Dear readers,

Welcome to our October issue of ABODE magazine.

I hope your Eid Al-Adha celebrations were pleasant and full of joy and that if you travelled outside of Doha this Eid, it was a wonderful, relaxing break.

We have, again, been working tirelessly to put together a new issue and this month we are happy to showcase the latest collection by Antonio Croce on

our cover, shot by the talented photographer Nina Benati. We are in the throes of fall and are approaching the end of fashion week- a truly creative

period in the industry. Look out for our guide to everything Spring/Summer 2017 and the latest trends due to hit stores next year.

Our beauty editor Sharice Tan, teaches us how to cut our hair at home, treat our skin with nourishing face masks as well as treatments using home

ingredients and 1000-year-old concoctions.

We are also paying homage to breast cancer awareness this month with our beauty box dedicated purely to pink cosmetics as a way to create awareness about the deadly disease. Please remember that care is absolute- prevention

is the ideal. So be sure to get regular checkups and be safe, not sorry!

This month we are travelling to the luxurious location of Monaco- a small city state situated in the south of France where we will be discovering beautiful places to dine out with friends and family, fun places to take your children

and opulent hotels to rest your head at night.

On that note, I would like to wish you a wonderful October, we hope you continue to make use of each moment you have to better yourself and the

lives of those you love.

JEWELLERY EDIT

RALPHMASRI

The Master Jewellerof the Middle East

REVIVING AN ANCIENT ALPHABET:

INTRODUCING THE NEW PHOENICIAN SCRIPT COLLECTION.

Following his acclaimed 2015 collection Sacred Windows, Ralph Masri has the pleasure

of introducing his brand new fine jewellery collection entitled Phoenician Script, inspired

by letters of the ancient Phoenician alphabet. Phoenician Script reflects Masri’s enduring

fascination with history and his desire to lend an architectural perspective to his classically

sculpted heirloom pieces.

ABODE OCTOBER 2016.indd 6 9/26/16 12:07 PM

Page 9: 10- ABODE - Oct 2016

Documented as early as 1050 BC, the Phoenician alphabet is one of the earliest scripts to be discovered and referenced as the origin source of Latin, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew and even influencing many written scripts of India and East Asia.

As the alphabet was typically incised with a stylus constructed from reeds, its shape was uniquely angular and straight. Setting diamonds and coloured gems into 18ct white, rose and yellow gold, Masri brings this written script to life with the pairing of unusual colours, creating dimension while retaining the stylus-inscribed calligraphic quality and uniquely prehistoric essence.

Pear-shaped sapphires, rubies and citrines perfectly set into the angles add an exquisite statement without disrupting the flow of his cleverly constructed geometry. With timelessness and heritage at heart, Phoenician Script is an evolution of Masri’s vision to create generational heirlooms that dazzle with sophistication and a cultural point of view – especially reflective of his Oriental roots.

PUTTING A PRICE TAG ON

Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, or Prada; let’s face it: we all want to a have a closet filled with leather goods signed by these aforementioned luxury labels. However, as time passes and as the years go by, consumers continue to notice ever rising price increases for these coveted pieces. ABODE takes a closer look at what factors drive these unstoppable surges and sheds some light on the most coveted luxury handbags in the business.

A Himalayan crocodile Birkin and a barbie-pink crocodile skin Birkin were recently sold for over QR 1,092,400 each during different auctions that took place around the world. The price tags of these two handbags can be alternatively used to buy a luxurious villa in Bali, five new models of BMW X5 Jeeps, and pay for two or three children’s college tuition. Last year, the Hermes Birkin bag officially became the world’s most expensive handbag thanks to limited edition pieces that take months to make, feature diamond encrusted hardware and include hundreds of carats of diamonds. In fact, this bag is so exclusive to the point where it has been rumored for years that only 10 craftsmen know how to manufacture a Hermes Birkin. The Business of Fashion reports that Hermes even increased the price of the Birkin by 60% in the past decade- prices now start at QR 27,600 and can go up to hundreds of thousands for the more exclusive one-off models. The reason why these goods are so expensive, though, is down to a few factors:

Production Costs: Costs of producing luxury handbags start from the design studio and go all the way to the delivery of the product in store as well as the cost of real estate and sales

advisors’ salaries. If you add the raw materials and manufacturing costs, as well huge budgets for marketing, most brands report a gross production margin of about 65%. Raw material costs have become a huge concern for luxury labels: in addition to the scarcity of a lot of material nowadays, cattle prices have risen

by 7.3% in recent

years. To limit these hefty expenses, brands such as Louis Vuitton and Hermes have decided controversially to invest in Australian crocodile farms to ensure a constant supply.

Perception and Brand Image: While Burberry has declared that it will increase its prices to attract new wealthier customers, Chanel has stated that in order to remain exclusive, it will increase the price of its iconic flap bag every year. After years and years in the market, brands have come to understanding that the more expensive something is, the more exclusive, and thus desirable it is.

The Fear of Mark-downs: While brands such as Louis Vuitton and Hermes never place their merchandise on mark-downs, other high-end labels propose price cuts in order to clear inventory and make way for a new season. Due to the reces-sion all over the world, customers wait longer to buy luxury leather goods, thus forcing department stores to provide dis-counts up to 70% off. To avoid a decrease in profit, some brands have decid-ed to increase their selling price to save on losing profits once the discount period starts.

The Demand is still there: The rich are getting richer; recent reports

confirm that the world is overflowing with over 12 million individuals who share a wealth of over $46 trillion combined. Luxury brands have taken note of this and thus, continue to increase their prices.

The need to cover other brand costs: When Louis Vuitton splurges over QR 1,092,400 on a single 15-minute runway show, this money needs to come back somehow. Luxury labels know that leather goods, shoes, and cosmetics bring in the big money and can cover the high costs placed on brand image maintenance and less successful brand lines, namely, clothes.

HERMES

CHANELSpeedy

Though introduced in the 1930s, the Louis Vuitton

"Speedy 300" had a surprisingly youthful look and is still widely popular nowadays. The bag is also known to be reliable for travel and is widely accepted as an “affordable” luxury item. Starting price is around QR 3,500 although special editions can cost up to QR 9,000.

Get to Know the Luxury Industry’s Most Iconic Handbags:

The Birkin

Hermes makes the list again with the signature “Birkin” bag that was first introduced in 1981. Inspired by and named after singer Jane Birkin, this iconic bag is similar to the “Kelly”, but is larger in size. Want to include it in your wardrobe? Well brace yourself; the waiting list to own a Birkin is up to SIX years! A new Birkin will set you back QR 47,000 while a pre-owned one retails for about QR 36,500.

The “Kelly” bag

Possibly one of the most iconic handbags of all time, this sublime piece was first introduced in the 1930s. The bag’s original name was changed to the “Kelly” in 1956, soon after Princess Grace of Monaco was spotted holding it to shield her pregnancy away from the prying eyes of paparazzi. This Hermes icon is one of the first truly modern bags and is considered by many as the “ideal day bag”. Want to own one? Then you better start saving! The Kelly’s starting price is QR 27,600 and goes all the way up to QR 58,000!

Lady Dior Cannage Tote

While on a trip to Paris in the 90s, the late Princess Diana fell in love with this handbag. Since then, this iconic bag became known as the “Lady D” or “Lady Dior”. “Cannage” refers to the type of stitching that makes the bag look the way it does. Today, Dior introduced a smaller sized version of Lady Dior and added a shoulder strap for better support. The massive French house’s iconic bag retails for about QR 9,000.

The 2.55 flap bag

Generally labelled as way ahead of her time, Coco Chanel didn’t want to carry a bag by hand anymore and created the strap instead. This accessory accompanied the introduction of the Chanel 2.55 Flap Bag in 1955. This iconic bag provides instant sophistication and poise and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. These days, this high-end piece is available in a variety of colours and retails at a starting price of QR 10,000.

Fun Fact! Rumour has it that the bag’s zip compartment was used by Coco Chanel to hide her lover's secret letters.

It’s been 17 years since Victoria Adams married David Beckham, becoming

Mrs Victoria Beckham, and leading the genetically blessed twosome to take the

world by storm with their football/pop star-turned-fashion-designer combo. The Beckhams are practically

royalty to the extent that they were once dubbed the most famous “brand” in Britain. They always seem to make a splash in every single country they set foot in, and with Victoria’s current A-list fashion designer status, this couple shows no sign of slowing down. So, in honour of Posh and Becks’ 17 years of togetherness, here are 17 of their best (and cutest!) fashion moments together!

17YEARS OFPOSH & BECKS

1998Victoria and David were snapped on one of their first dates together in 1998. Take a look at David in slides and what looks like a sarong wrapped around his waist- what a far cry away from his major fashion moments!

2006 As David grew his hair out, Victoria switched things up and went for a dark pixie haircut as both continued to rule Madrid.

They’re ENGAGED! A few days after David popped the question, Victoria flaunted her major sparkler while wearing a black leather trim coat as David looked on in matching black. Look how young they both were!

1999Posh and Becks gave new meaning to “all black everything” by slipping into his and hers matching Versace leather bodysuits in 1999. You really just can’t turn your head away from this fashion crime!

2000 David and Victoria say “I Do” in a lavish ceremony that took place in 2000. Victoria wore a custom made strapless Vera Wang design and accessorised with a mini tiara and a floral bouquet accentuated with red apples. David was the perfect match in a cream-coloured suit.

2003 A few years later, David and Victoria brought out their Sunday best to Buckingham Palace on the day David was given the title of “Officer of the British Empire”. Becks’ dapper suit may have just been overshadowed by Victoria’s extravagant fascinator! 2007 The Beckhams go blond! 2 kids and a

move to Madrid later, Posh and Becks both chopped their hair off and started sporting lighter colours; Victoria went for a golden shade, while hubby David ventured into a grey blond. Needless to say, the power couple was spotted at every major event in the Spanish capital.

The Beckhams continued to rule the British capital with their envious jet-set lifestyle and perfect hair.

2011 While pregnant with daughter Harper, Victoria and David attended Prince William and HRH Catherine Middleton’s royal wedding in London. David looked sharp in a tux while Victoria showed off her pregnancy glow in a minimalistic navy dress from her own line and matched it with a fascinator and towering Louboutins.

2014 David and Victoria celebrated 15 years of togetherness by attending 2014’s MET Gala. Victoria shined in a simple white column dress by her label, while David followed suit in a matching white blazer and black pants.

2016 Fresh off the news of her new makeup line in collaboration with Estee Lauder, Victoria is featured on the cover of British Vogue’s October 2016 issue- a year that also marks her 17th wedding anniversary with David. Inside the mag, Posh wrote a letter to her 18-year-old self, entitled “What I wish I’d known” and featured a heartfelt declaration that “love, at first sight, does exist. It will happen to you in the Manchester United players’ lounge”. She also writes “…you will see David standing aside with his family. (He’s not even in the first team at this stage- you are the famous one.) And he has such a cute smile. You, too, are close to your family, and you will think how similar he feels to you.”

What a wonderful way to celebrate 17 years with the man you love! Here’s to many more years of Posh and Becks because- what would we do without them?

2013The gorgeous

couple has graced the

covers of countless

magazines over the years.

Here, they seem picture perfect on the cover of Vogue Paris as they continue

their world domination.

2012 No better place to be seen than at the Vanity Fair Oscar party! In 2012, Posh & Becks attended the lavish after-party looking like movie stars! Victoria wowed in a military inspired column gown from her line, while David was his handsome self in a black suit and bow tie.

2015 The Beckhams have been long known to top almost every guest list out there; the entire family was seated front row at Burberry’s

“London in Los Angeles” fashion show that was held in Los Angeles in 2015.

The genetically gifted pair proudly showed off the latest addition to their family; an adorable daughter named Harper! The little one was seen travelling all over the world with her famous parents.

The beautiful family attended the Viva Forever musical in London in late 2013. Victoria stood out in yet another ensemble from her own design and stunned as she proudly looked on to her husband and three boys – who were dressed in suits.

This couple is here to stay: Victoria gets playful with her hubby as they walk down the red carpet at the 60th London Evening Standard Theatre Awards red carpet; him in a navy blue tux and her in a classic black strapless jumpsuit.

H&M and Kenzo are both names synonymous with pushing boundaries and encouraging their clientele to explore their

personal sense of style and go against the grain. In this exclusive interview with ABODE, Kenzo creative directors Humberto Leon

and Carol Lim tell us about their new collaboration with H&M and how, through keeping with founder Kenzō Takada’s vision,

they’re going to make this the most covetable collaboration yet.

ABODE: What made you want to collaborate with H&M?

Humberto Leon: We love how much fun you can have with an H&M collaboration. It’s an opportunity to do something big and bold that people can afford. We looked back at past H&M collaborations and saw how much fun they had, like the amazing wedding dress they did with Viktor & Rolf.

Carol Lim: We queued up for the very first H&M collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld. I remember waiting in line for it outside the SoHo H&M store in New York. I remember how everyone was so excited, the energy was crazy. We wanted to give people the chance to have the same fun with KENZO.

ABODE: What’s the idea behind the KENZO x H&M collection?

Humberto Leon: We wanted to make this like a three-dimensional conversation between us and what Kenzo Takada had started. We’ve

never really played with the archives at KENZO, and we felt it was a great opportunity to storytell and have some fun. We wanted to do something totally unique with this H&M collaboration and look at the history of the brand through 21st-century eyes.

Carol Lim: There are a lot of young people who think Humberto and I started KENZO five years ago. They don’t know the story of Kenzo Takada, and how revolutionary his fashion was in 1970s Paris. He was making clothing for women to wear that was fun and exciting, breaking the rules with total freedom. It was pure fashion to wear in everyday life, and it’s still very relevant today.

ABODE: How did you bring together your world with the archives for KENZO x H&M?

Humberto Leon: KENZO x H&M is even more playful and proud than anything we’ve done with KENZO before. We’ve approached it a little differently than the work we do at the brand because it gives us the

chance to dream and think about pure fashion. We wanted to take our prints, Kenzo Takada’s prints, our look, his look, and to say that anything goes, clash it all, have fun. The great thing is none of this existed in our line before. We truly designed this collection for H&M in its purest form. For us, it’s exciting because maybe you’ve bought from our KENZO collections before, or you once bought from Kenzo Takada’s collections, but you definitely wouldn’t have any of this.

Carol Lim: Every piece is a conversation between us and Kenzo Takada. Nothing is taken directly from the archives, whether we’ve used our prints for an iconic style, or refreshed the design to make it part of our world. I love that this conversation is taking place across four decades, and yet it feels so alive and relevant for today.

ABODE: Can you talk us through some of the key women’s pieces?

Carol Lim: They’re all key pieces! If I had to pick, I’d say the ribbon dress is one of the most collectable in the collection. It’s an iconic style, and yet Kenzo Takada only ever made two of them, one of which we have in the archives. I love what a strong statement it is. It’s a tiered dress entirely made from ribbons woven in the different prints of the collection, trimmed with black lace. Then there're the kimonos, which we’ve made reversible, and I love the off-the-shoulder leopard print top and long skirt. I love its playfulness and movement. I love the faux fur pieces, it’s really hard to choose!

Humberto Leon: The whole collection is playful. We’ve made a shorter, lighter version of the ribbon dress too, and I love how so many of the pieces are like mash-ups of different prints and ideas. Details were so important to Kenzo Takada, and in this collection I love all the little antiqued flower buttons that fasten mandarin collars, or the embroidered patches we’ve used for the logo sweatshirts. We wanted every piece to matter, and for everyone to feel like they’ve got something special from KENZO x H&M.

ABODE: What are the key pieces in the men’s collection?

Humberto Leon: The men’s collection is full of big, bold fashion ideas. We wanted to push the prints, the colours and the clashes and make some major statements. I love the reversible trench that you can unzip the bottom panel to turn it into a bomber, or the fake fur top that’s like a fun take on outdoors wear. The details are super important, like the printed performance zips that are like borders on the multi-print down jacket, or the beaded logo on a sweatshirt, or the silicon and woven medallion patches on a chunky knit.

Carol Lim: We know that men want to have as much fun with fashion as women. This collaboration with H&M was a great opportunity to show that on such a global platform, and to be expressive and proud with men’s style. What’s great about this collection is that men can take pieces from it and wear them in their own way. We’ve always believed that people should interpret fashion for themselves, and this is the perfect collection of statement pieces to mix in so you can play with your everyday wardrobe.

ABODE: Who is the KENZO x H&M collection for?

Carol Lim: We wanted KENZO x H&M to speak across the generations. We love that there’ll be 15-year-old kids who’ll be wearing KENZO for the first time, alongside 20 or 30-year-olds who’ve been making KENZO part of their wardrobe since Humberto and I started at the label. Then there’ll be those who were lucky enough to have been alive during the time of Kenzo Takada, who’ll come to the collection for a taste of their heritage, and to wear the prints and styles that they once loved all over again.

Humberto Leon: We look at this collaboration as a celebration. It’s a celebration of the work of Kenzo Takada, but also a celebration of fashion and the joy that you can have with what you wear. It’s amazing that it’s on such a global platform, a celebration taking place all around the world at the same moment. We want to think big, make a bold statement, do the unexpected. There are so many surprises to come in the months ahead as we tell the story of KENZO x H&M.

ANTONIO CROCETHE FALL/WINTER 2016

COLLECTIONShot on location in Milan, ItalyPhotography by Nima Benati

Independent and contemporary, yet at the same time romantic and sensual, the Antonio Croce woman is at the centre of the new Fall/Winter 2016 collection. These elegant, bold garments cascade in lilac, pacific, ice and other soft pastel colours, bringing out the best of her nuances. Enveloping coats embellished with soft shaded fur collars accompany precious Valencienne lace and chiffon silk garments, creating novel combinations that enhance

contrast.

In the same vein as the previous collection, duchesse plays a leading role: its smooth and full-bodied structure perfectly fits the retro dresses with full skirts, trench coats, and a

contemporary taste.Lastly, the garment that perfectly represents Antonio Croce’s essence is the biker jacket,

making its grand return with a contemporary interpretation.

BEAUTY REPORT

HOMEMADEBeauty Recipes

If you're on a quest for perfect skin, a trip to the kitchen is an easier and better route than a trip to the drugstore. This month, join us as we give our skin a

break from all the different scrubs, creams and lotions available on the market which actually contains ingredients you own at home.

1. Ginger Bread BODY SCRUBIf you've been under a lot of stress lately or you're just craving a little down time, treat yourself to a pampering session- starting with a good body scrub. Ginger and cinnamon works both as an

anti-inflammatory prescription to your skin and cinnamon helps to soothe dry skin. What's better

than smelling like a gingerbread cookie while having soft and healthy skin?

2. French Toast LIP SCRUBRule number one for every lip scrub is that it should always taste nice. Imagine a lip scrub tasting like breakfast- say hello to the french toast lip scrub. It contains sugar which serves as an exfoliant and coconut oil to nourish and moisturise. Another important ingredient is nutmeg as it lightens dark lips and makes them appear more red and healthy.

3. Mint Chocolate FACE MASKThis has to be our favourite, the most edible and best-smelling recipe. If you love chocolate and fresh scents, you'll be obsessed with making these. The key ingredients are cocoa and mint. Cocoa powder helps rejuvenate the skin and prevent sunburn while increasing blood flow to the face. Mint leaves treat irritated skin and helps to shrink pores, reducing the chance of any breakouts you may unwittingly be about to have. Your skin will feel fully-hydrated right after using this mask.

4. Strawberries and CreamHAIR MASK

For the ultimate pampering session, give your locks some love with this hair mask, perfect

for both dry and oily hair. It is a beneficial remedy for hair fall due to clogged pores of the scalp. It works as a deep conditioner and leaves your hair tangle-free.

• 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder • 2 tablespoons of almond oil

• 2 tablespoons choppedmint leaves

• 1 tablespoon of raw honey

Combine

• 2 cups of mayonnaise• 1 cup of plain yoghurt

• 15-20 diced strawberries. This mask can be left on the hair

Qatar is home to many beautiful and cultural landmarks such as the Museum of Islamic Art, the State Grand Mosque and Souq Waqif. Tourists flock

to our beloved country each year to experience the diverse culture that exists here and without a doubt, a visit to the labyrinthine channels hidden inside the Souq is not to be missed. Nestled deep within the heart of Souq Waqif lies Al Jasra Boutique Hotel. I had the pleasure of visiting the picturesque Al Jasra SPA and treated myself to a luxurious Moroccan Hammam treatment and, as an extra indulgence, an Eminence paprika facial was a last minute addition.

As with every experience you will have at Al Jasra, my day was filled with opulence and it all started once I entered the Al Jasra SPA on a hot day after a stressful day at work. I was greeted immediately by a staff member and asked what exactly it was that I was looking for and shortly after a personal consultation with my therapist, Mina, I was lead to a private change room in which to lighten my load and get ready for my treatment. The Moroccan Hammam began in a room with Mina lathering my skin with black soap (made from olive oil, ground olive pits, and eucalyptus) that prepares it for an exfoliation with the traditional Kessa (a glove made of granular tissue that readies the body for a deep skin scrub that purifies and promotes blood circulation activation). After 7 to 10 minutes, with the room full of steam infused with eucalyptus essential oil that helps to increase the breathing technique and respiratory system, I am rinsed and the exfoliation begins. All impurities are removed and I could literally see the dead skin falling off of me! I was left with a natural glow- what more could a girl want? A Ghassoul mask (desert crystals that contain a high concentration of minerals such as potassium, sodium, magnesium and iron) is also applied all over my skin. After 15 minutes in the steam room, it was time to cool down. Outside the Hammam facility, my feet were washed with cold water and beautiful

peppermint body milk was applied in order to cool me down. I was left feeling fresh and invigorated. Now onto the facial I so desperately needed.

After reading the options of facials from the menu, I was intrigued by the Eminence paprika facial. Was this really paprika that was going to be applied to my face? What would that be like? I wanted to know more.

The Eminence paprika facial offers a truly exquisite facial with all natural ingredients. As Mina was applying it to my bare face, I could see the fresh fruit pulp (made from a unique combination of organic apples, grapes and naseberries) and could actually smell the fresh herbs. Delightful! Earlier I wondered if the facial would be hot on my skin, remember? Well, it most certainly was. The hot concoction is composed mainly of Hungarian paprika (a highly active detoxifier and oxygen booster that regenerates and rejuvenates the epidermis) and is made from a unique blend of stimulating spices and herbs including lavender, sage, St. John’s Wort and cinnamon. A thick layer of the gel like substance was lathered onto my skin afterwich it is meant to kill bacteria and feed the skin with high levels of nutrition that detoxifies and plumps it up. Wow, this feeling was so unusual yet addictive. A tingling sensation took over my face, and I was feeling good. It is definitely something worth trying out if you’re looking for a unique facial. This facial is very results-oriented and has a wonderful added extra of a relaxing facial massage.

I cannot recommend these treatments enough for the woman out there who, like me, are bored of the same old facial or for someone looking for a full body cleanse that can only be attained through a Moroccan Hammam - at The Spa in Al Jasra Boutique hotel of course! This was truly an unforgettable treatment in the heart of Doha - what more could I have asked for?

ABODE: Samia, what is the concept of OrganiqueBeauty Salon?

I want people to feel and experience nature and the benefits that it brings when you take full advantage of it. I want people to go back to their roots and experience and connect to their healthier side.

ABODE: From whom do you get this interest in natural products and distinctive nature of trying out new things?

From my mother and grandmother. I grew up spending time with them, watching them mix and match everything in the kitchen and I noticed how many unique mixtures could be produced from natural ingredients. I knew then that I wanted to reproduce my elders' mixtures and share it with Qatar.

Samia Al Saleh, the founder and owner of Organique Beauty Salon is obsessed with all things natural - and she thinks you should be too. Tapping into the au naturel trend sported by Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and most recently Alicia keys, she has pursued her dream and created the first organic salon in the country. In this interview, Samia talks about mother nature being her muse, her personal philosophy and aspirations which have formed part of who she is today.

ABODE: What difficulties did you come up against when first establishing this project?

When I first started people were not yet aware of natural organic products and so it didn't take off as well as I had hoped. People told me to just stick to the trends and techniques that are normally used but Qatar is already full of salons providing this already. For me, I really want to invest in something that has substantial benefit health-wise. We encourage people to get hydrated since it has lots of benefits and we give Mr Greenie drinks, a combination of parsley, mint and cucumber juice. We support the natural way of beautifying yourself.

ABODE: How long exactly did it take you to make your dream a reality?

Well, we were planning each step for about a year before we opened last March 2016. I had a business plan but of course, as time goes by, it kept on changing; a lot of experimentation took place. This dream of mine was so consuming that I ended up literally dreaming of the opening! (laughs).

ABODE: What future plans have you got as of now?

Our customers like the things we are using now so I am now thinking of producing them on a larger scale and putting the products on sale. I want to sell natural henna first then perhaps I will create a line of makeup for all skin types so that people won’t have to go out of Qatar just to look for the right shades for their skin tone. But I am gearing towards the organic side. Then, I would like to have a holistic spa and finally I would like to invest on importing or exporting business (for salon equipment). Hopefully, I can do all these things before I get to 60. Keep an eye on me!

I entered the spa with much anticipation and truth be told, I was not disappointed. I was greeted by warm and friendly staff; Marj and Ayun, the therapists assigned to me detailed

the treatment that I was about to experience, but my tingling excitement has blocked my ability to absorb further details. After I quickly changed, I passed through a serene and calmly lit lobby, Marj and Ayun guided me to one of the couples room. The interior was simple yet big enough for couples but elegantly decorated with ornaments. The ambience and scent were indicative of an enigmatic spa that you could experience in a mysterious, Arabian location. For a couple who wish to experience a spa without having to do it separate rooms, this is the place for you. The room temperature was perfect and eased my back pain.

The traditional Middle Eastern Saray Spa Oud Signature package is a 75-minute ritual comprising of a 30 minute full body massage, a sea salt scrub and a lathering of a light oud-scented body cream. Drawing on the mineral-rich properties of the Dead Sea, this Jordan-manufactured product has proven to be a good source of healing, exfoliation and reinvigoration for the skin. Interestingly, I was informed that the oud products used here are created naturally by Saray Spa and a new concept by Osama Soliman, the Director of Spa at the Marriott Marquis.

After bathing, I then succumbed to a lavish body scrubbing experience; a sea salt-based butter (also oud scented). I can feel the right amount of heat penetrating throughout my skin. Then, I was wrapped in a thermal blanket and this lasted for 25 minutes. It was the first time for me to experience this nourishing treatment and I am pleased to have been introduced to it knowing the health benefits it can give– it aids in slimming, burning fat, speeds up the metabolism and has detoxifying properties which enhance the absorption of nutrients, promotes blood circulation, improves

the immune system and most importantly for me, diminishes inflammation and aids in post pregnancy recovery (as it's not too long since I gave birth).

Up next was the customised facial therapy while I was wrapped in the blanket. With a light touch, Marj moderately and expertly massaged my face with organic products. Interestingly, I felt neither itchiness nor irritation from it; something which I was afraid of when using new products on my skin. It was so light and felt so natural, certainly an antioxidant and promoted skin refinement - I simply had to ask the staff what they used.

To wrap up the treatment, I had a great head, neck, shoulder and upper back massage which really did put me straight to sleep. Nothing beats waking up fully refreshed and revitalised. Immediately afterwards I could feel my skin glowing.

To Saray Spa at the Marriott Marquis, kudos to you! You have raised the bar of therapeutic spas and have far exceeded our expectations. To my two wonderful therapists, thank you. I really appreciate you guys taking care of me and making me beautiful inside and out.

ABODE: Hello Burcu, thank you for chatting with us today. You have a strong background in banking but made the transition into hospitality- why is this?

I was working as a Human Resources Manager in the Istanbul Stock Exchange Settlement and Custody Bank and I was trying to escape from my chaotic city life by exploring places that were offering amazing hotel Spas. I was inspired by an Indian yoga instructor who was travelling all around the world. That was the start of my journey. I began to discover popular spa retreats from the Aguas Calientes in Peru to the Tengchong Hot Springs in Yunnan, China. I visited 60 countries and 90 spa hotels and realized that hospitality is 100% suited to my personality.

ABODE: What keeps the affluent Qatari market coming back to Bliss®?

Since I started at Bliss, my challenge is to find new and improved ways to get Doha’s elites connected to us. Bliss is known for providing excellent facials, massages, body treatments, waxing and nail services, and we added a couple of new international trends to our menu like the Hollywood Celebrity Facial , Orogold and IDDNA facial that creates a true facelift based on your own DNA and is 100 % personalised for the client. 60% of our clients are regular and this explains how unique we are.

ABODE: What is Bliss® Spa’s formula for success?

Bliss is about delivering advanced skin and body treatments that get real results. Behind those results is our accomplished team of expert technicians from six continents and second is the unique marketing details that make Bliss 100% special from other competitors.

ABODE: What are your future plans for Bliss® Spa?

We are trying to be innovative and go out of the box to see what type of new trends are happening in all over the world and introduce them into the Qatari Market. We will have many surprises from permanent waxing that gives a laser result without any risk of burning and we also plan to introduce the newest slimming technologies. Keep an eye out for us!

THE D.I.Y HAIRCUT

On average, we are spending $10,000 alone a year on cutting our hair- a cost that

can be dramatically reduced simply by trimming at home. So, unless you've got

QR 36,000 spare at home, take our beauty editor Sharice Tan's advice and and cut your

hair the right way- with no regrets!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Page 53: 10- ABODE - Oct 2016

51

PREPARATIONRight, you've got all the right tools, so where do you start? Start by preparing your hair- if you're planning on just doing a tiny trim, it's best to cut your hair while it's dry. Cutting wet hair can end up being shorter than what you would want it to be. If you're looking to cut quite a lot off, make sure your hair is slightly damp to have more control of how short you cut it.

Now divide your hair into sections while being careful to avoid any loose strands. Use your hair clips to divide the top and bottom part of your hair. This will help you maintain the consistency of the hair length you want to achieve.

THE POINT CUTTING TECHNIQUEThis technique involves cutting your hair at an angle towards the end of your strands. This is to add texture and definition to your cut. It creates a gradient touch to blend the strands together more seamlessly. Hold your hair approximately six centimetres from your fingers to the ends of your hair so that the hair sticks out vertically. When it comes to working with your fringe or bangs, section off a good amount of hair depending on how thick you want it to be. Then twist and elevate the hair straight out from your scalp. Afterwards, use the point cutting technique to achieve a textured wispy look.

THE PONYTAIL METHODIf you're opting for a layered haircut, use the ponytail method. Tie your hair as if you're doing a ponytail but place it centrally on the top of your forehead and cut in a straight line, horizontally. Untie the ponytail and voila- a subtle layer has been added to your hair.

TIP: When you start to cut your hair, keep in mind that it is better to cut too little than too much. Take your time and don't try to rush.

DID YOU KNOW?According to The Huffington Post,19% of us will get our hair cut 8 times a year!

The second largest organ in our body, the liver is known as the body’s gatekeeper. It is tasked with the invaluable job of removing and breaking down toxins to prevent damage in other areas of the body. When toxins, such as toxic beauty products, environmental pollutants, alcohol, or food additives are swallowed or absorbed through the skin, the liver steps into action, breaking them down and removing them from the body before they can do any harm. In addition, the liver is also regularly cleaning our blood and regulating its composition, processing nutrients, producing proteins, and a number of other responsibilities. What an organ!

Over time, even the mighty liver can become overburdened by excesses of fats and additives, which create blockages and reduce its ability to function. This means that toxins that the liver would normally filter out may start to build up or be recycled into your bloodstream, causing a number of health issues. This is when it’s time to step in and lend your liver a helping hand by doing a liver detox.

How do you know if you need to detox your liver? Here are a few possible symptoms to look for:

• Abdominal bloating• Acid reflux• Difficulty digesting fatty foods• Chronic fatigue

• High blood pressure/cholesterol• Excessive belly fat• Pain in upper right abdomen• If your gallbladder has been removed

If you’ve noticed some of these symptoms, it may be time to make some dietary adjustments to help your liver heal. To begin, start your day with a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon. Increase your fluid intake to up to 3 litres of water per day and drink plenty of herbal teas. Dr Stuart’s liver detox tea is great and contains dandelion, peppermint, spearmint and burdock. Eat plenty of legumes (kidney beans, lentils, chickpeas), unsalted nuts (walnuts, cashews, macadamia), and seeds (pumpkin, sunflower). Consume healthy fats like avocado, hemp, flax, coconut, chia, and olives, and eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables.

As much as possible, avoid dairy products, coffee, sugar, artificial sweeteners, fried foods, and dried fruits.

It’s also recommended to engage in some type of aerobic activity that induces sweating as this also helps to remove toxic build up from the body. Jogging, spinning, dancing or hot yoga are great for examples. This can be supplemented by spending time sweating it out in a sauna. Just be sure to stay properly hydrated!

By following these guidelines, your body should be feeling cleaner and healthier in no time, and your liver will certainly thank you!

The human body is a beautiful and complex machine that works our entire lives to keep us healthy and strong. But, like many things in life, the condition of our body is a reflection of how we treat it and what we put into it. When we consume a diet based on high-quality organic produce and whole grains, our energy levels tend to be higher, our weight stabilises, and good health

is easier to maintain. When life gets busy and we turn to foods of convenience such as processed foods, pre-packaged meals and fast food, we increase our consumption of oils, fats, salt, and preservatives, and our health often suffers as a result. The liver, which is the main organ for cleansing and detoxifying the body, is the one that suffers most.

There’s Dumpling You Should KnowI have a confession to make. I love dumplings almost (but

not quite) as much as I love cheese. An expertly made dumpling with the right amount of filling encased in silken

pastry and steamed, fried or boiled in a soup is a thing of beauty. You don’t have to travel the world or spend a fortune to enjoy

Chinese style dumplings in Doha. These restaurants are two of my favourites, serving up some of the best and most authentic

in the city. In fact, they are all that- and dim sum.

I eat. I write. I write about eating. Each month I will be bringing you the very best of what Doha’s foodie scene has to offer here in between the pages of ABODE magazine.

Mainland ChinaWith its dining room decorated with dark wood and rich red fabrics and a chef hailing direct from China, this chain has brought high quality, intricately made dumplings to a loyal fan base. The steamed sea bass and truffle oil dumpling is a delicate earth/sea balance between the fragrant truffle and the delicate fish. Another must try is the sensationally savoury chicken and basil dumpling. My word of advice is to go easy on the complimentary and addictive sugar coated peanuts and save room for the main event. This can be a trap for young players! The closest we have to a “Yum Cha Style” lunch set up, you can order steaming baskets to share and walk away with a belly full of dumplings and a big smile.

Three PeppersPeople never believe me when I tell them that the first incarnation of this restaurant was a Mexican/Chinese joint. A burrito with your sweet and sour chicken? Thankfully, they have moved on from their

“(con)fusion” period and have stuck to a single cuisine and it is one they are very good at. Their dumpling offerings are limited but handmade – steamed/boiled/fried beef, chicken, lamb, vegetable or seafood. But they come in generous portions of 12 and the dipping sauces including Chinese black vinegar and a fiery chilli concoction. Also recommended is the hot and sour dumpling soup. It’s not the most flash place in town and it is located next to a car parts and service store on one of the busiest roads in the country, but the tables of Chinese expats gives you a good indication of its authenticity.

As a South African interior designer based in Qatar, I constantly find my life as a hybrid between North and South. With the introduction to Autumn, a new aesthetic must arise. With a society who is constantly on the go, I feel that we are constantly on the

search for some down time and implementing natural elements of materials from nature into our environments, we can create a harmonised feel within our spaces. This season I drew inspiration from the people around me, my travels and my past projects. Colours, textures and styles influence our daily lives and this season, there is no exception. Working extensively throughout Africa and the Middle East, I have been drawn to the mixture of cultural tribe styles. These tribes have proudly worn, lived and breathed their cultures. Designs with decorative diversity are rooted in history, and as a designer, I want to return to the natural uses of these materials. I am left creatively enriched and inspired by the constant layering effect throughout these areas with their traditional yet somewhat extremely minimal style within their housing lifestyle. Distressed timbers, clay wall finishes, driftwoods, textured coppers and raw metals collaborate, giving this season's interiors a past and a story. Both literally and figuratively, the constant use of textures and organic materials stand timeously within our homes and environments and the feeling of sustainability and durability is tangible. I leave you on this note “ What’s design if there is no thrill to the touch?”.

From the gardens of the Mughal courts to traditional temple offerings and wedding rituals, flowers have always held an important role in

Indian culture. The lotus blossom and marigold each contain great significance, and blossoms of all kinds are a frequent sight in daily life. So it’s no wonder that floral motifs appear so prevalently in Indian design—be it in architecture, textiles, or interiors in general.

Few countries have so continuously practised and celebrated surface embellishment and ornamentation as India. From the great monuments of the Mughal Empire to the Victorian Orientalist buildings of the British Raj, the richness of India’s architecture is overwhelming. The talent of India’s craftsmen, its cultural pluralism and a unique palette of materials have produced some of the most thrilling architectural experiences to be found anywhere in the world.

Focusing on the floral patterns found in the architecture of the North West of the country, which combine motifs drawn from nature with abstract geometrical patterns, The Floral Patterns of India captures, in great detail, the diversity and energy of the subcontinent’s decorative arts. Wilson’s fine photographs reveal the skill, patience and imagination of the many thousands of craftsmen who have turned to floral motifs and rendered them with precision and life-enriching creativity. Juxtaposed with the photographs are Wilson’s own meticulously detailed drawings, all created by hand but with a stencil-like clarity that illuminate the original historical patterns.

A contextual introduction is followed by chapters on borders and bands, floral panels, repeated patterns and ornamental scenes. The Floral Patterns of India also features a chapter that focuses on Wilson’s

drawing process - illustrated with many of his preparatory sketches - as well as a bibliography of further reading, making it an invaluable sourcebook for design professionals and enthusiastic home decorators. For armchair travellers, India-philes, lovers of architecture and the decorative arts, this delightful new title is an absorbing immersion into one of the world’s oldest civilisations and greatest cultures.

Henry Wilson is well known as a photographer of architecture and interiors, with a special interest in India. He is the author of many books, including Benares, India Contemporary and Pattern and Ornament in the Arts of India. India is a country rich with the beauty of its culture and people. Such is the focus of Wilson’s new book out now from Thames & Hudson. Beautifully photographed by Wilson himself, the publication is likely to provide plenty of decor inspiration.

Patterns and colours have long since been a welcomed addition to any home interior and for the seasoned designer, it is an integral part of their abode. Making your home one to be proud of is something each and every one of us should aspire to achieve, as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the famous German writer so eloquently put it, “He is happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home.” Cue Henry Wilson’s new book Floral Patterns of India, in which Wilson explores the centrality of flowers to India’s design history and how their meaning both as religious symbols and metaphors for India’s great dynasties has been manifested in architecture and décor. The book traces floral decoration from the Mughal dynasty onwards, styles that are still accessible today. This month, draw your inspiration from the East and redecorate with peace in your heart- with a dash of adventure.

The sun-kissed & lavish coastal principality of Monaco reigns supreme on the Riviera—with or without a royal family, it takes the crown.

Ruled by the House of Grimaldi who took over in 1297—Monaco is a tiny principality (it’s the size of Central Park) that is synonymous with luxury, and high society. It’s a favourite destination for bon vivants, celebrities and those with an appreciation for history, art, opulence, and royalty—as well as the royal treatment. With the Mediterranean kissing the blue coastline as a backdrop, Monaco reigns supreme in the Riviera.

THE LOWDOWN: Designed by Charles Garnier and Gustave Eiffel and opened in 1879, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, referred to by the Monegasques as Salle Garnier, is part of the heritage of this mini principality. Illustrious performers have stood on its stage—from Sarah Bernhardt, Enrico Caruso, to in present day Plácido Domingo and even Lana del Rey. In 2004/5 the opera underwent a renovation. Over 80,000 gold leaves were applied to moldings, paintings were restored, and a five-ton chandelier entirely rebuilt. The windows overlooking the Mediterranean are now open with views of the sea, making this the only opera house in the world with ocean views within a concert space.

TRAVELLER TIP: Every year during the month of November under the high patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival brings together internally renowned jazz musicians. It’s an event not to miss.

THE LOWDOWN: Built in the 1900s the Hôtel Hermitage is a staple in Monte-Carlo for refinement and elegance. It sits lavishly on the Mediterranean coast and is located in the heart of Monaco. In the 18th century it was an inn that welcomed weary travellers, before becoming a luxury 5-star hotel in the 21st century, and one of the leading hotels in the world. With an indoor pool, a luxurious spa, the Thermes Marins de Monte-Carlo- waiting to pamper guests, and suites that are equipped with jacuzzis, the hotel is also known for its Belle Époque architecture. None other than Gustave Eiffel designed the cupola in the lovely Winter Garden portion of the hotel. And to make the enchantment last, Chef Benoît Witz creates gastronomical magic in the Michelin-starred Le Vistamar restaurant.

ABODE Musings

There she lay forgotten; hidden in the deepest, darkest corner of the cave of lost writings. Embalmed by a leather-bound dressing and draped in a blanket of long abandoned cobwebs full of dust. No intruders of her privacy, no judgement of character, she was safe in the knowledge that her solitary confinement was her only solace.

Her life hadn’t always been this way. Her papyrus pages were meticulously strung together, chapter by chapter, adorned with words written in the finest Indian ink. Her cover was made from bamboo, intricately carved. Hand after hand swept across the bookshelf and came to rest on her spine. In awe of her beauty, her pages were skimmed through by the casual browsers.

Browsing was a necessary step towards achieving her goal of being read with dedication. She stood proudly on her shelf every day, waiting for somebody to pick her up and admire her colourful embellished pages.

To be read, however, was to have a finger run across every word on every page. It was to brim with pride at her words being memorised and quoted, to be kept under a pillow and close to her reader’s beating heart. That was the ultimate goal, the purpose of her creation.

Years went by, other books left and were replaced but, her reader never came. The browsing became tedious; every reader departing at various chapters, missing pages here and there, and eventually placing her back on the shelf without reaching the final chapters.

She began to flinch every time she was lifted, her anxiety rising at every turn of a page. She willed for them to keep reading, promising them that her chapters would become more exciting. Patience and perseverance were all she needed.

The constant browsing wore out her pages; her ink began to fade. They tore the corners for pieces of scrap and dropped her enough for her spine to crack. Abandoned by every browser, she was eventually removed from the shelf by her author, wrapped and tossed into the cave of lost writings.

Her way of life contradicted the will of the universe, though. Surely, there couldn’t be a book that had never been read. The mind was created to think, the hand was created to ink, pages were created to be turned, and words were created to be understood. Her situation, as a lost writing, was an unfortunate series of events that the universe set out to resolve.

A curious reader was travelling all the lands, to find a book worth reading. Having exhausted every shelf as a browser, he sought to explore unconventional options and so he began his journey.

As the universe intended, he stumbled across the cave of lost writings. He had the option to turn away, but the eeriness was alluring. Step by step he foraged through the darkness, the weeds and the damp until he reached her hiding place. He felt around his unlit surroundings, his fingers met the dusty shelves until his toe tapped against an object on the ground.

Her heart throbbed as she sensed his closeness. Her leather-bounds tightened around her, as she wished to disappear further into the darkness out of his reach. Even after all these years, the thought of another browser was a torturous thought.

He picked her up gently, observing her dressing with his hands. He brushed away the cobwebs and blew away the dust and she could not deny the relief of a burden lifting from upon her.

Her insecurities were heightened; she was ashamed of her faded beauty, the smell of damp and decay. She urged for him to stop exploring despite secretly enjoying this new overwhelming feeling of freedom.

But his insistence was charming and he continued to work at the knots to free her, so she fought against her inhibitions to allow her leather-bounds to loosen.

Without warning, he stopped. Her heart sank. Why would he stop

now? Before he’d freed her? She sensed he was walking away and her anxiety returned. “Another browser!” she cried in woe. However, as he continued to walk, the sound of his footsteps didn’t distance, and she realised he was taking her with him, tucked under his arm. He was finding his way out of the cave, into the daylight, before he began to explore his new-found treasure.

Once he was outside the cave, she sensed that he had sat down, with her on his lap. A feeling of warmth overcame her. She could feel his eyes examining the leather covers once again, working out a way to remove them. This time, she could sense herself feeling excited once more, or maybe she was losing all common sense. Either way, she was eager for him to continue.

He began again, untying the leather bounds, and there was a moment of silence as he removed her from her casing. She lay there as he sat staring and she wondered if he would now begin to read her story.

He began to trace his finger across her pages, word by word, gently turning them. He held her close, sometimes retracing the chapter.

She was hopeful, but she was scared. Damaged from past experience, she could feel panic rising as he passed each chapter, wondering if he was about to put her down.

All of a sudden, she had an urge to hold her pages down, in anticipation of rejection. She was painfully reminded of the anguish of not knowing how this would end and the gamble that was her heart. Her paranoia was exacerbated by her pessimism. She had spent too many years living in hope, and wisdom had taught her that expectation can only lead to disappointment.

The universe may insist that every book deserves a reader but life provides no guarantees. The deeper he delved into her chapters, the more excruciating it would be to overcome his departure. The pain of rejection outweighed the excitement of love, and this time, she had the chance to save herself the heartbreak. This time, she wanted the proverbial upper hand.

He was forced to tug the pages apart in desperation to read them. She could sense his frustration but she refused to back down. The more he tugged, the more she resisted.

His charming insistence was now irritating, so she began to turn her own pages at the speed of lightning, blurring her words. The dust created a sandstorm, temporarily blinding him. Her heart was breaking, but this was a necessary evil to protect her own sanity.

Panicking, he grabbed her pages with both his hands to stop her, ripping some of them in the process and slicing his fingers.

Eventually, he gave up. He had his limits and he couldn’t force her anymore. He was frightened, she no longer seemed as exciting as he first thought, and he began to wonder why she had been abandoned in the first place. Without communication, he was left to assume the worst.

He picked her up once more, this time not so carefully and glared at her in bewilderment. He had made up his mind, he could not read a book that didn’t want to be read so he threw her straight back into the depths of the cave. She soared through the darkness until she hit the dusty ground, a different corner this time, much lonelier than before without any of her leather casing to shroud her.

What remained of her pages was in tatters, she didn’t recognise herself anymore. She was cold and abandoned, and he was gone. She blamed him for being yet another browser and accepted that she would once again lie in solitary confinement until the cobwebs covered her once more.

This was the story of how she became a closed book. A self-fulfilling prophecy from years of being treated as though her story was not worth reading; she had adjusted her state of mind to make it impossible for anybody to read her. Self-sabotaging and helpless; in not wanting to feel rejected, she became everything she had strived not to be.

Through its partnership with Hempel, KidzMondo Doha is carrying on its practice of collaborating with the premier establishments in various industries and disciplines, emanating from its vision of providing the best educational and entertaining experience to children.

The activities will support social, artistic, creative and cognitive development amongst others while unlocking imagination and creativity in children and empowering them with knowledge, essential skills and life-lessons that will help them become well-versed individuals and prepare them for the professional world of adults with confidence and courage.

City Centre Rotana Doha, Rotana’s newest five-star property in Qatar, hosted a special event for the kids with special needs from the Social Services Department in HMC facility of Hamad General Hospital and Rumeila Hospital titled “Hospitality With a Heart”. This event, part of the “Rotana Earth” initiative, is Rotana’s sustainability platform that covers health, society, environment, sports, etc.

The management and team at City Centre Rotana Doha welcomed the visitors and made sure to make this visit a memorable one for the kids. The “Almas” ballroom, allocated for this event, was equipped for showcasing a movie. After watching the movie, the kids, their families and HMC representatives were invited for lunch.

The hotel also arranged for many entertainment activities in cooperation with APEX Events, which provided Kevin and Bob with the two minion cartoon characters who entertained the kids, played & took photos with them, filled joy and happiness in their hearts, and made sure that they had fun.

Oryx Rotana, the five-star luxury business hotel in Doha, held three summer swimming camps designated for kids. The camps created a fun-filled ambience and enabled the kids to showcase their talents. They enjoyed the hot summer days by utilising the hotel’s fully equipped facilities.

All three swimming camps witnessed a high turnover; kids were divided into groups of 16. They were offered 10 training sessions with each session being held for the duration of 75 minutes. The kids mastered several swimming skills and techniques, which included freestyle, forward, back swimming and butterfly.

On this occasion, Lana Jwainat, Director of Marketing and Communications at Oryx Rotana said: “Through the swimming camps, we sought to create a fun-filled atmosphere for kids during the hot summer days that offered them an unforgettable experience and also helped them master swimming skills."

Primary Health Care Corporations’s ‘Screen for Life’ Program highlights breast cancer screening’s impact on the whole family.Breast cancer is at the forefront of diseases affecting women across the world, and in Qatar this is no different. According to figures from Qatar’s Supreme Council of Health, among the top malignant primary sites of cancer in the country, breast cancer accounted for almost a fifth of cases. The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified that there is a clear connection between early detection and morbidity rates and has therefore named breast cancer screening as a major goal in public. Nations across many continents, including Qatar, have instituted national breast cancer screening programs in accordance with that goal. Since early detection greatly increases the chance of survival, the aim of a screening program is to increase awareness of both the disease and the benefits of early detection.Qatar in ActionQatar is committed to reducing the incidence and morbidity of breast cancer in the country. Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser stated, Qatar will be known not just for its work in improving health globally, but for providing the very best healthcare to its own citizens.” With the ‘Screen For Life’ program to promote breast cancer screening, PHCC is following through on that commitment.

This month, we're giving one lucky winner a one-month full membership at

Grand Hyatt™ Doha’s Jaula Spa & Club. Get a chance to enjoy the fitness gym, wet

facilities, beach and pool and make a statement with your fingertips as we will be offering

a manicure & pedicure treatment as well with this exciting promo.

Grand Hyatt™ Doha’s Jaula Spa & Club welcomes guests to a world of relaxation. Jaula

means “journey” in Arabic, and the spa echoes the symmetry and splendour of a royal

palace while offering every guest a journey of true wellness in Qatar. With an entrance

separate from the main hotel, Jaula Spa & Club offers guests an exclusive experience set

in a peaceful environment away from the outside world. It also presents its Club, a fully

equipped gym (with a private women’s gym) featuring the best Technogym™ equipment,

including the new Artis line that is based on innovative technology and made with

superior craftsmanship.
