behalf of the Institute for Procedural Law and Attorney Regulations (IPA) and the

Hanover Vis Alumni Association (HVAA) we would like to give you a very warm welcome

to the 9th Hanover PreMoot. For three days Hanover will become Vindobona, Danubia.

We are proud to organize and host this event, which has become a well-established tradition

since its first edition in 2007. With 30 participating teams the Hanover PreMoot is among the

largest PreMoots in Europe. Nevertheless, we hope that this event will still provide you with

the honest hospitality in a family-like atmosphere it is known for. Moreover, we are sure that

our PreMoot will serve you with a combination of an academic and intellectual challenge

where you can improve strategic thinking and experience law in a cross-cultural atmosphere.

For the fourth time we are hosting an international PreMoot conference as a warm up for

arbitrators, coaches and team members. The topic of this year’s conference is “Arbitration

without Consent”. We are very proud and thankful that we can present an outstanding

panel of internationally well recognized practitioners. Our special thanks go to: Alma

Forgó, Andreas J. Roquette, LL.M. (New York), Moritz Schmitt, LL.M. (NYU), Dr. Hans-Patrick

Schroeder, Dr. Anke Sessler and Professor Dr. Kristina Siig.

Many thanks also go to all the arbitrators, who devote themselves voluntarily to the great

Willem C. Vis Moot Community serving as arbitrators here in Hanover. In each pleading,

the mooties will find a tribunal composed of high ranking practitioners and coaches or

former mooties.

The Willem C. Vis Moot is designed to be an educational program with many facets of

real legal profession in the form of a competition. Hopefully, this PreMoot will similarly

be an educational and beneficial experience for everyone. Therefore, all team-members

and coaches are encouraged to watch other pleadings when they are not scheduled to

argue or to arbitrate (and if it is not forbidden by the rules of the Willem C. Vis Moot).

Words of Welcome...Institute for Procedural Law and Attorney Regulations (IPA) Hanover Vis Alumni Association (HVAA)

Page 5: 9TH Hanover PreMoot

We hope that the days‘ events will not only allow teams to further refine their

arguments and oral presentation but also to get in contact with each other. One

will especially have the opportunity to socialize during the evening reception

at the “Dachgeschoss” on Thursday night and the Barbecue on Friday night.

We are still able to organize the PreMoot, including the social events, without

charging any participation fee. This is only possible because the Mooties and

the former Mooties of the Hanover Team understand the PreMoot as a personal

invitation for friends with homemade cake and sandwiches. Additionally, the Soldan

Foundation, Gleiss Lutz and especially Skadden make the social events possible.

We hope you enjoy your stay, especially the barbecue sponsored by Skadden.

Without the dedication and commitment of the staff of the Institute for Procedural

Law and Attorney Regulations (especially Nassim Eslami and Jaschar Mirkhani)

the PreMoot could not have taken place. They all deserve our deepest gratitude!

May the Hanover PreMoot be a harold for the spirit of the Willem C. Vis Moot

in Hong Kong and Vienna. It is a great privilege for us to have you all here in

Hanover!

The Hanover Vis Alumni Association e.V. is a forum for former and current participants

of the Willem C. Vis Moot Court and the Willem C. Vis (East) Moot Court to unite and

network. It shall serve as a platform for exchanging experience and knowledge.

Another major aspect for the Hanover Vis Alumni Association is the ideal and

financial support for the current Vis Moot Team. The participation in the Willem C.

Vis is a unique chance for every student but also a challenge. Being aware of that,

the Hanover Vis Alumni Association tries to forward experiences from former team

members, having started their career out in the world already, to the next generation

of “Mooties”. Moreover, we are supporting the Hanover PreMoot by acting as

Arbitrators and by organizing pleadings in Law Firms.

We appreciated that for our former participation in the Willem C. Vis only personal

qualification was decisive but not any personal financial aspects. Together with the

sponsors of the Willem C. Vis we regard it as our duty to help the next generation of

participants to keep it like that.

The tradition is going strong: For the 10th time Leibniz University of Hanover is proud to invite you to the Hanover PreMoot!

This year‘s 9th Hanover PreMoot continues to be one of the biggest premoot events in Europe with 30 teams from 13 countries with an impressive roster of arbitrators - experienced practitioners and distinguished teaching faculty alike. Not to mention the 3rd PreMoot Conference.

We are counting on an even larger group of participants in 2016. Get in touch with us for updates and your participation as a team or an arbitrator. Be part of the tradition!
