Richard B. ‘Rip’ ROUSEAge - 89 – OTSEGO

Richard passedaway Monday, Jan-uary 20, 2014 at LifeCare Center ofPlainwell. He wasborn September 25, 1924 inKalamazoo, the son of Clairand Frances (Wood) Rouse.

He was a 1943 graduate of Otsego HighSchool and served in the U. S. Army at theBattle of the Bulge during WW II. Rip wasa member of Otsego Elks Lodge #1711BPOE, a life member of VFW Post #3030and former member of the Otsego Congre-gational Church. Rip was an electricianwith Hammond Machinery for over 27years. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, travel-ing, and doing yard work. After retirement,Rip and Marie spent several winters in GulfShores, AL. On August 1, 1947, in Otsego,he married Marie H. Cooley, who survives.Also surviving are a son, Rex (Mary) Rouseof Otsego; a son-in-law, David Goff ofCentreville; 3 grandchildren, Richard (Jes-sica) Rouse of FL, Tiffany Rouse of Ot-sego, Dave (Amy) Goff of Battle Creek; 3great grandchildren, Dillon Goff, JacobGoff and Sylvia Marie Rouse; a sisterRachel (Burton) Smith of Plainwell; severalnieces and nephews. He was preceded indeath by a son ‘Ronnie’ Rouse in 1963, adaughter, Gail Goff in 2013; brother Fay in2005 and a sister Barbara Cowles. Crema-tion has taken place. A memorial servicewill be announced in the spring. Contribu-tions in memory of Rip may be made toVFW Post #3030.

I have made known to you” (John l5:15)What would you do for a friend?The answer is found in Mark 1:1-12. When word getsout that Jesus is home, the crowds gather to a houseto see Him and hear Him. They fill the house and spilloutside.

A paralytic is brought on a mat carried by fourfriends. As Jesus is preaching, an interesting thinghappens. The friends make an opening in the roofand the man is lowered through the roof so Jesus canheal Him. Jesus is so impressed by their faith theman’s sins are forgiven and his body healed. Hiscritics are upset. And the crowds are amazed at whatthey see.

There are several stories within the story: (l) Jesus’Power to Forgive Sins and to Heal (2) Jesus AnswersHis Critics (3) Turning Interruptions into Opportunities(4) A Story about Friendship.Let’s talk about friendship.Here are some take-aways:

• A true friend would do anything to help you.• A true friend is sensitive, compassionate,
