Poor habits of disposing domestic waste. Garbage that is

dumped by the residents is cleared very rarely.

Hence, the garbage piles up and was turning into a breeding yard for mosquitoes & diseases.

We started observing people and the way they dump their domestic waste, starting from our homes.

We were able to identify that there was no designated place where in one can dump the garbage.

We wanted to have a dustbin which can hold the garbage for days.

We discussed the idea with our mentors from Bhumi and later approached the ward counselor to understand the feasibility.

We prepared awareness charts and took out a rally to explain the ill effects of garbage.

We were to reach out to more than 100 families in our colony.

We performed skits at multiple locations with in our colony to explain what a piled up domestic waste can cause.

We collected signatures from the residents pledging to dump the garbage only at designated places.

The dustbin was ready and we started off dumping the garbage only in the dustbin.

Though the change was slow, it spread fast and people started using dustbin one by one.

We initially thought it was others who were really dumping the garbage irregularly.

Later realized it started from our homes too.

We understood what it takes to change, we transformed, we collaborated ,started off to make a difference and in this process

WE DID CHANGE….!!

Kids made us realize and implement what we should have done long time back.

- Mrs. Kundalakesi, Ward Member

We were surprised by the energy and dedication that they had in transforming their place. We understood what ‘garbage’ was to them. They took it so very personal..!!
