How is evolving the conceptionof cultural heritage
1. From monuments to people2. From objects to their functions3. From preservation to use and sustainable
development
A more dynamic, open and inclusive conceptionof cultural heritage,
including traditions, customs and local products
Cultural heritage and Communities(Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society - Faro, 2005, art. 2)
Cultural heritage is a group of resources inherited from the past which people identify […] as a reflection and expression of their constantly evolving values, beliefs, knowledge and traditions. It includes all aspects of the environment resulting from the interaction between people and places through time.
A heritage community consists of people who value specific aspects of cultural heritage which they wish, within the framework of public action, to sustain and transmit to future generations.
Knowledge Navigation?L'intelligence collective: Pour une anthropologie du cyberspace
We are entering “a post-media era in which communications technologies will serve to filter and help us navigate knowledge, and enable us to think collectively rather than simply haul masses of information around with us. Unfortunately, although the promoters of the information highways may be aware of the problem, they remain mired in discussions about bandwidth.”
Pierre Lévy, 1994

Citizen Engagement and Empowerment
A strategy could be the activation of bottom-up processes aiming at the wider possible engagement of communitites, if possible with the support of experts (top-down) – to ensure quality. At the sametime it has to be helped the spontaneousparticipation of citizens and stakeholders, empowering their informaton literacy skills.

In some cases, the single volunteer everyday work could be renforced by specific projects, to activate the communities on unified goals
An Italian good practice to be inspired to is the projectWiBrugherio, launched by a littleMunicipality of Lombardia Regionin 2014. Let’s se it in Wikipedia
In 2017 on an International scientific Journal some scholars published the results of theirresearch, Wikipedia matters.
The goal was to evaluate the economic impact of user-generated information regarding touristicdestinations. In particular, Their experiment verifiedwhether enhancing the quality of Wikipedia articles on some touristic destinations may influence turists’ choices.
The results demonstrate that the existence of good Wikipedia articles, in different languages, high the visits till 9%.

What is our plan for today? Organize 5 working groups with the undergraduate
and graduate, Italian and international students
Start enhancing the quality of some Wikipedia/WikiVoyage articles (see next slide)
The goal is not to complete the task but to set it up correctly, using the available sources: the communities will go over if there will be interest
The undergraduate students from Macerata have already practiced Wikipedia and Wikivoyage and drafted last days some activities to be taken out, so they can play the role of support and traineeship with international students.
Each group shoud have a minimum of one wikipediaregistered user
