My dear People,
Summer is a lean period in churches around the
world because people go on a vacation. While some
people leave town, others come to town. So there
should be about the same number of people
attending (give or take 10 persons). But that isnt
what happens. There is a significant drop in the
attendance affecting the functioning of the church.
What this means is that those who go to other
places (for business or pleasure) tend not to make a
serious effort to attend church. They feel that
they can take a holiday from church when away
from their own circle of family and friends.
Our Lord wasnt like that. He attended corporate
worship in synagogues as was his custom (Lk.
4:16). Mind you He was the one person who could
have entered the excuse that the synagogues were
just full of hypocrites. But He didnt. Because in
the end, corporate worship is about acknowledging
God publicly. Personal/private worship is essential.
But so is public. It is the way we declare that we
are not ashamed of Godto be seen acknowledging
that God has ownership of our lives.
The next time you go to some other city or village,
be sure to join the local fellowship of Christians.
Also, the next time you have people visiting in your
home, tell them that on Sundays, you go to church
and would like them to join you in your church.
Remember that taking a holiday from church is
taking a holiday from God. You endanger yourself
because you are removing the hand of God from
yourself,
Love,
Kuru
