How to…

Wikis are one of the tools available in the VLE that allow students to contribute to and collaborate in a course.

Wikis are co-authored documents that anyone can contribute to.

Go to Control Panel > Course Tools > Wikis.

Wikis can be for a can be for a Course (for all students) or Group (shared between group members). Course Wikis can be created here. Group Wikis are created in Control Panel > Users and Groups > Groups. (See the How To guide on Using Groups).

Click Create Wiki.

Add a name, descriptive information (such as the purpose of the Journal) and choose whether to make it available and when.

You can also choose whether students are able to contribute to and comment on Wiki content.

The Wiki can be assessed if appropriate.

Click Submit.

Click on Create Wiki Page to add content.

You can view number of pages and comments in the About information.

Use Participation Summary to see what has been added or amended.

The Participation Summary shows which users have contributed what content, when and what impact this has on the overall Wiki.

Wikis are created in the Control Panel and made available in one of the content areas (e.g. Learning Materials). Click the Tools menu then choose Wikis.

You can either link to the Wikis page or directly to a specified Wiki. You can also create a new Wiki here.

Add a name, descriptive information (such as the purpose of the Wiki) and choose whether to make it available.

A link to the Wiki will appear in the content area, at the bottom of the list of resources. You can re-order its position by clicking and dragging. Students can now click on the Wiki title to access it.
