Justice Matters is narrowing focus on solutions to
childhood trauma, the incarceration of the mentally
ill, and the lack of affordable housing in Lawrence.
All Justice Network Members are encouraged to
attend the Solutions Briefing on April 14, 2015 at
Free Methodist Church at 6:45 pm to understand
our findings and prepare for the Nehemiah Assem-
bly on May 7, 2015. May justice roll down.

The Strangest Prayer Lenten Worship Series
March 1—March 29
We pray the prayer together every
Sunday. Many of us know the
words by heart. Yet, the prayer
taught to us by Christ is anything
but domesticated or tame. John
Dominic Crossan calls the Lord’s
Prayer “the strangest prayer” and
names it as a revolutionary and
radical set of words, in Jesus’ context as well as ours. This
Lenten season, a time set aside for prayer and preparation
for the celebration of Easter, let us re-examine these words
and discover together their radical call upon our hearts and
lives:
March 29: “Save us from the time of trial...”
Easter: April 5: “For yours is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. Amen!”

Temporary Sunday Morning
Schedule for Construction
and Summer months:
April 12 until
Promotion Sunday in August
9:30 a.m. Combined Worship in RWR
11:00 a.m. Sunday School for all ages
The Spiritual Leadership Team and Ministries have
been discerning together over several weeks an optimal
schedule during our construction and temporary move
into the Roger Williams Room for worship. We con-
sidered the following factors in our decision:
• The difficulty holding the smaller 8:30 service in
the overwhelming space of the Roger Williams
Room.
• The inequity of “combining” both services by
simply cancelling the first service and expecting
only 8:30 worshippers to change.
• The opportunity to consider flexible and creative
Sunday school options, youth group time, and a
“fellowship hour” between worship and Sunday
school.
Vacation Bible School is coming!
• June 8-12, 2015. VBS daily suppers begin at 5:15
p.m. (6/8 and 6/11 meal provided by First Baptist
members.) Program time 6:00-8:00 p.m.
• You can register now through our church website or
go directly to www.cokesburyvbs.com/lawrencevbs

Building Reconstruction Update:
Further construction has been waiting on two sepa-
rate issues. The first is the delivery process for the
flooring. Kring’s Flooring is ready to work, but is
waiting on the materials to be delivered. They hope
to see that delivery any day. Once it arrives, our plan
is to work around church activities (including Family
Promise April 12-19) in order to continue program-
ming as seamlessly as possible.
Secondly, we had not yet received the permit from
the city for our work. But that has become available
this week, and so now we are set to continue on our
schedule as follows:
As soon as materials arrive flooring installed in Youth room,
Sunday School and additional rooms, hallway, and proba-
bly kitchen (this is the most tenuous space, given the spe-
cial process for flooring.)
April 5: Celebrate Easter in our current sanctuary.
April 6 through Memorial Day: renovation in sanctuary area,
including narthex and Judson room. (Temporary sanctu-
ary will be set-up in Roger Williams Room. Stay tuned
for details concerning a “chair prep” party to move sanc-
tuary chairs into the RWR.)
By Vacation Bible School (June 8), we will be ready to wor-
ship in our “new” space!
June 14: celebration of completion of the construction,
and celebration of 160 years of ministry and worship of
the First Baptist Church of Lawrence!

Youth
