Dear Parents and Carers,
Another busy week here at St Mary’s, with a moving Harvest Service and a cheery
sea of yellow to end the week. A lovely ‘mellow yellow’ day reminded us all of the
importance of looking after our mental health and well-being and this is something
both children and adults continue to focus on.
Thank you to the 17 parents/carers who have already filled in Ofsted’s ‘Parent View’.
For those of you who have not yet got round to it, please do – it helps spread the
message about our lovely school and gives you the opportunity to have your say.

Thank you for your ongoing support and have a lovely relaxing weekend.
Mrs Osborne and the staff team.
Year 6 Sports Leaders
Yesterday our Sports
Leaders spent a
training day at Herts
Sports Village. They
learnt the skills
required to be a leader
and took part in
activities such as
archery, boxing and
curling. They also met
inspirational rugby
players Maud Mir and
Alysha Corrigan. They
represented St Mary's
wonderfully and Miss
Gill was extremely
proud of them!
A message from Jonathan and a polite request
On Sunday at 10.00am an All Age Service will take place at St Mary's led by the music
group. All welcome, please contact Jonathan on revjagordon@gmail.com if you would
like more information.
Also, please could parents and carers keep children on the paths through the
churchyard and not climb the trees. The churchyard is a special place and we would
be grateful if you could encourage your children to respect this. Thank you.

BRILLIANT BOOKS TO READ!
Hello Families of St Mary’s,
This week I would like to recommend Emily’s Legs by Dick King-Smith.
This is a great little story, just right for children who are starting to read short chapter
books. It has the usual humour and wit of Dick King-Smith
books and a useful theme which will help children think about
why and how bullying happens.
Emily is a delightful spider who gets bullied because she is
different. She lives with her ninety-nine brothers and sisters
and wins all the races on sports day but when they notice she
is different to them her life becomes much harder.
It is also quite a nice read aloud book, if you think your child
would like it but not quite manage the text yet.
If you would like to recommend a brilliant book please write
about it and give it to your teacher to give to me.
You might end up in the newsletter!
Happy reading!

Meet: Mrs Delderfield
Hello, my name is Mrs Delderfield. I have been the
crossing patrol (lollypop lady) at St Mary’s for five
years. I love working at St Mary’s and seeing the
children’s smiley faces every day. I am a very busy
bee, I work in another local school as a midday
supervisor and manage a local charity shop.
When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with
my husband, 3 daughters and 4 grandsons. 2 were
born this year just 3 weeks apart !
I like spending time in my garden and relaxing in
the hottub.
Year 5’s trip to Hudnall Park
A few comments from Year 5:
On our trip to Hudnall Park we started with listening to the surroundings in the woods.
Then we did some snap as we had to find six objects of nature. The objects were a
stone, a feather, bark, stick, a leaf from an Ash tree and a leaf from a Beech tree.
After that, we had to make a hammock and ours worked very well. Next, we put a
shelter over the top made of tarpaulin. After, we got free time and we got to make a
spark with flint and steel. The there was a real
fire and we got roasted marshmallows. BY
MAV
When we arrived Michelle (our tour guide) greeted us with a bright smile. We started
off by going into a closed area in the woods. It was closed so that the deer couldn’t
get in and eat the baby trees (although one of them got in and wouldn’t get out). We
started off by sitting down and saying our names and favourite animals. BY BETSIE
We all got a go at making a fire –it was an actual fire and it was great! Daniel
