* Additional training time per event.** Self-preparation and study time for academic and flight
support may include audio-visual training aids.*** Additional training time per curriculum hour.
a. Administrative Time. Transit time from activity toactivity, meals, scheduling delays and military watch standingduties are not considered. The IUT-training week is based on 6hours of training per day, 5 days a week (30 hours).
Computation of curriculum time is based on the following formula:ch = Curriculum hourse = Eventsk = Additional training time per curriculum hour or eventTc = Total curriculum time
ch + (ch x k) or (e x k) = Tc (days) or (weeks)6 (hrs per day) or 30 (hrs per week)
CNATRAINST 1542.139
10 October 2000
14
The Tc calculated is the total contact time required to completethe phase of training.
b. Time To Train (Tt). The following factors areconsidered in computing time to train: weather, unsatisfactoryevents and associated delays, medical groundings, and flight orsimulator events canceled due to lack of instructor or equipmentavailability. The combination of these factors constitutesadditional time required to train expressed as a percentage (∆t)of the curriculum time (Tc). The ∆t for the T-45A JetTransition Strike Flight Instructor Training Curriculum is 15.0%.The formula for computing time to train (Tt) is as follows:
Tc + (Tc X ∆t) = Tt
T-45A JET TRANSITION/BASIC INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATION TIME TO TRAIN(MODULES 00 THROUGH 04)
Training AreaTraining Training CalendarDays Weeks Weeks
Flight: 62.5 hours 41.3 8.3 9.157 events
Simulator: OFT 15.0 hours 6.8 1.4 1.513 events

The conversion of time to train to approximate calendar days canbe calculated using the following formula:
Tt = Approximate Calendar Days*working days/days per year
To convert to calendar weeks: Calendar days = Calendar weeks7 days/week
97* = Calendar days 149 Days = 21 Calendar weeks237/365 7

1. IUT TRAINING OBJECTIVES. The T-45A Jet Transition StrikeFlight Instructor Training Curriculum is designed to satisfyeight training objectives, which results in the transition ofthe IUT into a jet aircraft instructor, capable of teaching Navytactical flying skills. Standards of military decorum expectedof all naval officers, as defined in prior training directives, will be observed on a daily basis. The goal of all T-45A flightinstructors under training is to meet the appropriate terminallearning objectives within the specified flight hour andcalendar day limitations. Upon satisfactory completion of thecurriculum, the IUT will be able to fulfill the following taskobjectives:
a. Aviation. Instruct student naval aviators (SNAs) incontrolling the aircraft dual or solo, day and night, in variousmeteorological conditions and stages of flight as required.Aircraft control must be maintained while meeting all otherobjectives.
b. Navigation. Instruct SNAs in maintaining aircraftposition within a desired geographical area or along a desiredground track using visually acquired landmarks, aircraftinstalled electronic equipment, aeronautical charts, voicecommunications with controlling agencies, and dead reckoningtechniques while complying with Federal Aviation Regulations andstandard operating procedures.
c. Communications. Instruct SNAs in communicating clearlywith ground facilities and with other aircraft using approvedradio procedures, and light, hand, or aircraft maneuveringsignals as appropriate.
d. Systems Management. Instruct SNAs in the management ofaircraft flight, communications, navigation, and weaponsdelivery systems as required for successful mission completion.
e. Flight Planning. Instruct SNAs in planning the safeconduct of each flight from preflight to mission completion, considering pilot, aircraft, and weather limitations.
f. Headwork. Ensure SNAs demonstrate understanding ofaerodynamics, navigation, communications, systems management, and planning principles by the exercise of sound judgment whileaccomplishing all training objectives. Compliance with all
