?why uganda

Uganda is one of the poorest nations

in the world, with 37.7 percent of the

population living on less than $1.25 a day.

Eastern Uganda rank significantly lower as

some people live on less than 50 cents

per day.

Technology related careers such as graphic designers, web

designers/developers and IT professionals are among some

of the most highly employed, and sought after professionals

in every industry around the world. We live in a digital age

where nearly every corporation rely on technology to carry

out day to day operations and to be connected to the

world. The future of Uganda’s economy is undoubtedly

rooted in job seekers and entrepreneurs being equipped to

compete in this modern marketplace. That is what we are

hoping our work will accomplish.

gettingstarted

Through iheartgo’s 4BasicNeeds 2013 campaign, we are working to raise a minimum of $70,000 for the establishment of a sustainable multimedia training and service center in Jinja, Uganda. By hosting a small fundraiser, you will play a significant role in the vision of this center. We have outlined five easy steps to help guide you through this process.

Come up with an idea--whether it be donating your birthday by asking friends and family to gift the cash value of a present for you to this project, hosting a house concert, or running a marathon. Just be sure it’s something the people you know will enjoy.

two

After you have solidified your idea into a scheduled event, share the event info with us, such as date, time, and venue; then we will send you our fundraising kit to help promote your event. Send an email to hello@iheartgo.org to request a kit.

Set up a fundraising page online. This is where everyone will make direct donation(s) in support of the project, and get connected to the entire community of people helping to raise funds for it. To do this now, visit: http://fundraise.he.commanded.us/signup

Promote the event. Refer people to our website to learn more about the cause, and utilize the info in your kit. You may print the flyer included in the kit, fill in the event info, and hang copies in areas of high foot traffic (where you have permission, of course), as well as personally pass it on to friends and family.

Needless to say, this is where the rubber meets the road. This is the day of the event, and guess what? The hard part is done: you already did all the work, so now all you need to do is seal the deal by being the awesome host you were meant to be.

How much should I raise? While there is no specific goal amount to be reached, we are asking that you aim to raise at least $250; if 280 people host small fundraisers generating $250 each, we will achieve our campaign goal. This amount can come from a variety of sources, such as your event, and online campaigning via social networks, etc.

Can I raise more than $250?Absolutely. In fact, we actually recommend that you aim high; the greater the expectations, the greater the potential for results.

donationamounts

OnlineThe fastest and most secure way to collect donations is by using your online fundraising page. Donations given through your page are not only instantly added to the total amount of all the fundraising efforts, but are also added to your personal fundraising total.

OfflineIncluded in your kit are 20 donation/pledge forms and a 8.5” x 11” form template that you can photocopy, and then cut in half, should you need more. Every offline donor is required to fill one out in order to receive their tax exemption. All checks, money orders, and donation/pledge forms should be mailed to iheartgo, 530 E High St, Philadelphia, PA 19144. Please avoid mailing cash by converting cash donations it into a money order.

Can I get reimbursed for expenses incurred from fundraising?Yes, we can reimburse you up to $5 for printing/copying of promotional if you choose. If you register your event, please send us the original receipt(s) for the items for which you’re requesting reimbursement (retain copies for yourself), and we will send a check out to you as soon as we receive them. PoliticsGuerrilla war and human rights abuses under Milton Obote from 1980 to 1985 claimed the lives of at least another 100,000 people. The rule under current president Lt. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who seized power in 1986, has brought relative stability and economic growth to Uganda.

EducationAt the 2002 census, Uganda had a literacy rate of 66.8% (76.8% male and 57.7% female). Although some primary education is compulsory under law, in many rural communities this is not observed as many families feel they cannot afford costs such as uniforms and equipment
