What is CAL?

➢ CALS are a licensing requirement from Microsoft for users to access Microsoft Servers.

➢ Required for user/device to access windows server

-- Does not include unauthendicated internet access

Types of CALs

➢ User and Device for file and printer like services➢ RDS for remote desktop access

User CALs

➢ You purchase a CAL for every user who accesses the server to use services such as file storage or printing, regardless of the number of devices they use for that access.

Device CALs

➢ With a Device CAL, you purchase a CAL for every device that accesses your server, regardless of the number of users who use that device to access the server

User Profiles➢ Normal Profile

Normal Profile

➢ It's a default Profile

➢ Normal profile is also called as local profile

Roaming Profile

➢ Roaming profiles users are able to get their desktop environment on every computer which is client of a domain controller.

➢ Configuration of Roaming User Profiles involves 2 processes: Sharing a Folder and Configuring Domain Users’ Profile page.

➢ User can login any pc without data loss.

Mandatory Profile

➢ Normally when a user logs off their computer, their personal settings are changed. So if a user changes the color of the desktop, this change will be saved when they log off.

➢ However, you may not want any changes saved when a user logs off. In such cases, you can implement a mandatory user profile.
