Mini-Camp
Camp Scripture
Finally, Brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just,
whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable…if there is any
moral excellence and if there is any praise…dwell on these things!
Philippians 4:8
6
God is so Great. We are a backsliding bunch, and we keep doing things that we know are wrong... lose our tempers, judge other people…stray from our families.
Seriously, we make mistakes all the time, and have a tendency to give up on ourselves, and wonder if God is going to give up on us as well... but he never never will.
He looks at our history of disobedience just as he looked at the history of the Israelites right before this scripture... and he says…Okay..you messed up.
Let's start again. I'll wipe the slate clean... please, please come back... I love you…and he does…more than anyone can possibly love us on the earth, and He knows us better than anyone else can know us.
He knows, in fact, that underneath all the sin, all the disobedience, and all the resistance…there is a man in training…someone with the capacity to be like He is, to guide and love and give the way that He does.
Just as he told the woman taken in adultery... neither do I condemn thee... go, and sin no more... he says the same thing to us.
Come Home!!
7
He knows that we aren't going to be perfect... that's why we have the sacrament, so that we can renew the remission of our sins… And He knows that He might have to wipe the slate clean more than once.
*Every time we repent, with sincerity, and with a desire to do better…He forgives us. That is the gift that Christ gave us, who suffered for all our mistakes, for all of our evil choices…so that we don't have to suffer for them.
All we have to do is turn around, face the right direction…and no matter how bad it was, how deep the wounds, how complicated the circumstances…He pulls us out of the pit that we have dug for ourselves, takes away the eternal consequences of our sin, and sets us back on level ground to try again.
He is our Father... he wants us to come home!
8
1 God Loves You!The Bible says, "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in
Him shall not perish, but have eternal life"
The problem is that . . .
2 All of us have done, said or thought things that are wrong. This is called sin, and our sins have
separated us from God.The Bible says “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” God is perfect and holy, and our
sins separate us from God forever. The Bible says “The wages of sin is death.”
The good news is that, about 2,000 years ago,9
3 God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins.
Jesus is the Son of God. He lived a sinless life and then died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. “God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.”
Jesus rose from the dead and now He lives in heaven with God His Father. He offers us the gift of eternal life -- of living forever with Him in heaven if we accept Him as
our Lord and Savior. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me."
God reaches out in love to you and wants you to be His child. "As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe on His name."
4 If you want to accept Christ as your Savior and turn from your sins, you can ask Him to be your Savior
and Lord by praying a prayer like this:"Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Please
forgive my sins and give me the gift of eternal life.I ask you in to my life and heart to be my Lord and Savior. I want to serve you always."
Have you prayed this prayer?

At one time or another all great leaders experience something so big and so
impactful it literally changes the landscape – it’s what I call a “Game
Changer.” A game changer is that ah-ha moment where you see something others don’t. It’s the transformational magic that takes organizations, churches…families
from ordinary to exceptional.
WE NEED GAME CHANGERS! 11
Practice Session #1
G-reater purpose
12
Abraham – “Greater Purpose”
• Received the original covenant, “In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed”.
• Early Christians traced their history back to Abraham. Role is critical in the development of biblical history.
• God called Abraham “out of” his country, his family, and his father’s house. This “calling out” is significant. Our common word for ‘church’ is from a Greek word, meaning “called out ones.”
• TODAY the church is comprised of people who have been “called out.” 13
Abraham…
•Accepted his mission…
•Sacrificed his plan…
•Understood the Greater Purpose!
What we learn from Abraham…
14
You have been “called out”…
•What do you plan to do about it?
•Do you “get” the Greater Purpose?

“Abundant”
Definition of ABUNDANT1a : marked by great plenty
b : amply supplied
18
A promise that Christ made for us is to have “abundant life.”
The trouble is that the world says happiness = "stuff“
VS the condition of the heart and soul.
An"ABUNDANT LIFE" is not a life with lots of stuff; it is a life full of abundant peace and joy!
Game Changers play and live with abundant life!
“Abundant”
19
“Abundant” John 10:1-10
No Shortcuts! 10:1 10 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.
• One way to new life ... only through Christ!
• Thieves and robbers!
• We live in a world that loves "shortcuts" to everything ... anything that makes things easier or free!
• People want abundance but without responsibilities!
20
• See little sacrificial giving AND much selfish gain
• Abundance VS Scarcity Thinking
• Christ died for us so that we could live for Him and for others…NOT OURSELVES.
• The happiest people in the world are those who are not focused on themelves!
“Abundant”
21
2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”
“Abundant”
22
7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have ABUNDANT life, and have it to the full.
“Abundant”
23
The life lived for self ends up empty! The quality of life is very distinct! Following Christ leads to abundant life.
How full is yours?Be a Game Changer!Greater Purpose…Abundant!

Definition of MAGNANIMOUS1: showing or suggesting a lofty and courageous spirit
“mag·nan·i·mous”
magnus in Latin means “great,” large,” and “noble,”and animus in
Latin refers to “heart,” mind,” “soul,” or “spirit.”
28
A magnanimous leader…
• Gives credit where it is due. Ensures that credit for successes is spread as widely as possible throughout the TEAM.
• Takes personal responsibility for failures.
• Helps other people feel good about themselves and draws the team closer together.
• Spreads the fame and takes the blame!
“mag·nan·i·mous”
29
1 Samuel 24: 8-10,16-17
David -“mag·nan·i·mous”
• Knew his role
• Respected the leadership
• Knew his time would come
• Was not swayed by popular opinion
• MAGNIFIED others! 30

Definition of ENGAGED1: involved in activity : occupied2: greatly interested : committed3: being in gear : meshed
40
“Engaged”
Engaged leaders are involved and provide the greatest opportunity for success through achieving the goals of the team.
Engaged leaders energize and excite others about making contributions to the shared vision.
41
“Engaged”
All team members look at themselves as Leaders – Each team member has a sphere of influence.
42
Engaged Leaders learn from mistakes and celebrate successes.
Lou Brock of the St. Louis Cardinals said, “Show me a guy who is afraid to look bad and I’ll show you a guy you can beat every time.” Highly engaged teams are led by individuals who understand that the only way to improve is to try new things.

Caleb…“Engaged”• God said to Moses…send Men
• Pick one from each tribe. Twelve total.
• Mission: to return with a report about the land and its people.
• All 12 reported that it was a land that was plentiful.
• But only 2 reported that they should return there!
• Only Caleb said “we can certainly do this!”
• Only Caleb was said by God to have a “different spirit”.
• Caleb was fully engaged!

Paul…“Committed”
1 Corinthians 9:24-2724 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
49
1 Corinthians 1:10
10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

•Unity

55
Definition of hum·ble:
1. Marked by meekness or modesty in behavior, attitude, or spirit; not arrogant or prideful.
2. Showing respect:
3. Showing that you do not think of yourself as better than other people
Humble
56
“Now the man Moses was very humble, more than any man who was on the face of the earth.” (Numbers 12:3)
Moses…”Humble”
We see proof of this almost as soon as Moses is called to a position of leadership. Responding to God’s charge to free the Israelites from slavery, Moses’ asserts, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and free the Israelites.”
These words reveal that Moses – despite his Palace upbringing, did not see himself as extraordinary or better than others.
57
Moses…“Humble”
Another example of Moses’ humility. The text describes Moses, descending from Mt. Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant.
Moses’ face, was radiant – glowing as a result of his encounter with the divine. The glowing face of Moses is a familiar image, captured time and again in artistic renderings of this biblical scene. But what might come as a surprise are the words that precede the Torah’s description of Moses’ face –and “Moses didn’t know.”
Moses was unaware that his face glowed! But how is this possible?A commentator suggests, “Moses was unaware of it because coming down the mountain he was holding the two tablets, and presumed that the light beamed not from him but from them – the light of the Torah.” In short, Moses was too humble to think that he was the source of the divine light.
58
Lincoln…”Humble”
Throughout the journey Lincoln appeased the crowds’ demand to hear from the future President.
In one speech, given on a cold and rainy February morning in Pittsburgh, Lincoln spoke on the economy. The speech didn’t lay out ground breaking policy – but it did highlight his astounding humility.
Before hundreds Lincoln remarked honestly, “I must confess that I do not understand this subject in all of its multiform bearings, but I promise you that I will give it my closest attention.”
59
Perhaps the most famous example of this is Lincoln’s response to a soldier who believed God would aid the Union cause.
Lincoln responded, "My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side..."
Lincoln…”Humble”
60
In order to achieve the soaring heights of our potential, we have to lower ourselves a bit.
We have to recognize that there are things we have yet to learn.
Humbly, we must seek out the advice of others, must practice the skills we have been taught, and check time and again to ensure that we are on a path of meaning and holiness.

61

How do you demonstrate humility with your friends and family?
Are you coachable? How do you respond to adjustments?

Adaptable
Definition of a•dapt•a•ble:
- able to adjust oneself readily to different conditions:
- adaptability of mind or character;
- the ability to change (or be changed) to fit changed circumstances
70
Adaptable
As situations and conditions change, we must adapt accordingly.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven.
Being adaptable = living above circumstances and conditions.
Philippians 4:11-13 I don’t say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know both how to have a little, and I know how to have a lot. In any
and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content—whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in
need. I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.
71
Adaptable
Adaptability = willing to be fashioned -- or refashionedIsaiah 64:8 But now, O Lord, Thou art our Father; we are the clay,
and Thou our Potter; and we all are the work of Thy hand.
Adaptability = humility.John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
Adaptability = yielding your will and mind to God and His plans.Matthew 6:10 Thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven.
72
Joseph…”Adaptable”
• thrown into a pit by his brothers…sold into slavery
• rose to leadership in Potiphar’s house
• accused of wrong doing…thrown into prison
• again risen to a position of leadership• released from prison and rises to leadership once more as second in command to Pharaoh.
73
Joseph…”Adaptable”
Lessons learned from Joseph:
- He overcame bitterness
- He overcame disappointment
- He continued to do “right” in spite of his circumstances
- He understood that life sometimes will be hard
- No matter your adversity…you can rise to leadership!

Grounded

• mentally and emotionally stable :admirably sensible, realistic, and unpretentious
• remains grounded despite all the praise and attention
87
Grounded… 2 Timothy 2:14-24
A Worker Approved by God
14 Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers.
15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, 17 and their talk will spread like gangrene.
19 But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.”
88
Grounded
20 Now in a great house (strong tower) there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable.
21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
89
Grounded
22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
23 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.
24 And the Lord's servant[ must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. 90
