Help the 4th & 5th grade Bible School classes
The food pantry needs our help. Please help us fill the FCC food pantry with starches (pasta, mashed potatoes, rice, etc.). We will be collecting food items this Sunday, September 9th. Bring your donations to church with you and leave the sacks beside your car. The Bible School classes will pick them up for you. If it is raining, please bring them into the foyer.
The Gospel According to Greg
Greg Taylor Greg Taylor Greg Taylor Greg Taylor greg@clintonfcc.com September 1983. Illinois’ football team was just beginning a magical season that would end at the Rose Bowl, where they would beat each of the other 9 Big Ten teams in their “Run for the Roses.” Ronald Reagan was President and the Soviet Union was still the Soviet Union. A gallon of gas was less than $1. Arnold was just a young struggling actor, Michael Jackson was just a (somewhat) normal singer and Michael Jordan was just a good college basketball player. Ernie and I were one week into high school—mere freshmen. That’s when Kent and Merla Hickerson began a ministry with First Christian Church in Clinton, Illinois. FCC was averaging just over 400 a Sunday in worship during this time, and the past four plus years had been difficult at best for our church. The leadership at FCC asked the Hickersons to come and lead – and the rest is history! Today – 29 years later – Clinton FCC has built a new sanctuary and refurbished much of our building. Hundreds have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and Kent has made a impact in our community that words do not do justice to. Many consider him the community chaplain. Most in Clinton have been touched by his Pastoral Care ministry one way or another. Kent and Merla are living illustrations of the impact of long term ministry! As is our tradition at FCC, Kent preached both services on Sunday at FCC on his ministry anniversary. Kent did a wonderful job communicating the truth of God’s word from the book of Hosea. What a wonderful message – even though we have been unfaithful, the Lord our God loves and forgives – and welcomes us home. If you missed Sunday’s sermon, don’t miss this message. It has been the message of Kent’s 29 year ministry at FCC – the Lord loves you, and welcomes you home! Thanks Kent and Merla for all you do – may the Lord bless you!
The Gospel According to Greg (cont’d)
As I close this week, let me highlight four September events you need to be aware of: First, Sundays in September: This month is Staples Month at FCC – we’ll be looking at three of the “staples” of our church – beliefs we hold that help define who we are. Here is the plan for this month: September 9 – “We are saved ONLY by the Grace of God” September 16 – “The Word of God (the Bible) is our ONLY
Authority” September 23 – “We remember Christ every week through
the Lord’s Supper” Second, Saturday September 15: Beth Moore simulcast at FCC – a FREE event due to the generosity of a Christian man in our community. It is FREE, but we need you to sign up if possible – call the church office or see Karen or Leslie on Sunday for more info. Third, Wednesday September 26: FCC’s Got Talent, Part II. Come out for a light meal at 5:30 pm in the Family Life Center as we kick off Families at First for the fall, and then join us in the sanctuary at 6:30 pm for a taste of all the talent roaming the halls at FCC. Finally, Sunday September 30: One service Sunday at FCC at 9:30 am, as we ordain Carson Cheatham into the Christian ministry. You will NOT want to miss this Sunday! Have a great week – see you Sunday! Greg

God alone can water a thirsty soul. Don’t be deceived into thinking that anything else can satisfy you fully and completely. Chasing after the wrong things will always leave you disappointed, and disappointment opens the door of depression. “Days of trouble must be days of prayer.” - Matthew Henry October 3rd we’ll enjoy music from the “Salty Strings” and hear the songs and sounds on a variety of instruments. November 7th we’ll have an Elvis experience from Dave Stovall of Pekin, IL. He’ll be playing a lot of Elvis’ music and will delight some of our guests in singing some of our favorites. It should be a great day of entertainment. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 TLB Still room for the Bement trip which is always a joy to go on; that’s on the 14th of September. Then on the 18th of October, we’ll be traveling to Kimmswick, Missouri, for a day in an old-fashioned community and good food and also a riverboat ride back to St. Louis. Our trip to Branson is Nov. 12-15. We’re trying a new place to stay and a new bus company. Seven shows and food galore are awaiting us. “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.” - Martin Luther King Get a new mindset. Believe that all things are possible; with man some things may be impossible, but we serve a God who created everything we see out of nothing. Give Him your nothingness and watch Him go to work. All He needs is your faith in Him. He needs for you to believe, and He will do the rest. “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” Luke 18:27
Praying for College StudentsPraying for College StudentsPraying for College StudentsPraying for College Students
A new college year has started. Pray that college students would come to trust in the one, true God and would have the strength to run the race that is before them. I remember Chad Herzog saying that college is a mission field. Pray that our college students are able to make choices based on what is true and good. Pray for the campus ministries that their outreach would change hearts and lives for Christ. Thank God for men and women willing to serve the Lord on college campuses. Pray for students, like Carlee Fields, studying in a foreign campus, pray for safety, good health and for faith to carry them through their days away from home. Praise God for being with us no matter where we are!
