Transcript of Oca Website Update for the AGM 2012

GENERATING NEW INTERESTAlthough the Home Page will have a link to the members area, it

will focus overwhelmingly on two things: Generating new interest among families in attending

accredited camps in Ontario with a means to find these camps.

Generating new interest for camps, suppliers, and potential sponsors to become accredited and commercial members.

#1

ELEGANT DESIGNIn the design of the entire website and in particular the homepage,

elegance and cleanliness will be preferred over comprehensiveness. And a feeling of “campiness” will be important… but not at the expense of creating a feeling of

professionalism.

#2

ONE DATABASE!The infrastructure of the database will be one that coordinates

office functions with online presence i.e. one database for camp information, mailing lists, event registration, the standards etc.

#3

CMS WITH MANAGEABLE PERMISSIONS

The content of the entire website will be one that can be fully managed by lay staff, accessible from any computer, and

customizable to a variety of permission settings e.g. giving the standards committee access to edit the content related to standards.

#4

ENGAGING FOR MEMBERSThe website will provide a means for OCA members to dialogue and

become engaged online.

#5

NOT REINVENTING THE WHEEL!Except for 1 custom component: The website will utilize free and

sometimes fee based plugin and/or utilities – i.e. the goal: to be immune to claims that we attempted to reinvent the wheel.

#6

SEARCH!The 1 custom component? The creation of a Camp Search Utility –

one that helps parents find just the right OCA camp(s) after completing all or part of the available search criteria fields.

#7THE ONE CUSTOM

COMPONENT?

DEVOTED SECTIONSAttention will be paid to ensure that a section of the website attends to the

individual needs of all stakeholders:Camp Members, Individual Members, Associate and Honorary Life Members,

Commercial Members, The General Public, Prospective and existing camp Parents and Campers, Young People seeking Employment, Educators,

Guidance Counsellors, Social Workers, Special Needs Support Workers in the community, and The media in particular in times of crisis.

#8

SEO, FB, AND FLEXIBLEThe website will be Search Engine Optimized, Social Network

Compatible, and flexible so that marketing campaigns can be easily integrated.

#9

BETTER. FAR FAR BETTER.To be worthwhile, the new website will have to be far far better than the old website

especially in its ability to drive traffic to the site so that it can: Generate more business for you

• Tell the story of summer camp• Clearly define the advantages of choosing an accredited camp in Ontario

Unify our many many systems. Create new opportunities for communication and engagement between members
