MCHIP Objectives

Objective 1- Improve health care providers’ knowledge and skills in integrated malaria prevention and control based on current policy, guidelines, and training materials.

Objective 2- Improve regional and district level supervisors capacity to provide integrated malaria supervision to frontline providers.

Objective 3- Develop and disseminate appropriate communication materials to improve knowledge, attitudes, and practices of two key target groups, health service providers and health facility clients, through the use of job aids and culturally appropriate posters and related materials. Objective 4- Strengthen pre-service education; specifically, updating malaria training content and teaching methods in national nursing and/or midwifery schools.

National Malaria Control Program (NMCP)

The goal of the strategic plan is to reduce morbidity by 75% compared to 2000 and mortality to a level close to zero.1 To achieve this the following objectives have been set.

By the end of 2015, 100% of suspected malaria cases will be tested for and treated at a health facility.

By the end of 2015, 100% of pregnant women and children under 5 will receive IPT.

By the end of 2015, 100% of the population will sleep under LLINs.

By the end of 2015, 100% of the population in 4 regions will benefit from IRS.

By the end of 2015, 100% of breeding sites in the Centre and Hauts-Bassins regions will be covered by anti-larvals.

By 2015, all commodoties (RDTs, treatment medication, IPTp (SP), bednets, etc) will be available at the village level.

By the end of 2015, 80% of the populations will practice behaviors favorable to fighting malaria.

By the end of 2015, 100% of health disctricts will produce qualitity data related to malaria in all public, privite, and communitiy level facilities.

By the end of 2015, the capacity of PNLP in the management and coodination of all anti-malaria activities, interventions, and partners will be reinforced.

PC-BF has made malaria prevention and treatment a priority by incorporating it into its “High Five” activities that every volunteer does.

The PC-BF CHAT (Community Health & AIDS Task force) committee has also been very active in marketing malaria activities to all PCVs.

1 bar of hard soap (cut into small melt-able pieces)

200 cfa of buerre de karité (about 1 liter when melted)
