Top Ten Findings of 2014

IR‐4 Project

Top Ten Great Things FRDs Do

Martin Beran Western Region QA Coordinator

IR‐4 Project

Number   10• Test Substance Container Labels

• FRDs attaching little identifier stickers on to the bottle

• Great to see supplemental labels listing elements above and beyond GLP requirements

Number   9• Email Correspondence

• Emails already in Part 3 at time of Critical Phase

• It lets us know what the issues are when we arrive  (crop vigor, test substance receipt, or differentiation)

• Initial and date them at time of printing

Number   8• Sufficient Time to Check Calculations

• Giving QA ample time to confirm the application calculations for test substance, carrier, and adjuvant amounts

• We can point out specific errors prior to the application.  Prevent over or under applications

Number   7• Application and Sampling Description

• Event descriptions are for the most part recorded in the Databook before QA leaves

• This allows us to confirm if the documentation reflects what we just saw in the field

• Try to write out the application or                         sampling procedure while its fresh                                in your head

Number   6• Requests for Training

• Recognize that new technicians or incoming FRDs    need training in GLPs and documentation

• Allows us time, as QA, to to put together an introduction to GLPs and the Databook tailored for your site

• A synopsis of GLPs is a good idea                                before a more extensive multi‐day                            course

Number   5• Taking On Unusual Applications

• Accepting a trial with a difficult application type can be a challenge

• Trying something new can only benefit you as well as the Program

• It can be challenging documenting                                new application procedures, but audits                           show FRDs are quite skilled at this

Number   4• Warning QA About Upcoming Field Events

• Thanks for keeping QA in the loop about changes in application or harvest dates

• Any revisions to your schedule for your targeted trials helps us schedule the 60‐70 field visits

• 2015 Target trials application date                                      requests will arrive mid‐March

Number   3• SOPs revised with current practice procedures

• Not only are the SOPs immediately available, but show recent revisions that fine tune a lacking procedure

• It’s nice to see an SOP revised after QA comments made during the inspections the previous year

Number   2• Assigned FRDs taking ownership of a trial

• Designated FRDs doing the bulk of the application, either applying, calculating tank mixes, and/or documenting

• This demonstrates that FRDs at the same                        site are really differentiating the studies                         that they share

Numero Uno• The whole initial and date thing.

• Cross‐Outs

• Late Entries

• Adding Missing Information

• Indicating Who Wrote What

Everyone getting here?

SOPs…. Incorporate Adjuvant Advisory

RS

SOPs…. Incorporate Adjuvant Advisory

RS

Keep in Mind:

1) If there’s any question about an adjuvant, pass it on to the farm (especially double dipping)

2) From 2015 on out you’ll need to provide temperature records for the life of the adjuvant, i.e. maybe one page/year?

Test Substance Expiration Dates

• Double Check ‘Em

• Make sure expiration date is well after your last application

• If not, contact the Study Director

QA Targeted Trials• Letting QA (Martin and Sherita) know when you

have early trials starting• Timely communication

– 7 P’s– Cheaper flights

• We’re all on the same team • Same pot of money

• Ignoring or “forgetting” this requirement
