FOUNDATIONS
Tennis Foundation
St. Peter’s College emerged the Triple Champs at the Inter School Tennis Tournament which
ended in June 2015. Peterites bagged the championship for the 9th successive time in 11 years.
Winning all age groups. The dedication and hard work of
players of age groups under 15, 17 & 19 headed by the
College captain, Davishka Ranasinghe played an immense
role in the consistent performance. The intensity and
discipline in the coaching programme headed by Mr.
Dinith Pathiraja, his coaching assistants and the support
extended by Mr. Bernard Jesuthasan, Master in charge
has been a vital source of strength over the years. The
Tennis Foundation sponsored the College Tennis T shirts
for all age groups.
In recognition of this momentous achievement the
Peterite Tennis Foundation organized a gala event to
felicitate all 30 players of the 3 winning teams. The
felicitation was held on 24th July 2015 at the College Hall
with the patronage of Rev. Fr. Rector Trevor Martin. Other
distinguished guests, priests, members of the OBU and the Tennis Foundation, former tennis players as
well as 100+ current tennis players and their parents were also present at the occasion. The event was
followed by refreshments and a fellowship.
The Foundation also sponsored an
under 16 boy for a training camp to
Thailand to tour with the Asian
Tennis Federation (ATF) team. Due

to drop out of the tour, but the
Foundation intervened and made
that dream a reality.

Football Foundation
Peterite Football shines again in
Gold & Silver in 2015 and filled the
Trophy Cabinet. During July to
September, the most highlighted
fact was the representation of
four under 19 Peterites in the Sri
Lanka Schools’ Football Team
which toured China for the Asian
Schools Football Tournament.
The St. Peter’s College Football
Foundation fully sponsored these
players for the tour. In addition,
five of our players toured Bangladesh with the Sri Lanka under 19 team. During October to December
period Peterites performed exceptionally well with the return of the five National – Peterite Players into
the business in School Level with the remaining lads of Peterite Team. Their target was to secure the title
of the Josephian-Peterite Silver Jubilee encounter which was held on the 23rd October at CR & FC Grounds.
The St. Peter’s College Football Foundation and the Josephian Advisory Committee had jointly organized
of the Encounter with tremendous support from both Rectors and other school authorities. It was really
a Jubilee in every sense. The Trophy was named as ‘‘Very Rev. Fr. Joe E. Wickramasinghe and Very Rev.
Fr. Stanley Abeysekara Challenge Trophy’, and after a 5 year wait St. Peters College emerged victorious
over the spirited Josephians, three goals to nil, to win the 25th Big Match, leading the series with 13 wins
to 11 and one shared jointly. In the junior matches the U13 team drew the game 0-0, while the Peterites
grabbed the match in the U15 category 2-0.
The Peterites also excelled in the shorter-format of the game. They won the Indoor Futsal Soccer Carnival-
3 organized by Emma Sports Event Management in collaboration with Austasia Sports & Leisure Club
which was held in August at Austasia, Thalawathugoda. They repeated the success at the 7th Joes Futsal
Soccer Carnival, the biggest futsal carnival in Sri Lanka organized by St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10
which was held on 31st October. While SPC U19 Team emerged Cup Champions, the U15 Team were Cup
Runners-up in their age group, the U13 team Plate Semi-finalists and little U10s also performed
promisingly at the said carnival.
The junior team also titled as District Champions at the U15 Samaposha All Island Schools Football
Tournament – 2015 in November.
19 | Old Peterite Newsletter Volume 03 2015
In the Under 19 Kotmale Invitation Schools Tournament second edition, St. Peter’s College dominated all
their group stage matches which they won comprehensively and ranked Top in the Group-A. The
tournament was postponed to year 2016 by the SLFF and the organizers due to various reasons and will
be recommencing in the first quarter in 2016.
The Peterite Team excelled with classy football, a well-balanced team which possessed top of the bracket
talent and played with purpose and determination in every game they played. The opponents’ strengths
and strategies were not adequate to defeat the well-set Peterites at most times. The season is continuing
and expectations are very high for the Peterites to do well in the upcoming Tournaments as well. The
school authorities will be right behind them with the support of the Coaching Staff and the Football
Foundation of St. Peter’s College to achieve success.
