Nancy passed awayThursday, November 20,2014 at Bronson Hospitalin Kalamazoo. She wasborn June 2, 1947 in Alle-gan, the daughter of Lav-ern and Helen (Germain)

Lindsey. Nancy was a 1965 Otsego HighSchool graduate. She started working indietary service at Plainwell Pines NursingHome and later became a nurses aide atAlamo Nursing Home for over 15 years.Nancy enjoyed going to church and hav-ing coffee and lunch with her friends. Sur-viving are her daughter, Kristy (Matt)VanBeek of Plainwell; grandsons, Bren-nan VanBeek and Hayden VanBeek; sis-ter, Kay Connor of Allegan; sister-in-law,Diana Turner; mother-in-law, VeraGwilliams; several aunts, uncles, cousins,special friend, Ardis Wright of Allegan andher caretaker, Lou Phelps. She was pre-ceded in death by her parents. A funeralwas held Monday, November 24th at the

Winkel Funeral Homewith Pastor Sean Kidd officiating. Crema-tion followed. Contributions in memory ofNancy may be made to the AmericanStroke Foundation.

Deborah Knight of Ot-sego passed away Sun-day, November 23, 2014in Kalamazoo. Deb wasborn July 25, 1955 in Al-legan to Earl and Frances(Otten) Blanchard and

was a lifelong resident of the area. For 22years Deb was employed with MCTI asaccounts payable supervisor. In herleisure time she enjoyed bowling, reading,casinos, playing cards, bingo andhaunted houses on Halloween. Deb lovedplanning the annual Knight family treasurehunt. On January 7, 1972 in Otsego shemarried Bruce Knight, who survives. Alsosurviving are her children, Jeff (Kim)Knight and Jody (Jim Leonard) Sebright,both of Otsego; six grandchildren, Taylor,Sam, Kyllee, Courtney, Bailey and Han-nah; her brother, Allan (Linda) Blanchardof Otsego; several nieces and nephews.Preceding her in death were her father in1975, her mother in 2011 and her sister,Shirley, in 2009. A funeral service washeld Wednesday, November 26th at theUnited Methodist Church of Otsego withPastor Joe Shaler ofciating. Burial fol-lowed at Mountain Home Cemetery, Ot-sego. Contributions in memory of Debmay be made to Cancer Treatment Cen-ters of America.

AGE 57 NILESJames passed away suddenly, but of nat-ural causes, on Wednesday, November19, 2014, at Lakeland Hospital in St.Joseph, Michigan. He was born on Feb-ruary 16, 1957 in Martin, Michigan andraised by his mother Elizabeth Ann (Lee)Clark. James graduated from Martin HighSchool and soon after joined the U.S.Navy, where he served his countryproudly during the Vietnam War. Aftermany years of service, James receivedhis honorable discharge. He worked as afabricator and welder for Fab-N-WeldSheetmetal in Berrien Springs. He alsoenjoyed his work with the APA PoolLeague. James was so loyal to employ-ers; many would say he had an addictionto work. He also loved riding his Harleywith his friends, bowling, golng, shootingpool, playing video games, spending timewith family and friends and weekendbreakfast with Doc and Kay. He also likedquiet time, sitting in a chair with a LouieLAmour book. In 1982 James marriedPamela Wery and to that union a sonJustin was born. Although the marriageended a few years later, the two of themremained lifelong friends. Sometime later,James married Susan Harris and helpedraise her daughters as if they were hisown. He was preceded in death by hismother Elizabeth A. Clark, a brother JoeRocha and a son Travis Thompson.James is survived by his son Justin Payne(Ellen VanKirk) of Niles, three daughters;Nikki Tittle-Chapman of St. Joe, JesikaChester of Niles and Mindy Templeton-Ruiz of Elkhart, three nieces Crystal, Eliz-abeth and Heather Rocha, and agrandfather to Gillian, Breeanna andTravis, as well as countless friends. Atime of visitation to celebrate James lifewill be held on Sunday, November 30thfrom 5:00pm until 7:00pm at

WHY JESUS CAME(First in an Advent series)

For the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost - Luke l9:10

There is a very revealing statement in Luke l5:1 asfollows: Now tax collectors and sinners were allgathered around to hear him. It tells us Jesus (as Hiscritics pointed out) was a friend of sinners (Luke l5:2) which explains why they loved Him so much.

Rather than condemn persons as hopelesssinners, Jesus thought of them as persons who hadlost their way. Examples: A sheep was lost through other interests (Luke l5:3-7) A coin was lost through idleness (Luke l5:8-10) A son was lost through selfish desires (Luke l5:11-24) Another son was lost through envy and resentment

(Luke l5:25-32) A tax collector was lost through greed and

dishonesty (Luke l9:1-9)The story is told of a teenage girl who ran away

from home. Her parents were hopeful when newscame she was seen in Dallas, Texas. The girls fatherand pastor went looking for her, day and night, butcould not find her. So they gave up searching for her.A few days later, however, she surfaced inWashington, D.C.

She had heard somehow that her father waslooking for her. Touched by his love, she called himwanting to go home. Her father was on the next flightto bring her back.The point: God sent Jesus into the world to bring

us home to God. And that is why Jesus came. Good news: He is looking for you!

Prayer: Here I am, Lord, I am coming home to You.Amen.
