CAP 842 and CAP 831

• Both are C-172

• Both have the newer TDFM 136 CAP Radio

• Both have a Becker DF (N97779 has newer Software Version)

• Differences are somewhat significant, but it’s still a C-172

• CAP 842 is a C-172/S - CAP 831 is a C-172P

• CAP 831 has 40 Gal Tanks (Keep Filled to 40 Gal)

• CAP 831 has Empty weight of 1599 Lbs

• CAP 831 has a GMA 350 H Audio Panel

• CAP 831 has GTN 650 with NAV/COMM

• CAP 831 has newer SL30 Radio for COMM 2

• CAP 831 does not have AutoPilot or Electric Yoke Trim

CAP 831 Comm/Nav 1 NAV/GPS Switch

With COMM /NAV Radio in GTN 650 There are two ways to

Change the CDI (Course Deviation Indicator) in CAP 831

1) Using the GTN 650

GPS in Default Nav

2) OR - Using the CDI Button at

the bottom of the G500 PFD

1) GTN 650 - With COMM /NAV Radio built in to the GTN 650

Push Main Button to

NAV Frequencies

Set Nav Frequency to

VOR or ILS

Final Thoughts

• This MAY all seems like a lot of Work, but the Equipment Learned from N97779 will greatly assist with Conversion to the G-1000 Nav III Aircraft

• A complete understanding of Operations and shortcuts reduces Aircrew Heads Down time!

• Someone is always Flying the Aircraft and Someone is always looking out to “See and Avoid”!

• Do not Punch a Button or turn a Knob without having a pretty good idea of what should happen!

• If you can’t easily find the process/info in the Air –STOP and come back and put time on the Simulator, or in the aircraft on the Ground or in the Hanger!
