Waste not, want not
An interesting question to ask at this
point would be, “Why?”. From a busi-
ness perspective the simple answer
is, if applied thoughtfully, conservation
practices make good economic sense.
Yes, it is the right thing to do, and sure,
there is a genuine sense of satisfaction
in doing the right thing, but at the end
of the day, “feel good” measures are
not enough. Avimor’s focused integra-
tion of practical conservation principles
into the larger Master Plan yield pos-
itive, measurable results for both the
developer, and the resident. “Conser-
vation” is just shorthand for “responsi-
ble resource management”… it’s good
business. Waste not, want not.
Water
Water is a precious resource in the
high deserts of southwest Idaho. Avi-
mor is tied into the Boise municipal
water system, so while scarcity is not
an issue, squandering water is not a
responsible option. At Avimor, manag-
ing this valuable resource is high on
our list of conservation priorities.
It starts on a grand scale with our
state-of-the-art water treatment plant.
Both the scale and quality of this facility
ensures that the Avimor community gets
maximum value for the water it uses. A
portion of the high quality effluent is used
for irrigation of parks, athletic fields, and
other common areas, while the excess
will be used to recharge on-site aqui-
fers, preserving the resource for future
use. In the long term, this converts a
potential waste stream into a relatively
inexpensive and reliable water reserve
for the development. This benefits the
developer in defraying irrigation costs,
it benefits the resident by providing up-
to-date sewer services (rather than sep-
tic), and it benefits the larger Treasure
Valley community by reducing Avimor’s
demands on the municipal system.
At the level of the individual home,
the picture gets even better. On av-
erage, every home we build in Avimor
use 30% less water than a comparable
home in the valley. Every home comes
standard with water saving applianc-
es, low-flow fixtures, and hot-water re-
circulation pumps so you don’t waste
hundreds of gallons a year alone just
waiting for the shower to warm up.
All Avimor homes include front and
back yard landscaping. By utilizing xe-
ric plantings, drought resistant turf, and
water-saving drip irrigation systems,
water consumption is reduced even fur-
ther. Implementation of these systems
translates into lower costs and more
convenience to the resident, resulting in
high customer satisfaction and loyalty.
