Setting Up the Remote CommanderBeforeyou canstartusing theCommander, you mustfirstsetit up.This manualdescribes everything you need toknow toset up theCommander, including:Installing thebatteries.Presetting theCommanderwiththe codes foryour TV, VCR and

Cablebox.

About Presetting the CommanderTheCommanderis presetat thefactory tooperate Sony brand TVsand Sony brand VHS VCRs.If youreusing theCommander witha Sony brand TVand a Sonybrand VHS VCR, you wontneed topreset theCommander beforeyou startusing it.Tosetup theCommandertousewithother(non-Sony)manufacturers components, ortouse witha cablebox, youllneedtofollow theinstructions inthis manualtopreset theCommanderwiththecorrectcodenumberforyourcomponents.

NotesTheCommandercan besetup tooperateonly onecomponentper

button unless theircodenumbers happentobethe same. Forexample, you cannotsetup the Commandertooperatea Sony TVand aPanasonicTVsimultaneously (becausethey usedifferentcodenumbers).

You may notbeable tooperateeven a Sony brand componentwiththefactory setting.In sucha case, follow theprocedureinSetting theCode.

Installing the BatteriesSlideopen thebattery compartmentand inserttwo sizeAA (R6)batteries (notsupplied).Besuretolineup the]and} onthebatteries withthe] and}onthebattery compartment.

When to replace the batteriesUndernormalconditions, batteries willlast up tosixmonths. If theCommanderdoes notoperateproperly, thebatteries mightbewornout. Replacethe batteries withnew ones.

NotesReplacebothbatteries withnew ones.Donot takemorethan 20 minutes toreplacethebatteries; otherwise,

yoursetting of thecodenumbers willbeerased.

Notes on Batteries

Do notmix old batteries withnew ones ormix differenttypes ofbatteries together.

If theelectrolyteinside thebattery should leak, wipethecontaminated area of thebattery compartmentwith a clothandreplacethe old batteries withnew ones. Toprevent theelectrolytefrom leaking, removethe batteries whenyou plannot touse theCommanderfora long period of time.

Setting the CodeFollow thesteps 1 and 2 below foreach componentyou planto usewiththe Commander.

Step 1: Entering the Code Number

1 Seethe tables inComponentCode numbers, and find thecodenumberin doublefigures forthedesired component.If morethanonecodenumberis listed, usethenumberthatslisted firstto completethe steps below.Forexample, if youresetting up a Philips VCR, you would usethecodenumber13.If yourcomponent isntlisted, seeSearching fortheCorrectCode.

2 Press and releasethe S (Set)button.

3 Press thebutton of thecomponent thatyou wanttosetup.

4 Enterthe components codenumber.Forexample, if youreentering thecodefora Philips VCR, you would press andrelease 1, thenpress and release 3.

5 Press and releasethe ENTERbuttontostorethecodenumberintheCommanders memory.

6 Goto Step 2: Checking if theCode NumberWorkst ofinishsetting up.

If you press a wrong button in step 4Press and releasethe S(Set) buttonand thengoback tostep 3.

Step 2: Checking if the Code Number Works

1 Poweronthecomponentyou wanttosetup.

2 Aim theRemoteCommanderat thecomponent and press a buttontocheck if thatbutton works.Forexample, press the POWERbuttonto seeif it works onyourcomponent.

3 Check thattheother buttons of theCommanderis operating thecorresponding functions of thecomponent.

If the Commander Doesnt Seem to Be Working...First, try repeating thesesetup procedures using theothercodes

listed foryour component(see thetables inComponent CodeNumbers).

If aftert rying allthecodes listed foryour component you stillcannotget theCommandert owork properly, try thesearchmethod described inSearching forthe CorrectCode.

Searching for the Correct CodeIf youvetried allthe codenumbers listed foryour componentandyou stillcannot getthe Commanderto work (orif yourcomponentsis notlisted intheComponent CodeNumbers tables), try thesesteps.

1 Poweronthecomponentyou wanttoset up. Inserta tapeifnecessary.

2 Press and releasethe S (Set)button.

3 Press thebutton of thecomponent ontheCommanderthatyou wanttosetup.

4 Press and releasethe CH+button. Thenpress and releasethe POWERbutton.

5 Repeatstep 4untilthecorrectcodenumberis found.Eachtime you press the CH+buttonand then the POWERbutton,a new codenumber willbe transmitted.Keep trying untilyourcomponent operates by receiving thetransmitted signalfrom theCommander(e.g., thepower turns off,the CH+functionworks, playback starts, etc.). Bepatientas youdothis; itmay take50 or60 tries untilthecorrectcodenumberislocated.

6 Whenthe correctcode is found, press andreleasethe ENTERbuttonto storethe codenumberint heCommanders memory.

7 Check thattheCommander is operating theother functions ofyourcomponent by pressing thecorresponding buttons ontheCommander. If they seem tobeworking properly, youredonesetting up theCommander.

If thecomponentdoes notoperate properly, repeatsteps 1 to6 andsearchfor anothercode. As thesearching always starts from 01, itwillstop againatthesamecodeas thelastsearching. Pass thecode

and continuesearching untilthe nextcode by whichthe componentoperates.

If you stillcannot getthe Commanderto work properly, seeTroubleshooting.

Operating a Component

1 Press thebuttonof thedesiredcomponenton theCommander.

2 Pointthe Commanderdirectly atthe component.

3 Press thebuttonforthefunctionyou wanttouse.

SeeRemote ButtonDescriptions forcompletedescriptions of thebuttons onthe Commander.

Notes on Using the Remote CommanderBasically, usethis Commanderin thesameway as theCommanderssupplied withyourcomponents.Using this Commanderwillnotincrease thefunctions of your

components. Thefunctions of theCommanderarelimited tothefunctions of thecomponents themselves. For example, if yourTVdoesnothave a MUTINGfunction, the MUTINGbuttononthis Commanderwillnotfunction withyourTV.

Somefunctions of thecomponentmay not work withthis Commander.If yourcable boxcancontrol volume, besureto setits volumeswitchto

a medium position. If thevolumeonthe cableboxis turned downcompletely, you willnot beableto adjustyourTVs volumewiththeCommander.

Operating a VCR

1 Tosetup theCommander.2 Press beforeoperating a VCR3 Toswitchthesignals

supplied totheTV(fromantenna orVCR).

4 Tochangethechannel.Forexample, tochangetochannel5, press 0and 5(or,press 5and ENTER).

5 Todisplay theon-screenmenu (Sony VCR only).

6 Toplay.7 Torewind.8 Torecord, presswhile

pressingr.9 Toturnonand off.0 Tofast-forward.! Tostop.! Topause.! Channelup: +

Etape 1: Entre du code

Etape 2: Vrification du fonctionnement du code

1 Mettez lappareilque vous souhaitez prrglersous tension.

2 Dirigezla tlcommandevers lappareilet appuyez surunetouchepour vrifiersi cettetouche fonctionne.Appuyez parexemplesurla touche POWER pourvrifiersi elleeffectiveavec votreappareil.

3 Vrifiez siles autres touches dela tlcommandeoprent bienlesfonctions correspondantes delappareil.

Si la tlcommande ne semble pas fonctionner...Essayez dabord les autres codes dela listeindiqus pourvotre

appareil(voir les tableauxCodes dappareils) enrptantlesmmes oprations.

Si, aprs avoiressayt ous les codes indiqus pourvotreappareil,la tlcommandenefonctionne toujours pas correctement, essayezla mthodedcritedans Recherchedu codecorrect.

Recherche du code correctSivous avez essaytous les codes indiqus pourvotreappareil etquela tlcommandene fonctionnetoujours pas (ou silun desappareils nestpas mentionndans les tableauxCodesdappareils), effectuez les oprations suivantes.

1 Mettez lappareilque vous souhaitez prrglersous tension.Insrez unecassette sincessaire.

2 Appuyez surla touche S (rglage)etrelchez-la.

3 Appuyez surla touchede latlcommandecorrespondant lappareilquevous souhaitezprrgler.

4 Appuyez surla touchedeslection decanal CH+etrelchez-la. Puis, appuyezsurla touche POWER etrelchez-la.

5 Rptezltape4 jusqu ce quevous ayez trouvlecodedappareilcorrect.A chaquepressionsurla touche CH+suiviedunepressionsurlatouche POWER, unnouveau codedappareil sera transmis.Continuez jusqu ceque votreappareil fonctionnequand ilreoitlesignal transmis parla tlcommande(par exemple, lappareilestmis hors tension, la fonction CH+esten service, la lecturecommence, etc.). Soyez patient; 50 ou 60 essais peuvent trencessaires avantquelecodecorrectsoitlocalis.

6 Quand lecode correctest localis, appuyezsurla touche ENTER(entre), puis relchez-la afindenregistrerlecode dans la mmoirede latlcommande.

7 Vrifiez sila tlcommandeopreles autres fonctions devotreappareilen appuyantsur les touches correspondantes delatlcommande. Sila tlcommandesemblefonctionnercorrectement, sonprrglage esttermin.

Sile composantne fonctionnepas correctement, rptez les tapes 1 6 etcherchez unautrecode. Commela recherchecommencetoujours par01, ellesarrtera denouveau surlemme codeque lorsdela dernirerecherche. Ignorez lecode etcontinuez larecherchejusquau codesuivant quicontrle lecomposant.

Sila tlcommandene fonctionnetoujours pas normalement,reportez-vous Guidede dpannage.
