Sanctuary: the Spiritual Heritage Documentation ProjectconductsfieldworkacrosstheCanadianprairies.thisworkcomesatacrucialtimebecausethedistinctive,onion-domedukrainianchurcheswhichdottheprairieland-scapearerapidlydisappearingastheresultofdemographicchange.thedocumentationproducedbythesanctuaryprojectwillformapermanentrecord,housedinthepeelprairieprovincescollectionoftheuniversityofalbertalibrary.thisrecordwillprovidethedataneededbyscholars,churchdecisionmakers,andspecialistsinheritagepreservation.itwillalsoleadtoimportantscholarlystudies.thebeginningsoftwosuchstudieswillbepresentedatthistalk.John-paulhimkawillchronicleprairieiconsandico-nographersandnatalieKononenkowilltalkaboutukrainianCanadianritualpracticesandtheirevolutionovertime.
