Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager is a service monitoring solution that can be used in many areas of service assurance. It is an effective and fl exible tool for calculating and displaying service quality levels, alerting users to problems in the services, prioritising fault investigation and follow-up Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager defi nes quality of service (QoS) based on speed, accuracy and availability of service.

With Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager you can:• gain real-time monitoring of

end-to-end services as perceived by subscribers

• constantly monitor and meet your SLAs

• gain support for services in multi-vendor and multi-technology networks

Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager integrates various data such as fault, performance and topology data from different sources (like management systems for the GSM network, for GPRS and IP networks). Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager utilises user-defi ned rules to determine the level of services and alert about problems in the services. This provides the operator with a clear end-to-end view of the services as they are perceived by the subscribers.

Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager helps you meet your service level agreements (SLAs), warning you when an SLA violation has occurred, or even before, allowing you to take action before there is a real problem. Reports of how the SLA has been met over a period of time are also available.

The fl exibility of Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager allows you to easily add new services and rules as you

offer new services to your subscribers. Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager supports multi-vendor and multi-technology networks: for example you can start using it today in 2G, and widen its use later to monitor GPRS and 3G services.

Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager architectureNokia NetAct Service Quality Manager offers generic functionality applicable to all network types. The platform comprises an inference engine, a geographical information system to visualise the level of services on logical and geographical views, a Web interface and data collectors from various sources. Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager also provides a toolkit that makes it possible for the operator to defi ne and monitor specifi c services. The toolkit consists of a service and rule editor, a view editor and open and documented interfaces for data collectors.

Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager in useNokia NetAct Service Quality Manager constantly updates and displays the level of quality of the monitored

services, through the value of attributes like availability, accuracy and speed. These service indicators are determined by associated rules that operate on information from various data sources. Any relevant data source can be used by the operator via an appropriate data collector.

Should the level of a service drop below acceptable value, the Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager provides automatic detection and notifi cation of the service problem, and gives information for the operator to start a root cause analysis. Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager also supports navigation to other network management applications for further analysis and troubleshooting of the service problem.

Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager can also show what is the level of service over a period of time, through service reports. This can be used among other things to prove that the quality level offered in an SLA has been met consistently.

Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager provides a Web access that enables distribution of service level data to various user groups in the operator organization, including customer care, internal product owners and business management, using industry standard Web browsers.

Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager servicesNokia can offer local support through its own worldwide organisation or its partners. This support ranges from fi rst line maintenance to full business consultancy. The delivery of Nokia

NetAct Service Quality Manager can include, according to the needs, general training, technical support, view and rule tailoring, training for rule creation and specifi c rule defi nition.

It is not necessary, however, to develop all rules from the start. Nokia also offers network technology and default rule packages, which help speed up the implementation of Nokia NetAct Service Quality Manager. Nokia currently offers standard packages for monitoring the following services: SMS, WAP, GSM voice, GPRS and 3G.
