Uncapped young all-rounderPawan Negi was the lone newface, while injury-prone pacerMohammed Shami was alsonamed in the 15-member Indiansquad as the selectors todaysought to strike a balancebetween youth and experiencefor the Asia Cup and theTwenty20 World Cup.

A brilliant clean sweepagainst Australia ensured that thecore of the team was leftuntouched by the selectors, whoopted to retain veterans likeYuvraj Singh, HarbhajanSinghand Ashish Nehra.

Young players such as JaspritBumrah and Hardik Pandya,who impressed in the recentseries against Australia, alsofound a place in the squadannounced by BCCI SecretaryAnurag Thakur after a meeting

of the selection committee heretoday.

"This is the best combinationof 15 we can think of,"Chairman of the committee,Sandeep Patil, said in a pressconference after the meeting.

The selectors have takensome risk by picking the 25-year-old Shami who is stillundergoing rehabilitation for ahamstring injury. The latestbreakdown, which happenedduring last month's trip toAustralia, came after a lengthylayoff forced by a knee injury.

Shami has been picked sub-ject to fitness and should he failto recover, India would beallowed to name a replacement.

"Shami has 30 days beforethe World T20. We have goodtime in our hand to take a call onShami. He has been one of ourbest bowlers. For now, I can onlysay that he has recovered andstarted bowling," he said.

Among the ignored were thepace duo of Ishant Sharma andBhuvneshwar Kumar. WhileIshant has not represented Indiain this format since 2013,Bhuvneshwar endured a ratherunimpressive run in Australia inthe ODIs before injury forcedhim out of the T20s.

Rising batsman ManishPandey, who featured in the ODIseries against Australia, was alsoleft out of the team to be cap-tained by Mahendra SinghDhoni.

The Asia Cup is scheduled tobe held in Bangladesh fromFebruary 24 to March 6, fol-lowed by the World T20 fromMarch 8 to April 3 in India.

Patil expressed his faith inDhoni's leadership despite therecent mixed run.

"We have no right to tell peo-ple when to retire, we have totalfaith in Dhoni's captaincy. He isthe right person to lead in AsiaCup and World T20," Patil said.

The 23-year-old Negi, whobowls left-arm spin and is a

decent batsman, was rewardedfor his consistent performance inthe domestic circuit.

Negi was also a part of thesuspended Chennai Super Kingsteam in the IPL.

That Negi will be a con-tender for the World Cup teamhad become obvious when hewas selected for the three-matchseries against Sri Lanka thismonth.

Ajinkya Rahane also found aplace in the squad ahead ofPandey, who hit a match-win-ning century in the last ODIagainst Australia. Pandey got hisbreak in Australia owing to aninjury to Rahane and eventhough he made it count, theselectors opted to go with themore experienced player.

"Manish Pandey performedexceptionally well in Australia,his name was also discussed,"Patil said.

"Harbhajan has been a part ofthis team. The selectors, theteam management and the cap-tain have faith in Harbhajan, hisrecord and the contribution hehas made to the team," Patilexplained.

Patil said the team manage-ment had done its share of exper-imentations during the Australiatour.

"We experimented duringAustralia and discussed whichplayers would be good forreplacements. For the T20 for-mat, where you won't get toomuch time, we discussed a fewnames. In the shorter format,horses for courses has worked,"he said.

NEW DELHI, Feb 5:

The BCCI today said it is"not looking for an Escaperoute" but needs to time toimplement the Lodha Comm-ittee recommendations onreforms in cricket administra-tion, in comments that came aday after the Supreme Courttalked tough on the issue.

The Supreme Court had toldthe Board to fall in line andimplement the sweeping reformssuggested by the LodhaCommittee. Board SecretaryAnurag Thakur said the BCCI has"every right to deliberate" on thepros and cons of the report beforegoing ahead with its recommen-dations.

"The BCCI is not looking foran escape route. We believe intransparency and accountability.In the last nine months, we havedone things which would indicate

that we are in the right direction.The Lodha committee has recom-mended many things but everymember has right to look into therecommendations," BCCISecretary Anurag Thakur said ina press conference, here today.

However, when asked aboutthe logic and plausibility of someof the recommendations,Thakur's reply was: "I willreserve my comments on that."

But it was clear that the topbrass of BCCI is not entirelyhappy with the recommendations.

"In 1983, when India won theWorld Cup, we did not have anymoney to pay our championteam. But now it is different. It isnot that everything that has hap-pened in the last 30-40 years inthe BCCI has been all wrong. Sowhile taking any steps, thatshould also be taken intoaccount," Thakur said.

Thakur also said the BCCI'slegal team has been looking intothe matter and there will bedeliberations on the findings onFebruary 7. In fact, a SpecialGeneral Meeting of state associ-ations will be summoned in thethird week of February and afterthat a collective viewpoint willbe given by the parent body.(PTI)

For his research,Dr. Thakur collected the datafrom nine districts of HimachalPradesh with a sample of 900B.Ed students.

His findings showed thatemotional intelligence and self-concept of B.Ed students washigher than average and was notinfluenced by the nature of theschool whether public or private,urban or rural, and the type ofschool-boarding or day school.There was no significant differ-ence in emotional intelligence ofB.Ed. students of HimachalPradesh in relation to sex, socio-economic status of the familyand the nature of the familywhether it's nuclear or joint.

Dr. Thakur highlighted thefollowing implications of thestudy that despite the recognitionof the importance of promotingemotional intelligence inschools, teacher curriculum hasbeen slow to incorporate emo-tional literacy into their struc-ture.
