COMMUNION

LESSON GOAL:

I will learn to boast in the Lord

LESSON OVERVIEW:

Children will know that boasting in the Lord means that you speak in agreement with what He has done for us. God wants us to boast in the Lord about being cleansed from sin, about being healed from all sickness and disease and about being made like Jesus.

MEMORY VERSE

2 Corinthians 10:17

The Scriptures say, "If you want to brag, then brag only about the Lord."

STORY TELLING TIME

THE BRAGGING DRAGONFLY

Whizz! Whizz! Whizz! The blue dragonfly whizzed back and forth across the pond. "I’m the most beautiful insect in the garden," Billy said. "I’ve got gossamer wings that look like they belong on a fairy. My body is slender and sleek and I make sounds as I fly around. Ants can’t do that, neither can butterflies."

He flew over a ladybug. "Hey, ladybug. Don’t you wish you were as wonderful as me?" The ladybug looked up at him and scoffed.

An ant came walking out from behind a rock. "Hey, ant. Look at me! I’m beautiful. You’re an awful boring red color. Too bad you aren’t as great as me," Billy boasted. The ant looked at the dragonfly and shook its head back and forth.

This went on all day long. Billy flew near the fish in the pond. He shouted things at them. He whizzed around the flowers and bragged about himself to the bumblebees and beetles.

One morning Billy flew down to the pond. It was a quiet day. The water was calm. "Oh look! I can see myself in the pond. Don’t I look beautiful? Look at my wings. They’re especially perfect today!"

Farquahard, the fish, stuck his head out of the water and said, "Billy, you’d better stop boasting about yourself. We are all wonderful in our own way. You aren’t better than any of the rest of us."

Billy started to laugh. "Surely you can’t be serious. Just look at me and then look at yourself. You aren’t blue and beautiful. You’re purple and you have scales and you’re slimy."

"I’m a fish. That’s the way fish are!" Farquahard said. He was so angry that he slipped back under the water and disappeared.Another dragonfly happened to be whizzing by. "Hi Billy," she said. "Do you like to fly down by the pond? It’s dangerous down here."

"What? How could it be dangerous? Don’t be so silly. I come down here every day to see my reflection in the water. Just look at me. You’re looking very…orange….today," he sneered.Doris looked angrily at Billy. "I am orange and I like it that way. I am the same color as the flowers. You’re not very nice. I’m leaving," she said and flew away.

"Good riddance," Billy said. "There’s only room here for one dragonfly."

Billy whizzed around the pond, stopping now and then to admire his reflection. Just then a frog hopped onto one of the lily pads. Billy didn’t see it. Its red tongue shot out of its mouth and grabbed Billy. Soon it was munching him all up.

Farquahard watched from below the water. He started to laugh. "You’re not so beautiful any more, are you, Billy?" He blew some bubbles and swam away.

Life at the pond was much quieter after that. The ladybugs, ants, bumblebees and beetles could come for a drink without having to worry about Billy and his boasting!

SYNTHESIS

Proverbs 27:1“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know

what a day may bring forth.”Billy the blue dragonfly always boasted only

about himself… and it brought his destruction.

The Lord said in Psalm 150:6 “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord”

All living creatures should shout praise to the Lord for He already has given us everything and all He desires is to hear you praise and boast about Him

NOW SIT DOWN KIDS AND LISTEN TO THE LESSON

LESSON 1: BOASTING

The word boast means to “brag about”. God’s creation like us, are a creation of beauty and splendor. We are made this way so that the world will see how great God is. In everything we do, we must remember that we should boast about God. To God be all the glory!

ASSIGNMENT:

All of us are given talents… please be ready to present your talent or tell a story about

your talent next week.

You may bring props with you! Let us show what our dear God has given us.

CRAFTS FOR CASTLE KIDS

This craft will remind you of God’s beautiful creation. After making this craft, you may hang it on your window so that every time the wind blows, it will remind you to boast about God!

Materials: Construction Paper (different colors)PuncherScissorsGlueMarkerString

1. You need 2 sheets of origami paper. Start with the first sheet.

2. Fold the paper in half diagonally.

3. Now fold the right bottom edge over to the left bottom edge.

4. This is how it should look now.

5. Open your triangle up again until it looks like this. There is a crease in the middle

6. Now fold the first edge to line up with the center crease.

7. And fold the second edge as well and now your piece looks like this.

8. Fold now the edges lined up with the center outwards and match the edge with the outer edge of the piece.

9. After folding the second side, it now looks like this.

10. Take your second sheet of paper and repeat steps 2-9 again. Use the butterfly template (link can be found here  Origami Butterfly Craft Project and create 2 identical butterfly bodies.

11. Place glue along the butterfly body’s neck and place the 2 wing pieces on the glue and press to stick.

12. Apply glue to the body part underneath the wings at the head and below the wings. Press the second body piece over it making sure the edges match. This way, the butterfly can be seen from the front side and back side.

13. Draw eyes and mouth on the butterfly und use a circle hole puncher to punch paper pieces that can be glued onto the body if you would like.

No matter who you are, we are created by God as a unique individual. Each one has it’s own talent, ability, strength etc.

We see each individual as important and a gift of God to us, not a threat. In everything we do and whatever things, talents or abilities we have no other name will be glorified except the name of God. We are created to glorify and Praise God.
