Back to Scotland

Mary’s return to Scotland was wet and wild. It rained for 2 days before she arrived and 2 days afterwards. By this time, Scots had begun to question the catholic religion.

Henry Darnley

Mary’s 2nd marriage was to Henry Darnley. More and more people hated Mary. Eventually, when Darnley murdered Mary’s secretary, David Rizzio, Mary lost all love for Henry. Then, one night, when Mary was at a ball, the house Darnley was in blew up. Many people suspect Mary for the death.

Castles

Kings and Queens always lived in castles. The main part of the castle was the donjon, a huge hall with private rooms for the lords family. The weakest part of the castle was the gate so it was defended by a drawbridge and a small building called a barbican. The attackers would have to capture this before assaulting the castle.

Mary Queen of Scots Poem

Mary was a queen As you have seen

Her birth was great And soon she found a mate

She became Queen of France When she lost her romance

When she returned to homeland By then John Knox had formed a protestant band

He tried to get her of the throneBut Mary was as strong as boneThe axe had used three swings

Until her head and heart stings
