MOBILE GAMES EVOLUTION - As mobile gaming market reaches its momentum, with expected $70.4 billion in revenues in 2013, we take a glance at games and devices that marked the history of mobile.
1994 - Tetris | Hagenuk MT-200. This variant of Tetris was the �rst ever mobile game, created by Hagenuk developers team.
1997 - Snake I | Nokia 6110. Most popular game ever, embedded in 350 million devices worldwide.
1999 - Snake II | Nokia 7110s. The �rst phone with a WAP (wireless application protocol) browser.
2000 - Alien Fish Exchange by NTL Interactive. Pet simulator that made �sh breeding fun.
2001 - Lifestyler by Piconfun. A Tamagotchi-style life simulator mobile game, a predecessor of MMO (massively multiplayer online) games.
2002 - Space Invaders. Born as arcade game but adapted perfectly to mobile, thanks to its simplicity and monochromatic layout, it could �t into memory limit required by Java games.
2003 - N-Gage. A mobile phone and handheld game system all in one launched by Nokia.
2004 - The Fast & the Furious; It had 7 sequels, which have sold over 10 million copies.
2005 - Tower Bloxx by Digital Chocolate. The year in which 3D became the mass market proposition, this game with one-thumb gameplay, had a signi�cant success.
2007 - iPhone. iPhone revolutionized the mobile gaming with its gaming friendly interface and the launch of App store.
2008 - The App store created the global mass market of casual gamers.
2009 - Angry Birds by Rovio Entertainment. One of the biggest successes in the mobile app games history, with nearly 2 billion downloads and 263 million active monthly users.
2011 - Xperia Play. It was a handheld game console smartphone optimised for PlayStation mobile games.
2012 - Ingress. For Android devices. Near-real time augmented reality massively multiplayer mobile game created by Niantic Labs, a start up within Google, with 500.000 players globally.
