CHARITY
We're about half way through our 50th Anniversary year, and we've had some memorable events to celebrate our Corvette ownership. As the year progresses take advantage of what your Vette Set membership offers you and participate with your friends in more Corvette activities. We have two more runs planned: A trip up to Oregon in September and one to the Albuquerque Balloon Festival in October, both planned by experienced Vette Set members that always provide well-planned and fun excursions. These events are in addition to the usual local day trips that your inventive members organize. These opportunities to enjoy your Corvette with other owners is why you joined, right? So I encourage you to take the time to take advantage of the fun that's available. Look around. We're not getting any younger!
On another note, I now have more information on the Anniversary shirt order, and will be sending you the data soon by email. If you're interested, watch for it, as we will be ordering a group order soon.

Museum Gifted Two Corvettes
After being diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer last December, Bill Engel needed to find a suitable home for two of his Corvettes. Like most Corvette owners, he didn't want to sell his cars, and he didn't want anything changed on the 1967. "I had been a member of the Museum for awhile and had been reading articles in the magazine about recent car donations," Bill said. "Donating my 1967 and 1987 was a good way to ensure the cars would be cared for."
Last Chance for Club Banners
This is the last chance for clubs to secure a spot for their banner in the NCM parking lot for 2015 – 2016. Final banner orders will be accepted through Friday, July 10.
The banners are available for a $500 donation. Clubs can submit their own artwork, or they can lay out the banner for you. When your banner comes down after 1-year you get to keep it!
Check out all the details on the Museum website, and to reserve a spot please fill out the form from the Museum and submit with payment (check or credit card).

This year our club decided to donate proceeds from the car show to the Automotive Department of the Southern California Regional Occupational Center (SCROC). This money was to be used for scholarships and any extra monies were to be used to purchase supplies, tools, new equipment, etc. President Jerry Clement and Laison Bonniegay Bacon gave SCROC Superintendent Laurie St. Gean our check from the car show. This year there were three scholarship recipients.

HISTORICAL
REPORT This year was the 33rd anniversary of the Bash. Vette Set members attending were: Linda & John Tully, Bobbie &Tom Beuthin, Santiago Sanchez, and Sharon & Pat Cowley. The event had the following activities:
Friday – car show, volleyball competition, dinner, Corvette trivia challenge; Saturday – low speed autocross, funkana, Corvette caravan around the lake, dinner; Sunday – poker rally run.
On Friday, we went to a spaghetti dinner in the patio area of the Robinhood Resort. After dinner, John & Pat participated in the Corvette trivia challenge. John did all of the heavy lifting and managed to get a team score tied for 2nd place. [Note: A far better team would have been Tom & John, who would have “ham and egged” it with Tom’s knowledge of the early model years and John’s expertise in the later years.]
Early Saturday morning, was the start of the low speed autocross at the Snow
2015 BIG BEAR BASH JUNE 26-28, 2015
Valley Mountain Resort parking lot in Running Springs. The Big Bear airport, the intended site for the autocross, was being used by aircraft to fight the Big Bear forest fire. Santiago won his division.
After the autocross, the funkana started in the Big Bear Elk’s Club parking lot. This event consisted of a two person team getting in and out of their car and running to accomplish tasks as they progressed through the course. Linda and Pat, both in need of knee surgery, opted out and formed the Sharon & John team. The other Vette Set team participating in this event was Bobbie & Tom.

Neither Vette Set team won. After this event John and Linda invited us to visit their place at Big Bear Lake where they spend half of their time during the summer.

Linda gave us directions: “Drive around the lake and you’ll find a fabulous mobile home park with a large waterfall at the entrance. Well that’s not it. Just keep driving and you’ll find our park with our old mobile home.”
From her description, I was expecting to see Jim Rockford’s trailer with his gold Pontiac Firebird parked out in front. The reality, was that the home is very nice, quite new and came with a covered patio, golf cart, dock and fishing boat. Also, there was a red Corvette parked in front.
Linda told us that the lake was having a “half-off” sale that weekend so bargain hunters Santiago, Sharon and Pat went out for a spin around the lake.

Saturday evening we had dinner at the Robinhood Resort and again the dinner was very good. Awards were given out afterwards and Santiago received his plaque for winning his division. Sharon and Linda met ‘Elvis’. He told them a few weeks ago he was much thinner and had to put on extra pounds to be in character for his “Older Elvis” impersonation.
This was a fun event and could be a nice outing for our club next year. We enjoyed the change in scenery, the food was good and all of the members from Corvettes West were fun and friendly.
BIG BEAR FLASH BACK In 1989, Sharon, Patrick and I went spring skiing at Snow Valley. The sunny day turned into a snow storm so we decided to head down the hill for home. In the parking lot (the location of the 2015 Big Bear Bash Autocross), the accel- erator cable broke so we had to wait until Monday to get if fixed. We rented the last room in Running Springs at the Sher- wood Arms Motel.
On the way back from the Big Bear Bash, we stopped to check out the motel. Twenty-six years later, the motel now has a no-parking zone in front of the rooms and it looks like all of the pines close to the building were removed.
On this trip, we also took a red car with a black top but his time, there were no mechanical problems.

On Sunday there was a poker rally run. After putting on a similar event with their annual Sweetheart Rally, the Tullys were finally able to participate in a rally. Their numer-ical score? They tied for 1st place.
