Last Thursday's Nehemiah Assembly was a
great moment for our city. Thanks to 1,726
people acting as one, we were able to take con-
crete steps toward a healthier and more just
city. Together, we set the stage for:
♦ A comprehensive mental health plan for
Lawrence led by key officials/stakeholders.
♦ Training for every police officer in the city
to better handle mental health encounters.
♦ Fewer people ending up in jail only because
of mental illness
♦ Stabilization for people in mental health
crisis
♦ Housing for people in major transition
(women fleeing domestic violence, children
aging out of foster care, people in recovery
from addiction, etc.)
But we still have some work to do:
City Commissioner Meeting - Tuesday May 19
at 5:45 pm, City Hall. We will present the post-
cards we collected Thursday night, show the
housing video to the full City Commission, and
request their participation in the Tenants to
Home Owners Housing Conference in July.
We hope 150 people will come to show sup-
port for affordable housing.

The Color of Paradise (Or Literally, “The Color of God”)
1999, Drama, Rated PG, Farsi Language
Directed by Majid Majidi An Iranian film about a blind boy who sees better than his bitter, sighted father. A won-der of breathtaking cinematography, and a Muslim meditation that Christians can and absolutely should take to heart.
