operation to several network elements by using Measurement Plans

• Measurement Plan can be activated to several network elements at the same time

• A subset of counters can be selected for each measurement type

• Schedule include specifying period and interval for each weekday

• Independent period definition per measurement and NE is possible

• Raw data isn’t normally stored for more than a couple of weeks

• Reporting on raw data can be very slow, depending on the report (e.g. 1-year-PLMN)

• Data mostly summarised in time and network dimension

• Reporter stores summaries on the plain network element counters, enabling very flexible KPI management

• Storage periods of summarised data is configurable to measurement level optimising storage capacity

• Busy hour summarisations based upon certain defined busy-hour criteria

• Further summarisations e.g. monthly level, quarterly, region-based are also possible

Enables end users to quickly browse the existing data in the databases

For troubleshooting, root cause analysis or just quick checks of network element’s behaviour

Sophisticated multi-dimension data mining capabilities (time, network and measurement specific e.g. circuit group)

KPIs that have been created with Report Builder are also visible in KPI Browser

Provides ad-hoc reporting capabilities with access to performance data at

counter and KPI level

KPI BrowserKPI Browser

•Enables end users to quickly browse the existing data in the databases

•For troubleshooting, root cause analysis or just quick checks of network element’s behaviour

•Possible to drill down from larger areas or longer time periods to ad-hoc information on badly performing cells.

•KPIs that have been created with Report Builder are also visible in KPI Browser

Interfaces & Standards

NetAct NetAct –– InterfacesInterfaces

. . .

All relevant interfaces and standards are supported

Support extended with the emergeof new network technologies

All Network Technologies, 2G, GPRS, 3G, IP, ... can be integrated to NetActQ3

Streams(ASCII)

SNMP CORBAXML

NetAct supports Open & standard compliant interfaces which are following selected standards and specifications published by major standardization bodies and industry forums.

Nokia currently sees the 3G Partnership Program (3GPP) as the most relevant industry forum for its technology domain in mobile networks. Therefore, the relevant specifications of the 3GPP Release 4 CORBA solution set have been selected as the basis for the standard compliant Nokia NetAct open interfaces.

In addition, the “OSS through Java” (OSS/J) initiative is seen as an important forum since Nokia believes, that the results produced by this forum will greatly increase the Next Generation OSS (NG-OSS) concept launched by TMF. While 3GPP will help in creating the technology domain, specific and standardized south- and northbound interfaces, the OSS/J initiative with the NG-OSS framework will help in formulating standardized interfacing policies to other directions and systems.

The operator processes of service assurance (fault & performance monitoring and reporting) and network development (radio configuration management) are within the functional focus of these interfaces.

A standard compliant interface is preferably used to integrate 3rd party 2G and 3G mobile systems into NetAct™.

MeasurementMeasurement Data Data Export FunctionalityExport Functionality

• After the measurement data collection processes in UMA have transferred the data files to NetAct, The measurement data is parsed and optionally filtered.

• Filtering is based on measurement types, for example.• The parsed and filtered data is sent to the Measurement Data Export.• The export functionality writes the data into a specified directory, where

it can be used by 3rd party applications or network management systems. • The data cleanup process deletes the old files from the directory after a

set storing time or based on disk usage.

Network DoctorNetwork Doctor BrowserBrowser• Nokia Reporter tools produce short and long term reports targeted at

all user profiles

• ND Browser has been designed specifically or users who are maintaining networks

• ND Browser provides easy to update reports over a web user interface in text form

• Access to ND Browser is restricted to the users that belong to the "ReportBuilder" group

• Network Doctor for BSS in UNIX continues as it is, user can decide whether to use ND Browser Web GUI or the old way

• ND for NSS is removed in OSS3.1

Network Doctor for BSS still works in UNIX without ND Browser, and has more reports than are available via ND Browser.

ND Browser is only a web UI and does not work without Network Doctor for BSS (which is optional)
