MPUMALANGA Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe has condemned the ongoing taxi patrollers for harassing community members, who are often seen on the roadside asking for lifts from passing motorists. Taxi patrols have the tendency of forcing hitchhikers to utilize mini bus taxis that are allocated at nearby taxi ranks even when they are not willing to do so. According to the MEC, this tendency of forcing people into their taxis is illegal. “The responsibility to patrol roads resides with law enforcers and public transport inspectors. The patrollers should rather raise their concerns with relevant authorities.

Although we are not encouraging members of the public stand on highways and ask for lifts, we cannot condone vigilantism that comes in the form of taxi patrollers wrestling for passengers with private vehicle owners,” the MEC said. Shongwe has also warned motorists not to stop where it is not safe to do so or where they are prohibited by road signs. He added that those who are operating their vehicles for profits without necessary permits because it is illegal and those who are caught will face the full might of the law.There is a possibility of causing conflicts and tensions between private motorists and taxi drivers. Severe injuries and deaths can be caused while they battle over the hitchhikers with private vehicles.

EK hou nie van politiek nie, want ek beskou dit as ’n vuil spel deurspek met leuens gebaseer op onuitvoerbare beloftes. Maar ek hou dinge met belangstelling dop. Die huidige Amerikaanse politiek met Donald Trump se opmars is baie interessant. Mense sê hy is ’n akteur en werf stemme met sy kontroversiële stellings. Hy is beslis nie polities korrek nie, wat hom in my opinie meer statuur gee. Hy is ’n suksesvolle sakeman, ken van bestuur en kan duidelik mense motiveer. Konserwatief en redelik regs, verstom hy almal met sy politieke stormloop.Hy neem sterk standpunte in en sê wat gesê moet word, sonder vrees. ’n Yster in my boek.Indien hy die presidentskap wen, sal hy egter meer gematig raak, want dit wat ’n regering kan doen en wat hy wil doen is nie dieselfde ding nie. Realisme sal intree. Wat insiggewend is, is die publieke steun wat hy geniet. Sien ons hier ’n swaai onder die houding van mense? Miskien is die Amerikaanse bevolking moeg vir die lamlendigheid en papbroekigheid van hulle leiers.Ons sien dieselfde hier in SA. Malema se wilde en vurige uitsprake lok skares. Anders as Trump sal Malema egter nie regkom nie. Sy beleid sal alle investering wegjaag en die ekonomie verwoes. Maar sy aanhangers verstaan dit nie. Hulle wil nie verstaan nie. Die DA sal investering kan bewerkstellig, maar sy politiek is net effe makker as die van die ANC, met (hopelik) beter bestuur. Die VF+ en ACDP is die enigste partye met beginsels. Hulle uitsprake is nie altyd polities korrek nie, maar realisties. Ongelukkig is ons mense nie Amerikaners nie en hou hulle van die leuens en politieke korrektheid van die groot partye. Hulle is in elk geval God verlate, luister net na Piet Croucamp.Ek het nog ’n gewete. Ek maak foute maar ek probeer lewe volgens ’n etiese, eerlike en morele kode waar ek kan. Ek sal dus maar soos altyd my geld op die klein buiteperd sit, want ek voel lekker daaroor.

Ek glo nie dit is billik dat persone wat nie registreer en stem nie, jou 12 uur in die aand wakker bel en kla oor swak dienslewering en selfs op jou skel nie.

Thaba Chweu bestaan uit Lydenburg, Pelgrimsrus, Graskop en Sabie, asook omliggende landelike gebiede. In Thaba Chweu het daar tot op hede 51 500 kiesers geregistreer. Miskien is die grootste skande van Suid-Afrika na 1994 die munisipale-bedeling. Dorpe is saamgevoeg en metrorade is gestig maar al wat verbeter is, is die vergoeding van raadslede en top amptenare. Die VF+ se ondersteuning van toelae kan moeilik verwesenlik word solank munisipale rade die mees onbekwame vlak van regering is. Munisipale gebiede is so groot dat

dit nie meer regering op voetsoolvlak is nie. Die bestuurslui en selfs raadslede wat plaaslik ontplooi word het dikwels min met die gemeenskap wat hulle dien in gemeen. Die VF+ beywer hom nie vir plaaslike regering in posisies aangestel waarvoor hulle bloot nie toegerus is nie. Dit skep spanning by die persoon self en lei tot onproduktiwiteit. Dan is daar baie uiters bekwames, maar die wolk van twyfel hang oor so iemand. Was dit dalk ’n regstellende aanstelling? Dit is bitter onregverdig teenoor hierdie bekwame mense. Die bekwames in bewind behoort aktief bygestaan te word. Na 28 jaar in die politieke arena is ek bewus daarvan dat politiek wreed en genadeloos is. Op ’n onlangse plaaslike VF+ bestuursvergadering is daar besluit dat daar geen karaktermoord, geskinder of enige benadeling teen geen kandidate van ander partye gedoen sal word nie. Soos hulle in rugby noem gaan die VF+ nie die man speel nie, maar die bal. Lees die advertensie op bladsy 3 en besluit self vir wie u wil stem.

NISSAN has officially taken the wraps off the new Kicks, and the latest compact crossover from the Japanese automaker is heading for South Africa.Measuring around 4,3 metres in length, the Kicks – which draws styling cues from the original concept unveiled at the Sao Paulo Motor Show back in 2014 – is some 160 mm longer than the Nissan Juke. This sees it slot into the crossover line-up below the Qashqai.Sales of the new model are scheduled to begin in Brazil in August, with Latin American left-hand drive markets to follow later in 2016.Nissan says the Kicks will ultimately be introduced to more than 80 markets around the world, with South Africa excepted to receive its first shipment some time in 2018.The newcomer features plenty of Nissan’s established design signatures, including the “V-motion” grille, boomerang headlamps and taillights, and floating roof. IT is the biggest event in the Volkswagen fan boys’ calendar – a week at the Wörthersee tuning festival in Austria to see the latest and greatest Volkswagens. They’ve been coming out for 35 years to this particular event, and each year VW plans something a little special for all the fans. The plan on this auspicious anniversary is to steal the show with a special S version of the already mega Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport. So what’s the deal with the GTI Clubsport S, I’m guessing more power. Marking the 40-year anniversary of the iconic Golf GTI moniker, the S will pack a tuned-up version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder from the current Golf R – sporting 228kW (up from 195kW in the regular Clubsport) to be exact, for its limited production run (said to be limited to only 5000 units). By comparison, the Golf R only has 218kW, in Europe. More than that, the Clubsport S

will probably benefit from a healthy diet as far as a new exhaust system and the removal of extraneous equipment (the back seats and most sound deadening) to bring overall weight down low.In addition to this a Clubsport S has been spotted testing around the infamous Nurburgring proving ground in preparation for its big festival reveal. HAVE you heard about the Internet of Things? Don’t worry, up to now I haven’t either. The simple explanation is that any device (Thing) with connectivity can connect to another Thing and they can talk to each other, through the Internet. The first example of such a Thing was the common ATM, used by banks everywhere. But now, cars are connected and Google already has a fleet of self drive cars in operation. Your TV will talk to your network provider and tell it what programs you are watching. Your fridge will sense when the milk is almost finished and will order milk from your favourite grocer, which will be delivered promptly by courier or an autonomous vehicle.You will be able during your workday to via your smart phone tell your microwave when and how to cook the food placed in the oven. It will be able to through your phone, tell a Thing to feed your pets, start the automatic vacuum cleaner, switch on the aircon and dim the lights while you are still at work.With smartphones and GPS technology using millions of Apps you are already using the Internet of Things without even realising it. You are doing your banking, paying people and so on without getting up from your favourite chair. Your lawnmower will mow your lawn when moisture content in the grass is at optimum level and it will not crash into your flowerbeds

or fences. Farmers are already ploughing fields without a driver on the tractor precisely and while sipping a beer on his stoep, the farmer can check real time fuel consumption, engine temperature etc. on his phone. It will call a mechanic without the farmer knowing it. All of these technologies already exist and is not a figment of someone’s imagination. Progress is growing daily. We are a bit behind in Africa, as these Things require broadband and unlimited wireless data Internet. Here in South Africa we still cannot get textbooks to kids on time. Traditional jobs and technologies are becoming obsolete. Joblessness will skyrocket. However, lots of very highly trained systems engineers will be required to fix these Things, as they can and will break. They will however diagnose their own problems / faults, so the technician will only be a part fitter.And you thought Big Brother or the Bilderbergers or Freemasons were controlling the world! Sorry to disappoint you. There is no such thing, only a bunch of 17 year olds inventing Things everywhere, hacking into computers and adding their Thing to the system. Welcome to the future! As for me, I am too old. I will get onto my single cylinder bike without ABS and Traction Control and just ride off into the sunset....Andre Coetzee

COMPLIANCE costs are likely to be huge. Meeting the 25% ownership requirement is already likely to require BEE deals valued at R2 trillion, as the National Empowerment Fund estimated in 2007. If the ownership target is to be doubled, the value of the necessary deals may have to double too. However, allocating so much scarce capital to BEE deals will hardly help to improve infrastructure, increase employment, or enhance competitiveness.In addition, if many more BEE ownership deals have to be done, existing shareholders, many of them institutional investors such as pension funds, will find their holdings diluted even further. Hence, much of the costs of enriching a small group of BEE beneficiaries will again be borne by ordinary savers and pensioners, many of them black.In addition, the more a 51% BEE ownership requirement is imposed, the more this will amount to an indirect or regulatory expropriation. However, no compensation will be payable for this under the definition of expropriation in the Expropriation Bill of 2015 soon to be put before the National Council of Provinces for adoption. This erosion of property rights will further undermine the investment climate.Moreover, if BEE ownership is to be raised to 51%, this will generally imply a loss of current majority control. This is likely to be particularly damaging to business confidence and investor sentiment.As Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote warned in 2013, even a 25% BEE ownership requirement is enough to deter FDI. In his words, a BEE ownership requirement is like ‘a forced marriage’, in which a business must partner with ‘someone who may not have the same appetite’ and ‘who does not have the equity behind them’ to make a real

contribution.Adds Dangote: ‘The whole world needs capital. If you make it difficult for me to invest in one country, then I will move my capital somewhere else where it is easier to invest. In Nigeria, we used to have these laws demanding that any investor had to have a Nigerian partner. But that just dried up the capital flows.Since even a 25% BEE ownership requirement is enough to deter foreign investors, pressure for 51% BEE ownership will clearly be even more inimical to FDI. What foreign investor will want to come to South Africa if this implies the loss of ownership and control under an effective indigenisation requirement? Yet South Africa urgently needs FDI for increased growth, as its own savings rate (at roughly 15% of GDP) is far too limited to fund essential fixed investments in electricity generation, transport logistics, and social infrastructure such as hospitals and schools.Moreover, with South Africa already standing on the brink of recession, the regulatory shackles on business must be lightened, not made heavier still. Instead of constantly increasing the BEE burden, it is time for the DTI to call a halt.BEE has failed in its objectives. It needs urgently to be replaced by a new system of ‘ e c o n o m i c e m p o w e r m e n t f o r t h e disadvantaged’ or EED. This would shift away from the current narrow focus on redistributing a static, if not shrinking, economic pie. Instead, EED would put a necessary emphasis on rapid economic growth, excellent education, and much more employment as the most effective and sus ta inab le means o f i nc reas ing opportunities for all.
