An operational support system (OSS) is a set of programs that help a communications service provider monitor, control, analyze and manage a telephone or computer network.

They are divided in 3 parts:

Transaction processing systems: A transaction processing system is a type of information system which collect, store, modify, and retrieve the transactions of an organization.
