Operation Support System

An operational support system (OSS) is a set of programs that help a communications service provider monitor, control, analyze and manage a telephone or computer network.

They are divided in 3 parts:

Transaction processing systems: A transaction processing system is a type of information system which collect, store, modify, and retrieve the transactions of an organization.

Process control systems: A process-control system monitors a manufacturing environment and electronically controls the process or manufacturing flow based on limits set by the user.

Enterprise collaboration systems: An Enterprise Control System support team, workgroup and enterprise communications and collaboration.

Management Support System

When information system applications focus on providing information and support for effective decision making by managers, they are called management support system.

They are divided in 3 parts:

Management Information System: MIS provide information in the form of reports and displays to managers and many business professionals.
