  The Sugar Act created severeproblems thatcoincidedwith thepostwar depression. It causedfear among the colonists. Thisfear they experiencedwas due tothelossofexporttrade. Fearinturn caused hostility and newtrade regulations provokedprotestsandopposition.

  In 1765, several assembliesformed, endorsed petitionsstating how the Sugar Act wascausingeconomichardships.Thepetitionswereignored.

  TheStampActof1765receivedamonumentofobjections. Itdidnot matter to the royal authorities the colonists objected to theSugar Act or the StampAct. Regardless of that fact, Parliamentpassed the Stamp Act, angering the colonists. Town meetingsensued where the people assembled in attempts to declare theiranger. This caused the relationship between Britain and itscoloniestobequestioned.

  PatrickHenrywhohad justbeenelected tothe legislature at the young age of twenty‐nine in the spring of 1765, had, with theassistanceofheVirginiaHouseofBurgesses,adopted measures that denouncedparliament’s taxation and allowed thecolonists to only be taxed by their electedrepresentatives. On August 14, 1765, mobviolenceultimatelydestroyedtheStampActinAmerica.
