On behalf of Goldhofer Aktiengesellschaft, I would like to welcome you at bauma 2016 in Munich – one of the world’s largest trade fairs, which only takes place every three years. More than 500,000 visitors from over 200 countries around the world will be coming to this event.

At bauma 2016, you can gain live, fi rst-hand and per-sonal impressions of our heavy-duty vehicles, which we have developed in close collaboration with our cus-tomers to fulfi ll a broad range of tasks. As an experienced manufacturer of heavy-duty ve -hicles, we offer the optimal solutions for all transport tasks and have the best vehicles for all requirements in our portfolio – from trailers and module combina-tions to vehicles for special applications, such as our FTV 300 blade transport device or the »Faktor 5« high girder bridge.

Since the market launch of »Faktor 5« in 2012, we have already sold eight of these amazing transport systems to customers around the globe. Making a repeat appearance at the trade fair is our MPA axle technology. Ever since its market launch at bauma 2013, this innovative axle concept has prov-en to be particularly reliable, robust and successful. As most people would surely agree, the term “world market leader” has the potential to make any company that advertises itself as such appear more reliable in the eyes of both regular and potential customers. But, while it may sound great at fi rst, it still begs the question: Which companies may actually and justifi ably call them-selves “world market leaders”? Because, as recently phrased in an online article of the German magazine “Wirtschaftswoche”: “After all, from their own point of view, a world-leading company for pins with red heads can of course be a world market leader – even if it’s just in that particular market niche”. Now, however, an ex-tensive study carried out by the University of St. Gallen has dealt exactly with that question: Which companies can actually be called “world market leaders” in their respective lines of business?

The study was conducted on the basis of clearly de-fi ned criteria – such as the location of the respective companies’ headquarters, their annual sales, export share etc. Its result is a corresponding “World market leaders index for Germany, Austria and Switzerland”, which differentiates between companies which are merely self-styled and those which are actual “world market leaders” with headquarters in German-speaking countries – thereby separating, so to speak, the “wheat” from the “chaff”. And it confi rms something that we actually already knew from the start, but are still happy to hear: Goldhofer – now also “offi cially” – belongs to the world market leaders in the area of mechanical and plant engineering (oversized cargo haulage vehicles).

Here’s another “offi cial fact” about Goldhofer: It’s not just our mostly longtime customers that like us and fi nd us trustworthy – our employees also seem to feel the same way: For the fourth time now and based on the most extensive query of its kind, the German magazine “Focus”, in collaboration with the market research institute Statista in Hamburg, identifi ed the “Best Employers of the Year”. This time, Goldhofer was among the companies selected and awarded as one of the best employers of 2016 within the “shipbuilding and rail vehicle, aircraft and other vehicle construction industries”.

This ranking was based on a representative employee query, which was carried out via the online career net-work XING. The assessment was supported by personal accounts that jobholders had posted on the employer assessment portal Kununu, with employees of all salary levels and age groups having the opportunity to assess their employers anonymously and without any outside interference. The focus of the query was on job satis-faction and on the willingness of employees to recom-mend their respective employer; other aspects, such as management style, salary and the public image of the employer were however also taken into account.

At bauma 2016 in Munich, we present to you the brand new »ADDRIVE« – the innovation par excellence in the area of heavy-duty modules. The new »ADDRIVE« is the perfect combination of the 6th generation of towed modules and our company’s long experience and know-how in the area of self-propelled modules. »ADDRIVE« is an intelligent solution that brings together the benefi ts of a towed module with those of a self-propelled module while fulfi lling the highest demands in terms of a wide range of possible applications as well as in terms of tractive force, speed, availability and economics. The bottom line is simply more effi ciency and an optimal fl exibility for your fl eet.

The one feature of the »ADDRIVE« that probably stands out the most is its extremely high fl exibility in terms of the range of applications it can be used for, because it is always optimally applicable – both as a self-pro-pelled vehicle and as a towed module. For its users, this means a signifi cantly lower vehicle mobilization effort and therefore also a signifi cantly improved cost-effectiveness in daily use, right from the start.

This is because, with the »ADDRIVE«, transferring the cargo from a road transport vehicle to one or several self-propelled vehicles – which, depending on the re-spective road conditions, is sometimes necessary more than once with certain transport projects – is a thing of the past. Even for the fi nal positioning of the cargo, reloading is no longer necessary. And the system is

also very useful for crossing bridges, where the »ADDRIVE« can be applied as a towed module until it reaches the bridge and then as a self-propelled vehicle with active tractive force when crossing the bridge. In case of need, the total weight of the transport is thus signifi cantly reduced – and bridges with lower load parameters can be safely crossed.

The »ADDRIVE« can be completely disconnected from the hydro-mechanical drive system, which means that there is no more oil fl ow in the towed mode. This, in turn, presents a whole set of advantages, because no oil fl ow also means no resistance and no heat gene-ration within the system – and therefore no oil-related wear and a signifi cantly lower overall maintenance effort. With the »ADDRIVE«, even stopping when driving uphill – which is sometimes necessary with conven-tional transport solutions in order to cool down the system when it is overheated – is no longer required.

Moreover, when using the »ADDRIVE« as a towed module, the power pack can – if the transport task permits it – also be removed and “left at home”. This means that the deadweight of the module is signifi cantly reduced and that it can be used like a “normal” bogie (up to 80km/h) – while all of its other features are of course maintained, such as the extreme bending moment for concentrated loads or the tried-and-tested ball- bearing race ring for optimal load distribution.

In addition, further combinations are possible to im-prove the application fl exibility of the »ADDRIVE« even more: The system can be combined with the complete SL family and with most vehicles with pivot bearings.

In some cases, the powerful »ADDRIVE« can even avoid the need for an additional tractor unit – e.g. in mountainous regions with the respective uphill grades, where the system can be applied together with a con-ventional tractor unit in order to safely and effi ciently get the cargo “over the hump”. And driving is also safer in general, because the »ADDRIVE« is the world’s fi rst heavy-duty module equipped with an especially fast-responding electronic brake system (EBS). With the »ADDRIVE«, Goldhofer is therefore once again at the forefront of innovation.

The presentation at bauma 2013 has already shown very clearly: Our multi-purpose vehicle STZ-L RM is particularly popular in the construction industry. There-fore, this semi lowloader with wheel recesses for the transportation of construction machinery is, of course, also presented at bauma 2016. Thanks to its lowered side extensions, the variable loading platform and the low, but also variable loading height, the STZ-L RM with wheel recesses is suitable as a universal transport concept for the most diverse loads – for example, for the often very large and high vehicles that are used in the construction industry. It is this wide range of

possible applications that makes the STZ-L RM so attractive for many users. Additional advantages are its high payload at low 5th wheel load and the proven and robust Goldhofer steering system, which allows for high maneuverability as well as low tire wear and therefore low maintenance costs. With its very compact and robust design as well as its optimum load center of gravity for permission-compli-ant maximum axle and 5th wheel loads, the STZ-VP/MPA 4 offers high fl exibility for the transport of various items in the payload class range from 45t to 50t. The minimum number of components in the bogie leads to extremely low maintenance requirements and a long service life of this versatile drop deck vehicle.

The STZ-VP/MPA 4 is particularly suitable for the trans-port of high-dimensioned loads, but is also ideal for cargo with low ground clearance. Its front bogie can be lifted by up to 600mm – a function that is primarily of use during transport when having to cross, for example, a roundabout or curbstone. Moreover, the rear bogie is equipped with our MPA axle technology, which has already proven its worth many times. Among other things, it allows for a low height difference between the drop deck and the bogie, which is a great advantage especially when loads are protruding the bed.

Speaking of the rear bogie: Different wheelbases (1,360mm or 1,510mm) can be chosen to meet the permission requirements of the respective region, which makes it considerably easier to receive road permission. Our MPA axle technology, however, has to offer even more: In addition to the high maneuver ability and the high maximum axle load of 12t, its benefi ts also include a low overall ride height, a high driving stability and, last but not least, a low tire wear.

The fl atbed of the STZ-VP/MPA 4 is not only extend able, but also allows the easy drive-on of construction machin-ery with low ground clearance thanks to ramp versions with low drive-on heights. When you use the STZ-VP/MPA 4, the drive-on problems known from some conventional drop deck vehicles are therefore a thing of the past. More-over, this transport solution also avoids time-consuming problems during police inspections – because the provided simulation program easyLOAD does not only help the user to ensure correct loading, but is also a police-approved documentation tool.

Our THP/SL product family can look back on a long success story: Introduced in 1978, it has been avail-able for more than 35 years. Today, over 15,000 THP/SL axle lines are in use around the globe. »Faktor 5«, the innovative high girder bridge concept from Goldhofer, stays on the road to success and conquers the transport world. Since its fi rst public presentation on the Goldhofer premises in June 2015, we have already sold eight of these impressive con-structions to customers in various regions of the world – including North and South America, India, Thailand, Great Britain and Sweden. And we’re very sure that there will be more to come.

One of the main reasons for the success story of »Faktor 5« is its sensational payload-to-deadweight ratio: Because, in comparison to many conventional high girder bridges, our »Faktor 5« can handle a pay-load of 500t with a deadweight of only 100t. This makes it highly effi cient especially for the transport of very large and heavy cargo, such as, for example, generators and transformers for the energy industry.

But high effi ciency is of course not all that defi nes our »Faktor 5« high girder bridge. As a true Goldhofer quality product, it has a lot more to offer: Its modu-lar design, for instance, enables easy mobilization, trouble- free container shipping and fl exible expand-ability. Depending on customer requirements, the number of powered axles on both PST modules exhibited together with the »Faktor 5« at bauma 2016 can be individually and fl exibly confi gured. This enables the best possible adjustment of the vehicles to the trac-tive force required for the planned transport projects as well as to the respective customer budget. The PST modules are also quite impressive in terms of safety, reliability and maintenance effort: Closed load-ing platforms, for instance, ensure workplace health and safety while oil fl ushing pipes on the hydrostatic drive provide better cooling performance and thus not only keep the engines from overheating but also minimize wear. Both the PST/SL and the PST/SL-E can be driven permanently under full load without running hot. And fi nally, the tried-and-tested, robust and high-performance components of the power packs also contribute signifi cantly to the vehicles’ long service life and maintenance of value.E

Type PST/SL-E – for precise maneuvering of the heaviest loadsWhile the PST/SL is equipped with mechanical steer-ing, the PST/SL-E comes with electronic multiway steering and an extreme steering angle of ± 135°. This cutting-edge technology enables a wide range of perfectly synchronized steering modes – from front and rear axle steering to carousel and counter steering to crab steering, where the PST/SL-E moves diagonally to its longitudinal axis. Even free combinations and steering synchronization of several modules as well as the steering synchronization with mechanically steered vehicles are possible with electronic multiway steering.

No matter if in terms of payload, tilt stability, bending moment, steering angle, tractive force or speed – with its PST/ES-E-type self-propelled module transporters, Goldhofer achieves signifi cantly better values than other heavy-duty modules and leads the way with all key parameters.

A very good example for this is the PST/ES-E 4 285. For many heavy-duty transports – especially on and in the vicinity of construction sites – the tilt stability of the respective transport system is an essential factor. With its high tractive force of up to 165kN per power ed axle line, its high bending moment, its electronic multiway steering with a steering angle of ± 135° and especially its innovative hydraulically adjustable track width, the PST/ES-E 4 285 offers an ideal mix of performance, load-bearing capacity, fl exibility and safety on any terrain.

For the transport of wind turbine components, Goldhofer always offers the most economic vehicle confi guration, e.g. for the transport of rotor blades. If the last kilometers to the construction site cannot be driven with a semi lowloader, it’s time to use the FTV 300 blade transport device (e.g. in combination with a self-propelled vehicle from Goldhofer). With this de-vice, long rotor blades can be safely transported even on extremely demanding routes – for example when wind turbines are being built in mountainous terrain. Thanks to the FTV 300, mountain passes with tight bends and extreme uphill grades can be mastered and small roadside villages can be safely driven through.

With the FTV 300, swiveling past or driving through under obstacles (e.g. trees, houses, bridges or over-head power lines) is enabled by a steplessly adjustable hydraulic blade tilt angle of up to 60° and an unlimited blade pitch of 360° (i.e. the rotation of the blade around its longitudinal axis). This is also a win for the environ-ment, because it reduces the number of trees that have to be felled in preparation of the transport. More-over, building activities for access roads can also be minimized – which not only saves infrastructure costs, but time as well.

The FTV 300 can take up rotor blades at the hub connection. The load-bearing capacity of the system covers all standard rotor blades up to a length of 60m and a load moment of 300mt. With a track width of 1,810mm, the PST/ES-E 4 285 has a lateral stability which is 25% higher than that of a con-ventional SPMT with a track width of 1,440mm. And with its basic width of 2,430mm, it can be transported quickly and cost-effi ciently to the site of operation. More over, the speeds of the PST/ES-E 4 285 are optimized for drives both with and without a full load. Power packs are avail-able in four different performance levels of 150, 207, 360 and 390kW, two of which already meet the emission stan-dard “Tier 4 fi nal”. And, as a result of the low initial costs for the applied standard truck tires, running costs can be reduced by up to 50% in comparison to the forklift truck tires usually applied in this vehicle segment.

In other words: PST/ES-E-type vehicles are the ideal so-lution when high application performance is needed.
