What Students Have Learned

Here’swhat’shappening…..Whatagreatstartwehavehad!Wehavebeenbusygettingourselvesorganized—ourdesks,binders,schedules,etc.Adjustingtotherigorof3rdgradeandourlunchandrecessschedule(11:35-12:45)hasbeennoeasytaskforourthirdgraders,butmosthaveallrisentotheoccasion!

Thispastweek,studentshavelearnedhowtoworkeffectivelyandrespectfullytoreachagroupgoal,andparticipateincollaborativediscussions.Studentsalsolearnedhowtouseanadditiontabletofindthesumoftwoaddends.Studentshaveexpressedtheirunderstandingofevenandoddnumberstohelpthemidentifyadditionpatterns.

What Students Will Learn

SocialStudies:Wewilllearnabouttherolesandresponsibilitiesofeffectivecitizensandpracticesassociatedwithdemocraticprinciples.

Science:Wewillbestudyingengineeringandtechnologyandphysicalsciencethisyear.Studentswilldiscoverrelationshipsbetweenlivingthingsandthenaturalenvironment.Theywillalsoexplorerelationshipsamongforcesrequiredtochangeanobject’smotion.

Reading:Wewillcontinuetoaskandanswerquestions,identifycharactersandtheiractions,anddecipherbetweentheauthor’spointofviewandthereaders.Readinggroupswillbeginwithinthenextweek.Mini-lessonsongrammarandspellingpatternswillalsobepartofourroutine.

Writing:The“Writer’sNotebook”willbeintroducedasaplacetorecordthoughts,reflections,stories,etc.Writingaboutpersonalexperienceswillbethefocusthisweek.

Math:Wearedivingrightintomath!Studentswilldemonstratetheirproficiencyintherelationshipbetweenroundingandplacevalue.

out.Keepgoing:Changetheageofthemaincharacterandactthestoryoutagain.Whatwouldbedifferent?

• Workcollaborativelytoidentify5numbersthatwouldroundto400.Discussthestrategiesusedtoroundthenumbers.

The third grade team is working to help your child be respectful, responsible and ready for success. Here are our list of rewards to students as they receive “Barnsley Bucks” for their positive behavior.

one night on either reading or math homework.
