Data collection – BOHS survey

• BOHS funded project• Using BOHS Registered Consultants to collect

data and contextual information• We developed:• Spreadsheet for collecting contextual information• Guidelines for data quality

• Data were checked by IOM

3

Results for BOHS – ART data collection

• Three consultants contributed data• 18 exposure scenarios

• Pharmaceutical industry (5 scenarios)• Rubber (4 scenarios)• Metal industry (3 scenarios)• Woodworking (1 scenarios)• Dental laboratory (1 scenario)• Construction (1 scenario) • Manufacture of labels (1 scenario)• Histology laboratory (1 scenario)• Paint manufacture (1 scenario)

• Total 143 Measurements with contextual data

4

Case 1: Scenario description…

• Manufacturing of pharmaceutical products. • Handling pharmaceutical active ingredients in

powder form (discharge of mixer into kegs or IBC, and check-weighing)

• Activities include Mixing, Blending, Filling kegs and IBCs, Tablet compression, and Film coating. Some process steps were automated and carried out inside closed equipment, with others requiring manual intervention.

• LEV and other engineering controls, plus PPE were used depending on the activity

Summary…

• ART is relatively straightforward to use• Follows a logical scheme• Allows for the easy input of data to update the

mechanistic model prodictions
