Sustainable development

• "Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.“

• Sustainable development is about finding better ways of doing things, both for the future and the present.

• Renewable energy sources like wind power and solar power are excellent examples of development strategies that are sustainable. Their sustainability is defined by their reliance upon infinitely available resources that are naturally occurring, constant and free to access.

RECYCLINGRecycling is the process of separating, collecting and remanufacturing or converting used or waste products into new materials.

• To Make Environment Clean

• Conservation of Materials

• To Save Energy

• Recycling saves resources

• Recycling helps protect the environment

Reduce Garbage in Landfills Recycling is an important way to help us achieve sustainable development.

We can recycle many resources, including:

• glass

• metal

• paper

• plastic.

Renewable and Non Renewable resources

Why Dams are necessary

• Dams are important because

• provide water for industry

• water for irrigation

• water for fishing and recreation

• water for hydroelectric power production

• Dams also serve people by reducing or preventing floods.

Solutions to deforestation

Tourism

DeforestationCauses

• Agricultural activities:

• Urbanization

• Desertification of land:

• Mining

• Fires

• Wood for furniture

Effects

• Climate Imbalance:

• Increase in Global Warming:

• Soil Erosion:

• Wildlife extinction:

SiltationEarthy matter, fine sand, or the like carried by moving or running water and deposited as a sediment in dams and reservoirs.

Effects

• Reducing storage capacity

• Decreasing electricity production

• Destruction of reservoirs and dams

Why does siltation occur? There are many land-based activities that increase siltation into rivers, streams, and coastal waters and finally finding their way onto reef ecosystems. Land clearing activities such as logging and mining cause significant erosion and runoff of sediments into coastal waters due to the removal of stabilizing vegetation
