35th Trustee meeting held The 35th Southern University Trustee board meeting was held on June 23, 2012 at University conference room recently. SU Trust Chairman Al-Haj Khalilur rahman presided over the meeting. Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammad Ali, Founder & Treasurer Mr. Sarwar Jahan, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Sharifuzzman, Trustee Co-Chairman Mr. Liakot Ali Chowdhury, Al-Haj Shafique Uddin Ahmed, Mr. Lokman Hakim, Prof. Kamal Uddin Chowdhury, Mr. Abdus Salam, Al-Haj Ferdous Almgir and Mrs. Ishrat Jahan was also took a part of discussing. In the Trustee board meeting the committee has approved different important agenda like permanent campus, Budget of 2011-12 fiscal years, income and expenditure statement and miscellanies.

14th Academic Council Meeting The 14th Academic Council Meeting of Southern University Bangladesh was held on 12th July 2012, under the Chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Ali.Founder & Treasurer Mr. sarwar jahan, Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Sharifuzzaman, Dean of BBA Prof. Dr.Abdul Muktadir, prof. Digital Entrepreneurship Fair

With a vision to build up future entrepreneurs, a two days long digital entrepreneurship fair was held at Southern University recently. The fair was organized by Southern Career Planning & Development center, this fair was inaugurated by Founder & Treasurer of the University Mr. Sarwar Jahan , Pro Vice- Chancellor Dr. Sharifuzzman, Dean of Business

Administration Professor Dr. Abdul Muktadir, Head of Business Associated Professor Ishrat Jahan faculties of various departments were also present. In his inaugural speech Mr. Jahan said “The combination of theoretical and practical knowledge is an essential

requirement to the success of the education and we have been endeavoring continuously in this regard. He hopes that the experience of this fair will enrich the learning of the students

and enable them to develop their entrepreneurship skills. The students of the University furnished stalls with their own invented various types of digital commodities like solar system, power saver, digital security lock, sensor, e-learning etc. The stall named “Six

sense” and “Digital power saver” were able to draw the special attention of the visitors.The fair was ended in the midst of greater festivity and jovial atmosphere.

Certificates were awarded among the participant after the ends of fair. The total program was sponsored by “Samsung” & “Intel”. Digital Entrepreneurship Fair overall supervised By Asst. Professor Kazi Nazmul Huda & Coordinator of SCPD.

MOU Signed among SUB, EPML and RCC Southern University Bangladesh, Equity Property Management Ltd and Rotary Club of Chittagong Signed an MoU on “Initiated a training program to create skilled manpower for the property development sector” at Southern University Conference room. University Registrar Dr. Mantazul Islam Chowdhury, Managing Director of EPML Kazi Ainul Hoque, President of RCC signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organization. Founder & Treasurer of the University Mr. sarwar Jahan, Pro-VC Dr. Sharifuzzman, Director of EPML Mahfuzul Hoque, The 72 day training program titled ‘Construction Supervisory Course’ will be conducted for 20 trainees in each batch.

Seminar on ‘Supply Chain Management’ A daylong seminar on ‘supply chain management, counseling, social dialogue’ was held at Southern University Bangladesh recently. Southern Career Planning & Development Centre (SCPDC) organized the seminar. The seminar was inaugurated by Founder & Treasurer of the University Mr. Sarwar Jahan , where the keynote presenter was M Golam Newaz, General Manager (HR) of Pacific Jeans Group and SM Sorfuddin Mahi, Manager (Procurement planner) Mobil Jomuna Ltd. Bangladesh.The presenter was to provide an overview of the supply chain management, Counseling & Social dialogue with a digital presentation.A questionnaire session was also held where multifarious questions from the participants were replied by the presenters. Later, the certificates were awarded among the participants of the seminar.Kazi Nazmul Huda Asst. professor of Business Administration overall supervised the seminar.

INTER UNIVERSITY CULTURAL COMPETITION Southern University cultural team has joined in the Inter University Cultural Competition which is organized by ‘Joyadhani’ –A cultural team of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).

Orientation Held of BBA Summer Semester-2012 The orientation program of BBA Summer Semester-2012 was held at the University hall room recently. Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sharifuzzaman graced the event as the chief guest. Dean of Business Administration Prof. Dr. Abdul Muktadir addressed the audience as the special guest. Head of BBA Mrs. Ishrat Jahan & Asst. Professor Kazi Nazmul Huda also spoke at the occasion. In his address, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sharifuzzaman said- “In order to cope with the competitive global market, the students of business administration must keep abreast of latest developments in all branches of the knowledge other than business studies”. After that a graceful cultural programmed were arranged. Lecturer of Business Administration Mr. Jamir Uddin overall supervised the program.

Orientation Program of Civil Engineering held The orientation ceremony of Civil Engineering Dept. was held at University hall room recently. The program was presided over Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Sharifuzzaman where the program was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Ali as Chief Guest. Head of Civil Engineering Prof. Mozammal Hoque and Registrar Dr. Mantazul Islam Chowdhury was also present the ceremony with among others. At first Registrar Dr. Mantazul Islam welcomed the fresher and informed about the rules and regulations of the University.Then In his address Chief Guest said “it’s very important for the students to enrich their knowledge to keep pace with the changing developments in education field well as others sectors”. Pro-VC said to newcomers “we are delighted that you are coming to Southern University and hope that your studies here will be successful and enjoyable”.Later a flamboyant cultural program were arranged where students of Civil Engineering acted different rolls.

Observed World Environmental Day 2012. Southern University Bangladesh observed world Environment day -2012 along with greater festivity and enthusiasm. On the occasion University brought out a colorful rally. University Founder & Treasurer Mr. Sarwar Jahan inaugurated the rally where Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Sharifuzzaman. Dean of BBA Prof. Dr.Abdul Muktadir, Registrar Dr. Mantazul Islam, academic stuffs, & students was joined the rally. This year the theme of world environment day is “Green Economy: Does it include you?” In a short message Mr. Sarwar Jahan said ‘all we are the part of environment. If environment is destroy we must be destroy, so we have to need more conscious to protect our environment’. He urge to the students, establish awareness campaign for this purpose. The rally rolled across different streets of the city with colorful banner, festoon & placard. Rally was supervised by Dr. Shakhawat Ullah Co-coordinator of General Education.

Fresher’s Program of Law The fresher’s receptions program of Department of Law was held at University auditorium. The program was presided over by head of the department Asst. Professor Atiqur Rahman. Program was inaugurated by Prof. Mohiuddin Khaled and guest speaker was Md. Zaker Hossain, former dean of Law , University of Chittagong.

Workshop on ‘A Journey to Career’ A workshop entitled ‘a journey to career’ was held at Southern University Bangladesh recently. Southern Career Planning & Development Centre (SCPDC) and BD Jobs.com was jointly organized the workshop. Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr. Sharifuzzaman inaugurated the workshop as Chief Guest where the keynote presenter was Mr. Prokasroy Chowdhury, Managing director BD Jobs.com. In his speech Chief Guest said ‘students should be conscious enough about his career in the present competitive global market. It is more important to the students to select before which career path is most apposite for them’. Later, Keynote presenter demonstrated different aspect of career guideline. Then he showed how to make a CV & how to face a job interview. The total program was coordinated by Coordinator of SCPDC.

Every one waiting dinner to serve, top executive of a reputed company, discussing and trying to explain the problem with education in Bangladesh and teaching profession as a whole. He argued, "What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?"

To pressure his point he said to another guest; "You're a teacher. Let’s be honest. What do you make?"

One guest, who had a reputation for honesty and politely replied, "You want to know what a teacher makes?" "Well, a teacher makes kids work harder than they ever thought they could.

"he or she make kids sit through 45 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 without an I Pod, Game Cube , TV or movie."Guest replying with smile and again said do you want to know what really they make?"

"they make kids wonder. "They make them how to raise question."Teacher makes students to apologize and mean it. "Teacher makes them have respect and take responsibility for their actions. Teach them to write and then make them write. "Teacher make them Read, Read, Read. A teacher make his or her students show all their work in math and science, so make sure pupils can use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.

"Teacher makes students to learn everything they need to know about culture and language while preserving their unique cultural identity."Teacher makes classroom a place where students feel safe.

Afghan Delegates visit the Southern University A group of delegates of Afghanistan Health Ministry & Pharmaceuticals department visited Southern University Bangladesh recently. At that time they inspected the campus, classrooms, laboratory & library of the university. They also exchange opinion with Students and faculties. Meanwhile the delegates paid a courtesy visit to Vice chancellor Professor Mohammad Ali & Founder & Treasurer Mr. Sarwar Jahan. During discussion session the delegates expressed their gratification about quality of education & infrastructure of the University. Vice Chancellor thanked delegates to come Southern University. The visitors hoped that in future a hearty relation will build among Southern University and Afghan health ministry & pharmaceuticals departments.

Observed National Mourning Day Southern University Bangladesh observed National Mourning day marking 37th martyrdom anniversary of Bangubandhu Sekh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner, honor and solemnity. The day’s program began with hoisting of national flag half-mast and back flag, discussion session and offering special prayers. Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sharifuzzaman, Dean of Business Administration Prof. Dr. Abdul Muktadir, Registrar Dr. Mantazul Islam Chowdhury, Prof. Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Prof. Mohiuddin Khaled, Prof. Shamsuzzaman Khan spoke the discussion session.
