PRAYER CORNER “Going into the house they saw the child with Mary,
his Mother, and they fell down and worshipped him.”
We also kneel down before Jesus,
God hidden in humanity.
We tell him once more that we do not want
to turn our backs on his divine call,
that we shall never separate ourselves from him,
that we shall remove from our path
all that may be an obstacle to our fidelity,
and that we sincerely wish
to be docile to his inspirations.”
~St Josemaria Escriva; Epiphany Homily,
January 6, 1956
This week, set aside time to spend with the infant Jesus
in your heart. Like the magi, come before Him. Pray
St. Josemaria's words until they become your own.
A NOTE FROM YOUR PASTOR
Merry Christmas everyone! Let's remember the season lasts till January 10th this year, that is till the
Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Let's keep the joy and peace alive in our hearts the whole of the season.
Keep those Christmas trees and decoration up. It always breaks my heart to see trees laying in the streets on
December 26th!
Whether conscious of it or not, we all look for something special this time year. If it didn't seem to
happen yet, keep your eyes and hearts open! Let's remember the special grace of Jubilee Year of
Mercy. Meditating on the reason for the season, availing ourselves of confession as requested by Pope
Francis and doing the works of mercy, may this season and this new year be grace filled not just for us as individuals, but
also for our war weary world. There are so many refugees from war torn regions. Availing ourselves of the grace of this time
of Mercy may our world receive the Prince of Peace, and experience us as his ambassadors. Fr. Joe
CREDO FAITH FORMATION! Reminder
Classes resume on
Wednesday, January 6th.
USHERS NEEDED! Since our recent stewardship drive, several ushers decided
to step down. We cannot thank them enough for their years
of dedication! To be mindful of everyone's time there will
now be 4 ushers per Mass. It is our desire that each usher
only usher once a month and to eventually, once again,
have 6 ushers per Mass. In order for this to happen we are
in need of 26 more ushers to step forward. 16 for Saturday
evenings at 4 pm and 10 for Sundays at 9 am. Can you
make a once a month commitment to help your parish by
becoming an usher? If so call the office at 432-4848.
FULLY ALIVE ADULT FAITH
FORMATION HELP NEEDED!!
It was suggested that we have a potluck each month before
our Adult Faith Formation session. To make this happen we
need volunteers to coordinate the potluck each month. The
potluck would be at 5:15 pm and the session would begin at
6 pm. We would also like to provide childcare. The whole
family would attend the potluck. After the potluck the
parents will attend the session at 6 pm while the teens could
provide childcare. This could be an opportunity to earn
church service learning hours for school or Confirmation.
Call St. John parish office at 436-6380 if you are willing to
help with either the potluck or the childcare.
A NOTE FROM MICHAEL PICARD Greetings! It has been a while since I last had an update for
everyone. In October I left Mundelein Seminary to discern
God’s call for me outside of the seminary. I am no longer a
seminarian but I am still around the diocese, currently I am
working for SPIRITUS which is based in Menasha. It is a
group of young people putting on retreats for the Catholic
youth in Wisconsin. Every now and then I will be around
the Cathedral so if you see me please feel free to stop me
and talk. I want to express my gratitude for the Cathedral
parishioners during these last few years while I was in
seminary, it is truly a blessing to be part of this community.
Know that I will be keeping you in my prayers and I
humbly ask for your continued prayers for me on this new
path the Lord is leading me on. Thank you all again and
God bless. -Mike Picard
